Youth Over Guns Profile Information

  • 68 year old Adelaido Bernabe Urias was shot down and robbed June 23rd in North Austin while he was at work. He later passed from his injuries July 2nd.
.
Respect our people. Protect street vendors. Stand in solidarity together. The recent violent epidemic against Mexican/Latino/a/x business owners must be stopped. These are our leaders, helpers, providers, and treasures within our communities. #AdelaidoUrias was a leader in his community and provided for his family for years. His loss is an immense and tragic loss for both his family and community. We must work to bring him justice.
.
Yesterday, his niece, Jennifer Baden’s, spoke at a press conference: ‘[My Tio] was always happy selling ice cream. He would walk all around the neighborhood - everybody knew him. He would always bring a positive vibe to our home. We’re always going to remember him as a happy man who always pushed hard to work and to accomplish something that he always wanted to do, which was [to] support his family in Mexico and that’s what he came here to the U.S to do and that was to support his family in Mexico. - Me and my family want justice for him.” Repost from @brownissues @msladyjustice1

  • During our holiday celebration 15 days after Juneteenth, we are saddened to report the tragic loss of five children. These children, ranging from 6 to 14, were all tragically murdered while enjoying activities we do everyday: being with a parent, walking in the mall, visiting family, and playing in the yard. Their names were Secoriea Turner, age 8; Royta De’Marco Giles, age 8, Natalia Wallace, age 7; Davon Mcneal, age 11. The other children have yet to be identified. They did not deserve this. Our hearts go out to their loved ones. Our youth must be protected. We must come together and end this senseless violence.

  • @_bri_chandler_ : ” I stand in solidarity with marginalized Black and Brown people in the U.S. and abroad. Read that again *Black and Brown.* And before you ask: NO we cannot engage in “civil discourse” about basic human rights and oppression. The internet is too big, wide, and comprehensive for people to use Black, Brown, and otherwise marginalized people as Google.”

  • @freckledwhileblack: As we move away from “Pride month” and towards not-everyone’s-Independence Day, let’s honor the courage and tenacity of those who came before us, by taking action today and every day. Whether it’s marching, making calls to elected leaders, donating money or time, sharing social media posts, having conversations that educate others — and educating yourself — every single action makes a difference.

  • @nycmayor, if you cut the already limited counselors and don’t remove police from our schools there will be repercussions. -

By now you already know our demands. We won’t sit by and allow this to happen on our watch. We are demanding that you #defundnypd to cover these essential resources for #nyc youth. & we will not rest until you act on behalf of the people. Enough is enough. -
