  • I received a lot of inquiries for the 5 ear tattoo designs that I posted last night and I will finish responding to those emails today. I will only tattoo a design a single time, so I decided to draw up some more to choose from ✨
Please email if you’re interested, no DMs πŸ˜‰

  • Disclaimer: I’m just here to challenge ideas, not to offend in any way. I will not be answering to any negativity in the comment section. I will update you all on tattoo things very soon but more important things need to be addressed.
Bigotry is a big problem. But overt, in-your-face aggression is probably not the biggest challenge we face. β€œSilent bigots” enable oppression by their inaction. They may not think of themselves as bigots at all, but silence makes you complicit. The difference is, the racist bigot will tell you to your face. Homophobia, racism, sexism, misogyny are institutionalized from an early age. The ones I don’t trust are the ones who are silent and pretend there β€œisn’t a problem.” Getting immediately shut out or ignored for challenging/trying to educate this kind of bigotry is something I have faced quite a lot recently.
They go along with stigmatization out of a desire to β€œget along” and out of the absurd notion that all human ideas are worthy of respect simply because they’re ideas. Ideas have consequences
Black lives are murdered at an alarming rate in the United States.

Race relations in America are generally bad.

Trump has made race relations worse.

Most Americans say it’s now more common for people to express racist or racially insensitive views.

Our country hasn’t gone far enough in giving blacks equal rights with whites.

Ideas matter.

Ideas about β€œthis isn’t my problem” or β€œI just want things back to normal” are ultimately responsible for untold amounts of human tragedy.
Yes, conservative racists are especially guilty. The extreme views of racism is obviously over the top and unacceptable to civilized people.
But quiet bigots do as much damage. People who insist that bigotry must be respected and tolerated do every bit as much harm as racist folks who overtly call for our stigmatization and push to legislate inequality. They enable bigotry by refusing to condemn it.

  • I am no longer working at the shop I was at for over 2 years. This decision was something that I had been thinking about for months as my partner and I have both received racist remarks as POC in the past. I considered my skin to be as thick as I needed it to be so that I could work effectively in the cut throat business of the tattoo industry. I swallowed the micro-aggressions of the derogatory comments as well as the passiveness of those I worked alongside who made it seem like it was not a big deal. These were red flags that I ignored but what I saw last week was the nail on the coffin. There is no right way to express how you feel about racist remarks but there is a wrong way and it’s staying silent. My purpose is to simply educate my non-Black/POC followers on the microaggressions I have seen lately in the tattoo industry and to inform you that I in no way am in accordance with what was posted by said shop last week.

This shop had posted that they were in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, to which a Black follower replied with β€œI’m glad you guys feel this way, a lot of us can’t tell by the overflow of white skin on your page.” The owner/manager (non-Tattooer) replied to this comment by stating that they choose to post β€œquality” tattoos, that it’s a β€œrational decision” and that sometimes the quality/rationality is not always the best option followed by an apology. The context in which this reply was made suggested that dark skin is not quality; the words chosen were offensive and should have been completely avoided and an apology would have been sufficient. This entire post has since then been deleted. It would be foolish to assume that this was simply just a poor choice of words. Microaggressions are a daily reminder that we live in a society that looks at Black folks as a subject rather than a human being. Studies have shown that microaggressions can significantly affect the mental health of Black/POC. I feel very much liberated from the weight I was carrying for months. I will be working exclusively @havenstudiobk in Bushwick. I will personally reach out by email to reschedule and if you have any questions feel free to email me.
