Amid a global pandemic, unprecedented unemployment, an epidemic of police violence against Black people, and a crisis of violence facing Black trans people, the Trump Administration is once again dangerously targeting trans people.
By allowing shelters to ignore trans people’s gender identity, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is intentionally putting trans people most impacted by homelessness, especially Black trans people and trans people of color, in danger.
With this announced rule, Trump Administration is seeking to expose trans people to violence and harm within shelters and deter homeless trans people from accessing shelter for fear of misgendering and violence. This is cruelty.
In the last two weeks alone, our communities have suffered the loss of six Black transgender women. Brayla Stone. Merci Mack. Shaki Peters. Draya McCarty. Tatiana Hall. Bree Black. We say their names.
In the past week, a Black trans man, Kristian Rouse, 18 years old, was assaulted and beaten severely. Two days after the murder of George Floyd, Tony McDade was assaulted by acquaintances, then killed by police after defending himself.
The state is intentionally placing Black trans people in harm’s way while simultaneously denying them access or rolling back protections to the systems and institutions that might help. This violence is not accidental. This is a direct result of state violence and it must end.

Since last week, six Black trans women have been found dead.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Repeat their names back aloud:
Brayla Stone. Little Rock, AR.
Merci Mack. Dallas, TX.
Shaki Peters, Amite City, LA.
Draya McCarty, Baton Rouge, LA.
Tatiana Hall, Philadelphia, PA.
Bree Black, Pompano Beach, FL.
Our hearts are hurting. Six human beings who had more to say, to live, to experience. Six people with their own individual families, people they called friends and lovers. Six people who may have thought about what they’d do tomorrow, if only tomorrow wasn’t taken from them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Black trans women and femmes are placed in harm’s way deliberately through abuse and neglect from the government and institutions of healthcare, housing, and employment. They are targeted by civilians, too. This violence is not accidental.

Brayla Stone. Merci Mack. Kristian Rouse.
We have you in our hearts today. We see your smiles remembering the joy you deserve.
As Kristian recovers after a month in intensive care, and Brayla and Merci are being mourned by their communities, we are outraged at the way Black trans life is taken routinely.
Please be gentle on yourselves in the next few days, family.
INVEST IN BLACK TRANS POWER. TODAY. Pictured is our friend and former team member @raquel_willis at the #BrooklynLiberation March for Black Trans Lives.
Share widely! Trans Lifeline’s Spanish extension is live today! When you call 877-565-8860, you'll be able to choose between English & Spanish before you're connected with a trans peer who speaks that language. #freethemall #asylumseeker #orgullotrans
¡Comparte ampliamente! ¡La extensión en español de Trans Lifeline está en vivo hoy! Cuando llame al 877-565-8860, podrá elegir entre inglés y español antes de conectarse con un compañero trans que hable ese idioma. #freethemall #asylumseeker #orgullotrans
Our country still renders incarcerated trans people living with HIV disposable. Stigma and discrimination is killing people living with HIV. Roxsana Hernandez was living with HIV when she died in detention. #StonewallIsNow
People’s March & Rally - Unite to Fight!
Sunday, June 28, 2020
11 AM - 3 PM
1800 Polk Street at Washington, San Francisco; Gather at 10:30
AM; March to Civic Center at 11 AM. We will begin at Polk and Washington Streets and end at SF Civic Center for the rally.
A call for action from Juanita MORE! and Alex U. Inn . All Black Lives Matter! On Sunday, June 28th, at the site of the very first Pride March, 50 years ago, we will roar our voices in solidarity with our Black, Brown, Indigenous Trans and Queer family, friends, lovers, and neighbors. We stand in protest of racial injustice, police violence, unjust healthcare, and inadequate unemployment relief. We demand changes! We will show up in droves to denounce and condemn police violence against our communities and raise awareness for the need to abolish and defund police departments, which will allow for funds to be reallocated to social services, mental healthcare providers, and social justice organizations. We will amplify our voices to advocate for healthcare and unemployment relief, as the current pandemic continues to bestow one hardship after another on our BIPOC Communities. People’s March will be led by an all-Black and Brown committee of Trans and Queer
activists, community leaders, artists, and performers.
Join us as we unite to fight for our civil rights! We will not be silenced!
PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE. People’s March Organizers ask for you to please be in compliance with our state law to wear a Mask and to remain physically distant by at least 6 feet. Masks will not be provided.
