  • Guilty AF with some of these, but it’s all about making adjustments. ⁣

These are some of the bigger mistakes that I see people (including myself) make with stories. ⁣
⁣
💥 Posting too many stories ⁣
Followers tap so fast through stories that if they get to your page and see 67 stories in the last 24h, they’re more likely to skip right through your page. ⁣
⁣
Fix: Focus on Quality over Quantity. Aim for 10-15 VALUABLE stories per day.⁣
⁣
💥 Not Making Stories Visually Appealing⁣
People’s attention spans are really short these days, and they have a tendency to just rapidly tap through long stories just waiting to see if something jumps off the page and makes them “stop the scroll”. ⁣
⁣
Fix: Think about this when creating your stories, attention is at a premium, make your stories interesting with Gifs, color, a little graphic design⁣
⁣
💥 Posting all your stories at once⁣
Posting on stories is great, but posting 5 first thing in the morning and then not showing up the rest of the day will kill your reach and views. ⁣
⁣
Fix: plan and space out your stories through the day to connect with different parts of your audience.⁣
⁣
💥 Sharing tons of @ mentions⁣
You have to be careful not to overshare these, because even though they help the person who tagged you, sometimes they don’t bring value to the rest of your audience and you run the risk of being a ‘valueless’ storyteller. ⁣
⁣
Fix: pick up to 3 of the most valuable @mentions, share those and provide context to why it’s important for your audience to see it.⁣
⁣
💥 Not showing your face on camera (guilty AF)⁣
This is something that I’m calling myself out on, too. Direct To Camera (DTC) creates connection with the person on the other end, it’s more intimate, relatable, and authentic. Humans are attracted to seeing other humans and psychologically it builds a deeper connection. ⁣
⁣
Fix: join a challenge or pick a story buddy to hold you accountable and show up daily.⁣
⁣
Baby steps, friend. No one says that you have to go smash all of these and be a Story beast tomorrow, but perhaps you pick one of these and take action on it today.⁣

  • “Why I hate Instagram Reels”⁣

I’ve seen a few of these comments pop up recently, and while I understand change can be scary, especially for people who have built their following off of one type of content, I want to challenge you to look at it a different way. ⁣
⁣
Perhaps Reels is combining what’s clearly working with content and having more of an authentic and fun platform, instead of always seeing a highly manicured feed. ⁣
⁣
I’ve seen creators spend 5+ hours on a single post “just to make it perfect”… guilty of that myself in my early days.⁣
⁣
People are obsessing over design instead of delivering massive value. ⁣
⁣
Reels challenges your thinking to create something engaging in 15 seconds. ⁣

It pushes you to come up with some new ways to deliver your message. ⁣
⁣
It’s a breath of fresh air for some of your followers. ⁣
⁣
So again, I would challenge you to embrace the change. ⁣
⁣
You have the ability to guide which way Reels goes with what type of content you put on there. ⁣
⁣
Instead of “silly dances”, make them educational. ⁣
⁣

  • 30… 60… 90… days in and you got nothing.

Here’s why you’re failing. 

You’re not sticking to it long enough. 

“I’ve been posting for 30 days and no one likes my stuff.”
“Your strategy doesn’t work, it’s been 3 weeks and still nothing!”
“I’ve made 20 posts already, how come my engagement sucks?”

How can you expect to build a massive personal brand with a 30 day test? Patience, young grasshopper.

One of the things that I am always preaching, and it’s so true no matter what platform you’re trying to build, is that it’s about the LONG GAME.

Yes, you can scoop up 50k followers on TikTok like it’s Instagram in 2015, but if you built it on a trend or a growth hack, what good are those followers? 

When you build your personal brand over time through hard work, consistency, and show up daily, you’re telling your audience that you’re in it for the long haul. That you care. That you’re committed. And that’s what builds trust and reliability. 

They know when they come to you, you have a track record of success and that you won’t steer them wrong. 

But you go do you, and build your audience off of the latest growth hack on TikTok or by buying your engagement through shoutouts. I’ll be here building it one fan at a time, like a slow, fxcking tortoise (@garyvee).

Would you rather a massive following or a 1,000 true fans?

  • The 100k follower strategy that I used ⁣
⁣
1️⃣ Define your niche⁣
Your niche is your target audience. You need to be speaking to ONE type person (Ideal Client Avatar or ICA) if you want to grow a massive following on here. This means getting clear and consistent with your messaging and who you’re following, DMing, and networking with. ⁣
⁣
2️⃣ Crafting the perfect profile⁣
There are 6 parts to a perfect profile: Picture, Username, Name, Bio, Website, and Story Highlights. They all have to be consistent and speaking to that ONE client we mentioned earlier⁣
⁣
3️⃣ Your feed: aka your last 12 posts⁣
These posts have to be hyper valuable to your ICA. The idea here is that they’ll discover you on hashtags, in other people’s comments, through DM, or as a suggested follow and look at your profile, if it’s not relevant to them, they won’t follow. That’s why niching is super important. ⁣
⁣
4️⃣ Find 10 niche accounts who are crushing it⁣
These accounts who are crushing have TONS of followers who could be YOUR followers too if you provide enough value to them. Choose wisely⁣
⁣
5️⃣ Find 10 niche hashtags ⁣
Hashtags are still amazing and they are still effective for growing your following, you just have to get specific with them. That means no “ForYouPage” or “Marketing”, those are too broad. Get specific with them. ⁣
⁣
6️⃣ Engage daily with these 20⁣
Go to each one of the 10 accounts and 10 hashtags and leave a genuine comment, a like, a share, and aim for providing value to your community by sharing⁣
⁣
7️⃣ Repeat daily⁣
Do this for 30, 60, 90, 365 and adjust along the way. It’s the same strategy that I used to build this 100k following. ⁣
⁣

What they don’t see is the multiple FAILED attempts back in 2016, 2017, and 2018. I tried every trick, growth hack, automation, bot, you name it, and they all failed miserably. No shame to admit it.⁣

I Thought that’s how people grew massive followings. ⁣
⁣
But in 2019, my perspective shifted. ⁣
⁣
I looked at this as a long game, and actually started giving a poop about people and building a community. I started showing up, even when I didn’t want to. and what did I start noticing?⁣
⁣
✅ The relationships got better. ⁣
✅ The audience got tighter.⁣
✅ The dopamine started flowing. ⁣
⁣
We want things fast. ⁣
⁣
We crave that instant gratification of likes, and comments, and engagement. ⁣
⁣
We wonder “How are they growing so fast?” and “maybe this isn’t for me?”⁣
⁣
Get that out of your head and try this: Put your head down for the first year, show up consistently and just keep creating and when you look back, you’ll be surprised at how far gone.

But whatever it is, you have to be willing to INVEST in your future and invest in personal development. Because I can guarantee you, you’re not gonna get there by binging on Netflix every night. ⁣
