  • This week, we're diving into all things beauty. We know that haircare, skincare, and beauty are no small parts of our lives; they're intrinsically woven into our wellness. RUNGRL's #MyRunningHair initiative addresses the fitness barrier that haircare represents and illuminates the need for increased representation of Black Women at the intersection of fitness and beauty. This week and beyond, we'll be sharing our unique challenges and considerations, personal stories, favorite products, and more so Black women feel seen in wellness. We’ll provide you with the information, tools, and products to continue to shape what beauty and wellness look like for YOU.

Dermatologist Elyse Love, MD (@elyselovemd) understands the unique challenges of caring for Black skin.

When it comes to running, here’s 3 of Dr. Love’s skincare tips for active women:

🚿 SHOWER IMMEDIATELY AFTER A RUN OR WORKOUT. Get the sweat off your skin ASAP.

🧴 USE SUN PROTECTION ON EVERY SINGLE RUN! While we are at less risk for skin cancer, we are more at risk for hyperpigmentation.

💄 MAKEUP WHILE RUNNING? POSSIBLY. If it works for you, it’s fine. If you’re fighting acne, you should likely go without it on your runs, since makeup can clog pores even more. Lipstick and mascara are fine if you choose!

  • It’s our first ever Beauty Week at RUNGRL! Active beauty, running and Black women are so beautifully intertwined. In 2018, we introduced out #MyRunningHair initiative to bring attention to how we can reduce hair as a barrier to fitness. By providing tips and resources for hair care and maintenance while running, we also celebrate and show the world why our hair is so beautiful. Beauty Week’s goal is to further celebrate and continue the conversation on how Black women, who disproportionately face health disparities, can get moving/running and still balance their beauty choices, unobstructed by the roadblocks we face daily.

So, beautiful RUNGRLs, we are starting off this week with #MyRunningHair. Have you found your go-to summer ‘do? Drop your stylish lewk in the comments below!
