Happy #olympicday2020 What an incredible honor it is to represent yourself and your country at this biggest stage we have. This was a moment seen by many. What wasn’t seen was the hard work and the countless “failures” that went into getting us there. The Olympics is the greatest celebration out there for us. Enjoy the journey, enjoy the times with friends and teammates. In the blink of an eye it’ll all be over.
I’ve been incredibly blessed to be a @taylormadegolf ambassador since 2005. My longest partnership. In my eyes the best brand in golf. And they’ve just gotten better. Not only are they bringing live golf back to TV tomorrow, they’re doing it to raise money for Covid relief efforts. If you’re so inclined please help contribute to this incredible cause.
Are you looking Outside or Inside of you for the answers?
This journey that I’ve been on has had so many highs and lows. The majority of it has been spent looking outside of me for the answers, in books, in other people, in events or experiences. The more I grow the more I understand that all the answers have and will always be inside of me. The incredible @petercroneofficial says “Live will present you with people and circumstances to reveal where you are not free”. It’s quotes like this and beginning to understand that things happen for us, not to us that is helping me get a better understanding of who I am and the things that are happening for me. I may not like what is happening in a specific minute, but can I sit and be ok with it. That’s freedom (Peter Crone)
The journey is far from over but now I believe this journey is pure potential. I am committed to what I want. Not what I don’t want.
I’m in the process of creating a mindset and swimming coaching program that I hope to launch soon. Stay tuned!!
We are living in an incredibly crazy time right now. Several countries and states are in complete lockdown. The Olympics has been postponed, major sporting events and music events have been cancelled or put on hold. To all the athletes out there from my experience it is difficult in the minute to understand exactly why things are happening to us. We are left asking questions, trying in this minute to figure everything out. This year I’ve come to understand that things happen for us. They show us where we need the most amount of growth. Can we sit with this right in this minute and can we be at peace with it?
Please remember a dream deferred is definitely not a dream denied. We will get the opportunity to compete again. We are so blessed as athletes that we do get to compete in sports. That we get to PLAY for a living and when we can again we will celebrate that and appreciate that more than ever before. This period can potentially highlight to us the things that are most important to us and when we do we can make the necessary changes (I’m not saying any of you need to change)
Sport is not a matter of life and death. This virus is a matter of life and death. This virus will disrupt routines, it will cause frustration, anger, fear, sadness and a whole gamut of other feelings and emotions. If you are unable or unwilling to invite all of these in to your life you are ultimately denying a part of who you are. Can we choose to believe that these circumstances are aligning for my/our benefit?
We are all in this together. If there’s anything I can do to help you during this time I will do my best with the tools I have. Much love to everyone of you out there. We will get through this.
With all the absolute craziness, hysteria and uncertainty going on in the world right now we are going to (and have already) seen some of the worst in ourselves and others, as well as the best. We don’t know how long this is going to be around, how bad it can/will be, who it will affect (ourselves/our family/our friends) and to what degree. What we can choose is the way we respond to this. We can choose to be more patient, more compassionate and more caring. We can choose to help those around us that may be in need. We have within us the capacity to make this as Bad or as Good as we want it to be. I am in no way discounting the virus, its spread or its effects. I am suggesting something entirely different. We are being forced to take a step back and to evaluate who we are, how we treat others and what is really important to us. Choose compassion, choose love. This gives us to opportunity to reconnect with ourselves and others. It gives us the opportunity to pick up a hobby, read, meditate, workout or even sit back, watch Netflix, movies etc. The choice is ours. I hope you all stay safe and that you have the opportunity to be around those you truly love and care about. Sending much love to all of you ❤️

A lot of people get the Olympic Rings to commemorate attending the games. I refused to get the rings after my first 4 Olympics. I saw 2000 as a failure. Expecting to win a medal, getting sick and missing the finals was devastating. I didn’t want anything on my body that would remind me of failure. It took a very long time to understand that the lessons, the growth, the memories, the friends and my family were more important than a bad memory of my first Olympics. Swimming in my life has been one of my biggest teachers. Now my Olympic Rings to me represent resilience, commitment, dedication, lessons, people who have been in my life and helped me in this journey and above all my growth as an athlete and a man. There are and will still be many lessons to come but I am thankful for all the opportunities to learn and to grow. Tattoo by @justingoreliktattoos 🙏🏼
The only way that we can live is if we grow. The only way we can grow is if we change. The only way we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we are exposed is if we throw ourselves into the open.” — C. Joybell
For some life tends to be far more exciting when things are uncertain. However uncertainty teaches us resilience, and resilience gives us the awareness we need to become our best selves. Far too often we shy away from uncertainty. It is an all too common theme in my life as well. Uncertainty is often difficult and uneasy, but it is here where the biggest growth happens. We can either fight it and deny it or we can attempt to accept it and see what it is trying to teach us.
“You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great” Zig Ziglar Greatness is a measure that is different to each and everyone of us. To some it may be an Olympic medal, to others it may be a beautiful home and family. For others greatness can be as simple as wanting to walk again (after an accident) If you haven’t started that journey to your “greatness” today is the perfect day to start. We are all on a journey of some kind and I’m grateful to be able to share as best I can with those of you who do want to listen. Many blessings and much love to all of you ❤️
