  • Photo by @justin_anantawan | People protested after Regis Korchinski-Parquet, an Afro-Indigenous woman, died during an encounter with Toronto police two days after George Floyd. I took a photo of a boy carried by his mothers friend at a march. Mom Winnie Joseph saw the photo online and wrote, “I believe It takes a village to raise a child. My elders always said: 1) Stand up for what you believe even if no one else will. 2) Dont be too prideful to ask for help. Having my son and realizing I need to raise him into a man, those words ring truer. We need support to fight injustice towards minorities and people of colour, specifically black and indigenous. Im scared of what my son and nephews will face. He is four, so I wasnt sure if he could handle it. Plus with the pandemic I was weary. But if I didnt go I would’ve regretted him missing out. He was a part of history, taking a stand with his mom, aunties and strangers. My little activist in the making.” #YourShotPhotographer

  • Photo by @doug_gimesy | A royal in waiting | A magnificent southern royal albatross sits patiently on its nest between tussock grasses on Campbell Island. On this one small island in New Zealand, 99 percent of the world’s total population of this albatross breed. While remarkably long-lived (one southern royal albatross is known to have reached 58 years of age), sadly, they are now listed as vulnerable. Threats include getting caught during longline fishing. #YourShotPhotographer #albatross #bird

  • Photo by Hani Nakib @nakibimages | It is now the holy month of Ramadan. People used to celebrate, perform prayers in holy places, and enjoy social and family ties, especially at the iftar table. We have to welcome Ramadan from homes, windows, and doorsills this year. We hope that this ordeal will disappear very soon. This is an Editor’s Pick chosen from #YourShotPhotographer. • Photo by @fdilekuyar | During this period Ive realized that having a family is so important. Being lonesome, waiting for someone who will not come, must be terrible. While thinking about this I remembered this old man I met during my travels in the Black Sea Region. Take care of your family. They are so important. #YourShotPhotographer

  • Photo by @tamarablazquezhaik | A common brown butterfly perches on a dry flower in Mexico City, where spring has arrived. Even with all thats been going on with the pandemic, and with it still being quite hot and dry, butterflies are fluttering through the city, reminding us of how beautiful and fragile life truly is. • Photo by @karimiliya | Nurse sharks rest beneath a dock in the Bahamas. When the fishermen return, they clean their catch and dispose of any parts they don’t want into the water. Despite being free to roam, these sharks have learned how to scavenge an easy meal from humans and no longer need to search for food in the wild. #YourShotPhotographer

  • Photo by @victorlimaphoto | The sunset in the Atacama Desert is usually one of the greatest moments of the day. It is quite common for clouds to form over the volcanoes of the Andes. The sun, which sets on the opposite side, tints the entire landscape with its warm tones, ranging from red to yellow. #YourShotPhotographer

  • Photo by @doug_gimesy | Home of the royals | Macquarie Island is the only place in the world where royal penguins breed. They have a highly synchronized breeding cycle, beginning when the males arrive in late September to claim nest sites and the females arrive in early October to lay their eggs about 30 days later. They hunt mainly for two species of krill. The rest of their diet is made up of juvenile lanternfish, but the proportions change throughout their breeding cycle. They are listed as near threatened, with the most likely long-term threat being the impact of climate change on food supply. Disease outbreaks also represent another potential threat, as do local oil spills. #YourShotPhotographer #penguin #royalpenguin
