Melissa Breen OLY Profile Information

  • I was always told, when it’s time you’ll know.
With every inch of my being – I know it’s time.

As I cross over I am filled with gratitude.
To have lived out my childhood dream,
to have travelled the world,
to have found love,
to have changed into the person I am today.
Who is ready and excited to just be Melissa Breen.

This journey has been filled with highs and lows,
and I’ve loved the pursuit – even in impossible times,
we found a way to succeed.

Now it’s time to let my body & mind recover & heal.
As @matt_beckenham & I prepare for the next chapter ♡

  • Want to know what it looks like when you qualify to represent Australia at your second Olympic Games? This was me in 2016, running 11.31 up in Townsville I was utterly overcome with emotions, this wasn’t just a four year journey this was a lifetime journey for my team and I. It meant the world to us.
I feel for athletes everywhere, although I fully support the @ausolympicteam decision today we must continue to support each other, athletes aiming for their first Olympic Games to those building to their final swansong. We must also support the team around each athlete - coaches, partners, family members, support staff, training squads, officials and volunteers. There is so much uncertainty but one thing we can ALL do is be kind to one another as we navigate through #covid_19
What is happening in the world is truly heartbreaking it’s time to put health first and look after those in our community.
Stay healthy and take care ♡ ♡

  • Athletes don’t just train for 4 years to become an Olympian, to represent their country on the biggest stage. Athletes dedicate their ENTIRE life for that moment.
It becomes the reason why they do what they do, day in day out for years, even decades for that moment.
For me this was it, in 2012 aged 21 I had dedicated my entire 21 years to this mission to represent the green and gold at #London2012
With so much uncertainty in the world right it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, disheartened and angry - we have no idea what is going to unfold, for those athletes who have dedicated every ounce of their being to this mission, keep backing yourself and your team, keep doing all you can, your moment will come when it’s meant to ♡
