Flashing back to the most out of breath I’ve ever been when I performed Boombox at the 2016 ARDY’s✨ this year, I get to host the ARDY’s Summer Playlist which is on Disney Channel tonight 🙌🙌 just because we are all safely in our own homes doesn’t mean we can’t sing and dance with each other 💃🏻🤓
In this episode of Life of Laura (LOL) I show you how I came up with the title and my very special Theme Song

Public health systems don’t exist in silos. Further, they are not always set up to easily report on disease data by race, gender or other demographics for vulnerable communities. This is a problem because without accurate data, we can’t see the full picture of what is happening and therefore can’t target prevention measures or respond as effectively.
We are experiencing this now with #COVID19 on multiple fronts. The data that is finally now available in the US shows there is a disproportionate impact from COVID-19 on Black people and other communities of color in terms of cases and deaths. During epidemics, and COVID-19 is no exception ,we also see a follow-on effect on other health and economic issues when systems get overwhelmed. An example is during the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, the virus indirectly led to increased cases of malaria, measles, as well as maternal & child health issues. The world needs health systems to be resilient — to reach everyone, to mitigate impacts of epidemics and become stronger in the short, medium, and long-term.
It’s a good lesson — when we strengthen a health system to fight one disease, we strengthen that system to fight all disease. And I’m optimistic that together the world can do the work needed to invest in systems that truly serve the most vulnerable.

Hi, I’m Dr. Erin Stuckey. I’m an epidemiologist, which means I analyze the cause and patterns of diseases in order to respond to and prevent future outbreaks. My focus is strengthening routine immunization to eradicate. And like polio, #COVID19 doesn’t respect boundaries and requires global coordination to defeat it.
Right now the Global Polio Eradication Program is using the systems and processes we’ve built for polio eradication to support the coordination of COVID response operations, finding suspected cases, training for healthcare workers, and standing up data systems around the world.
This pandemic has underscored the need to invest in health systems that can prepare and respond to both routine needs and epidemics when they occur, including in the most underserved populations.
Let’s demand we do so at @ONE. #PassTheMic #ONEWorld
Hiiii!!! Okay, so obviously, 2020 events have highlighted some of the world's worst inequities, which have been a point of focus in the movement for racial equality and in the fight against #COVID19 around the world. We HAVE TO continue to demand systemic solutions to all injustice, including within the global health sector. I have to be honest with you, I’m definitely not an expert in this field, and that’s why I am honored to #PassTheMic to Dr. Erin Stuckey, an epidemiologist at @gatesfoundation. Dr. Stuckey has worked with programs around the world on eradicating malaria and polio, and their focus now includes how health programs contribute to and adapt to the #COVID19 response. Dr. Stuckey is here to share what we should know and how we must respond to defeat COVID-19. It begins with demanding action at @ONE. #ONEWorld
In this 3rd episode of Life of Laura (LOL), I wrap up my conversations with activist Zyahana Bryant @zysaidso
Backlight’s my best friend today
It’s going to be a month since Breonna Taylor’s 27th birthday this Friday, so I wanted to bring this back. We NEED the men who killed her to be held accountable. So, today let’s tweet @govandybeshear @danieljaycameron @repjohnyarmuth @senatorrandpaul @senatemajldr to Arrest. The. Men. Who. Killed. Her. Let’s also make some calls tomorrow 💁🏻♀️
