  • From @badassboz ... as I drop the mic today after @kourtneykardash so graciously agreed to #ShareTheMicNow... I leave you with an action to take to be an active participant in changing our world.⁣
⁣
THE CHANGE BEGINS WITH YOU.⁣
⁣
We’re all searching for a larger platform to be on, or a larger mission to join, but perhaps the real solution is in the mirror every day. Are you truly the best version of yourself that you can be? Do you bring your WHOLE beautiful self to every space you occupy? Do you aspire to goals which will expand your greatness? If you do... I applaud you! And if you don’t, I implore you to do so! But regardless of which answer you gave, we can all do better, and we can all work on ourselves to be better. Our world would be better for it. Racism won’t exist if we see our own greatness and beauty reflected in “other” people. Perhaps if the police who murdered George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, or the racists who ran down and killed Ahmaud Aubrey had elevated their own consciousness to see value in their own lives, they would’ve appreciated the greatness in the Black people they took from this beautiful life... we can work to be better individuals— and therefore a better society— starting today.⁣
⁣
I’m doing this work every day in my badass way— regardless of where a I am— in my career, in my motherhood, in my friendships. Join me. Let’s work together to achieve our greatest potential. You can find me here on IG, or join the community I’m building to work, werk, wooooorque at www.thebadassworkshop.com⁣
⁣
My greatest thanks to Kourtney for opening up her heart and her platform to me; and my thanks to the 100 women who participated in this culture-shifting campaign today. Let’s #KeepSharingTheMic⁣

  • Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... so who do you see? In this time of racial unrest, we need to change the way we see Blackness: it’s value, it’s diversity, it’s depth, it’s history, it’s potential. Let’s open our eyes and see beyond the superficial biases that we have, and gain a deeper appreciation because #BlackLivesMatter

  • I call myself @badassboz, but my father named me Bozoma— after his mother. My name can be loosely translated to mean Spirit or Goddess; originating from the Nzema and Fanti people of Ghana, and I’m proudly 1st generation American. Although I have many titles and descriptions, being BLACK is an identity that I hold with reverence. My melanin skin which bounces off the sun and soaks in its rays fills me with joy... and sometimes can hurt with pain of carrying the weight of injustice that I face. I’ve walked through America’s largest corporate hallways and had a C-suite seat in its boardrooms, but although I sashay in my stilettos, I recognize that we are not all seen as equal. As we’ve seen the murders of Black people because of racism and police brutality, like Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and George Floyd, there are many other horrendous unseen acts committed every day. We must all be vigilant to ensure that the bias which goes unchecked, doesn’t become a static that we then hashtag. We must work together to HEAR those who cry out for the basic, human right to breathe and to matter.⁣⁣

  • As a mother, there is a natural instinct to protect my children from anything that might make them feel sad or unsafe. The pain and suffering inflicted by racism is not a thing of the past and I bare the responsibility to speak with my kids honestly and often about it, even when the truth is uncomfortable. I have to make sure they understand what it means to have white privilege and to take the time to learn and discuss Black History, beyond just one short month out of the year.

I encourage other mothers to join me in using this as a learning lesson for our children, to allow our children to feel comfortable enough to come talk to us about anything. Allow conversation without judgement, and learn from our children too. We don’t know it all. My children sometimes ask questions that I may not know the answers to, so we explore them together. I’ve felt like I’ve always been on the right side of this, but I have a lot to learn and want to educate myself even more, so that I can be a better mother, a better auntie to my nieces and nephews, a better friend, and a better person. For the rest of my note on Things I Teach My Children, go to poosh.com 🙏🏼

  • As the founder of @poosh, I think it’s important to make a pledge that lasts beyond today.
We pledge to continue the conversation when racism and inequity cease to be a trending topic. We pledge to do the work required, not just in this moment but in the future, to keep ourselves educated, to keep the doors open for safe and honest dialogue, even if it’s uncomfortable. And we pledge to share this information with you, our community. We are committed to highlighting black and minority owned businesses, their products, and their stories, as well as making a conscious effort to ensure our team of collaborators and our content and imagery always reflect the diversity of our community.
Poosh will also be making donations to the NAACP and the The Bail Project, two organizations that are committed to creating a more equal and just society for Black men, women, and children. God bless us and God help us.
