hi corporate america+,
in today’s script of consciousness we address performative actions within corporations. i am part of the D&I team at work and while i do think this is super important, i also believe there is a lot we can learn & change. this is a great starting point to just check in (because D&I groups are not perfect) they are learning, just like everyone else. let’s listen & learn to others and help elevate marginalized groups. ✊🏽
it’s important to point out things that may not be working in order to change it & make things that will work a priority!

good day fam,
in today’s lesson of self reflection and knowledge i bring to you @charcubed’s nifty “helpful rebuttals for racist talking points” slide. i know i keep saying that things are elementary, but every time i read something like this a lightbulb goes on. i hope that my fellow ally’s (& newcomers) will take something away from this. i’ve added this google spreadsheet to the top of my linktree in bio.

What to the Slave is the Fourth of July? Speech (July 5, 1852)
“Your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty, an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty & heartless; your denunciation of tyrants, brass fronted impudence; your shouts of liberty & equality, hollow mockery.
The blessings in which you, this day, rejoice, are not enjoyed in common. The rich inheritance of justice, liberty, prosperity and independence, bequeathed by your fathers, is shared by you, not by me.
The sunlight that brought light & healing to you, has brought stripes & death to me. This Fourth of July is yours, not mine. You may rejoice, I must mourn.”

a little #tbt for me. this is my indigenous grandmother and her twin sister. i keep this photo on my mantle and flipped it over this morning and noticed that she had written today’s date on the back, but from 2000. she passed a few years ago due to Alzheimer. she was one of the women who raised me. her family were farmers and mostly worked with their hands in Vieques, puerto rico. she later migrated up north, learned english and became a caretaker for her entire life. she took care of others until she couldn’t anymore & i could never understand her grace, patience, & determination. she was a rock & tough as nails.
i always had a strained relationship with my late father (slide two) but i am always very grateful for the people that got me here. my father always tried to fit in with his white counterparts. he was NOT proud of his heritage and never really owned his history. he just wanted to “not rock the boat.” honestly, he didn’t raise me and i always observed him from a far. when i did connect with him i could never understand how he could deny his past and not wear it as a badge of honor. if you notice from his pic, he is anything but white.
i guess my point here is, we can be raised a certain way, we can inherit certain characteristics, but we can also create our own paths. my mixed blood (from both sides) empower me to fight and to help lift up my people and other marginalized communities.
we all need to evolve as humans and not internalize our past, learn from it. sometimes we need to reprogram our own self-hate that we saw and we’re subconsciously taught from our parents/family. we can evolve.

the @allasianartsalliance is bringing in the educational tip this morning. please scroll through & share. we all need to learn how to reprogram our minds & educate ourselves on the racist history of these hurtful slangs.

today is the last day of #pride month & i would like to just remind us there is still no justice for #breonnataylor #elijahmcclain and many others. one marginalized community can’t be at peace if others are not allowed the same privilege.
please click the link in my bio and pick an action to get involved in/with.
start your own movement. engage in your community.
not just the one you are comfortable & accepted in.
pick a new community that may make you think harder, be uncomfortable, and challenge what you have already been programmed to believe. branch out people & demand justice!✌🏽
you all are special in your own way, now own that and move through this planet making a difference.

this doesn’t end with what you think it should.
this doesn’t end because you’re tired of what it would.
this doesn’t end because we’re beat and brown.
this doesn’t end because you’re feeling proud.
this doesn’t end because you’re sick of me.
this doesn’t end because we’re sick of the.
this doesn’t end today or morrow be.
this doesn’t end beside of me.
this doesn’t end until we all are one.
this doesn’t stop until we’re done.
wear a mask like dr. #mayaangelou says &
carry on along your way.
#saytheirnames & remember these stories. this is NOT a one time situation. this movement isn’t here for a week, a month, or even a year; it is a forever uprising. ⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️👏🏽
if you’re silent you are part of the problem. if you reject change and conversation, you are part of the problem. if you sit idly by and don’t put effort into changing your minds and making this world a better place with action, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM. nothing can be done if you sit on your hands. ⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️⚫️

diaries of a mad homorican!! ⚫️⚫️⚫️
the fight doesn’t stop because protests are dying down. the fight doesn’t stop because you turn your news channel off. the fight doesn’t stop because you chose to not read a story or scroll through this post. it’s time to remove ego and yes burn the system down. we have had a problem in this country for a long time, don’t tell marginalized people how to react and act. instead look within and hold yourselves accountable. today is a new day, how are you going to implement that change? #antiracisteducation is a good place to start. it’s not enough to say you’re not a racists. how are you living your life? i received so many unintentional micro-aggressions this week but no one stopped to think about that, because they were hurt by my tone. think about that. i have to tone down my message to make white people feel better about receiving it. wow!!
⚫️⚫️⚫️ link in my bio to learn and grow. ⚫️⚫️⚫️
this fight isn’t going to stop so i hope everyone starts to step up.

[edit to add: oh wanted to add that this can be for everyone. I usually write to myself and my community and caveat it but this info really can apply to all :)] A small gut check to realign our expectations. Everyone is doing such great work. I see u, I appreciate you. I wrote this for myself and also for anyone that may be feeling impatient and desperate for change.
I went to see Stacey Abrams speak last year, my activism journey in its infancy. I just knew things were wrong and I was going to do something about it without really knowing how or what. This led to doing a lot and feeling entitled to see change asap.
The thing that really checked my ego was listening to Stacey say that the work will not stop with her and that many, many activists before us had to be ok with not seeing things come to fruition.
They had to trust that they did their part as best as they could and have faith that people will carry the torch and continue.
If you’re feeling tired, perhaps slow down. Instead of thinking that you will have a large part in fixing things (ego), focus on how you can things up for the next activist, the next generation
