Free for who? Slavery continued for another 89 years after July 4th 1776. To say that it’s a day of Independence is a myth and in many ways a complete disregard for the lives of Black Americans.
#july4th is canceled.
Today and every we must raise our voices and demand justice for #breonnataylor and every Black person who’s been murdered at the hands of police.
#blacklivesmatter✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 #defundthepolice #breonnataylor #chargethecops @nyjusticeleague
None of this is new. Our ancestors been calling out this performative behavior.
We ain’t ask for street murals, diversity hires, renaming of racist brands, the Black national anthem for one week of the @nfl season, or any of the other performative shit y’all doing. That’s nice, but it ain’t shit if Black Lives still don’t matter in this country, if police officers continue to enjoy qualified immunity, if Black Women can be murdered in their homes while the officers responsible stay on the job, if the descendants of enslaved Africans still ain’t been given reparations, if our indigenous siblings aren’t respected and honored on their land, if Black trans lives are disregarded & Black trans women have a life expectancy of 35 years young. If @kaepernick7 still doesn’t have a job, if #georgefloyd’s murderers are already out on bail while Black boys from my hood have been in jail for years for possession of marijuana w/o having their day in court, if #tonymcdade still ain’t get no justice, if Black people continue to be vilified for simply existing, these “symbolic victories” really ain’t shit. We want justice and systemic change. We want to tear down institutions that don’t serve us and reimagine a Society that does. That’s all. If the murals don’t come with the change we’ve been fighting for, then you can keep ‘em.

I can write for hours about how blessed, honored and uplifted I feel this #Juneteenth, but the reality is that organizing is exhausting. I’ve now been up for over 24 hours & my feet are literally swollen. So imma head to bed and crash for the day. -
While many influencer type activist out here make it look glamorous, that ain’t the reality. This work is difficult and tiresome. Yet so beautiful at the same time. I’m inspired by my amazing peers @alliyahlogan @i.am.babou @thereal.liyahhb @mestizawomanist (all of which y’all should be following) & their commitment to this work. History will remember that young people once again led the movement. We just won’t let up until our people are truly free. Until Black People no longer have to fear for their lives. -
In short: watch this brief video of me addressing the crowd at tweed right before our march kickoff and go over to @ddlovato’s page to see my takeover ! —it’s heartfelt, and details my thoughts, call-to-actions, and resources that are necessary NOW— ✊🏽❤️ -

#NYC PULL UP!
Ramsey Orta is Now Free! -
#freeramseyorta until they said it backwards.
These are the wins we see when we organize with demands. This is PEOPLE POWER! -
Via @nyjusticeleague: We’re seeing progress on #TheTakeBack Demands with legislative wins in the New York! Today, the New York State Senate and Assembly have passed a bill to #Repeal50A, the law that conceals police misconduct from the public, as well as the Police STAT act which will require reporting on deaths in police custody as well as racial disparities in law enforcement. We’re now calling on @nygovcuomo to sign these bills into law immediately. -
The credit is due to the leadership of the families whose loved ones were murdered by the police, and years of grassroots organizing. Over the past two weeks, people have flooded the streets day after day, and flooded the phone lines with thousands of calls to our state representatives, and the Governor. Whether or not you were able to march with us on Saturday, all of these actions helped make the change we’re seeing today possible--and this gives us hope as we continue to push for further changes, together.
There’s work to do & we can’t stop until we see Justice NOW. Honored to have been invited by the @bet fam alongside @derricknaacp and Michael McDowell for this heartfelt news special remembering the lives of those murdered at the hands of police.
I said it then and I’ll say it again, we won’t let up until we see shifts in policy happen NOW. We need to see complete systems-wide change. We can no longer depend on charges or convictions in specific cases. We Need to enact policies to criminalize the violent behavior of these racist police and we need disrupt the whole system starting with Defunding Police across the country. My people: STAY IN THE STREETS. We are so close.
WE SHUT DOWN #NYC. THIS IS #THETAKEBACK !
Hear me leading the march chanting: #SAYHERNAME, #breonnataylor ! We cannot forget about our sisters murdered at the hands of police, and must collectively raise our voices to demand justice for them! -
So incredibly proud of my team @nyjusticeleague @gather4justice, @youthoverguns & all of our partners for pulling this off! When you operate with #lowegohighimpact — these are the results. LARGEST DEMONSTRATION IN NYC IN RESPONSE TO THE RECENT DEATH OF #GEORGEFLOYD, NO ARREST, ALL DEMONSTRATORS WERE SAFE, & WE ARE #1 TRENDING ON TWITTER. JUST A MATTER OF TIME WE SEE UNPRECEDENTED SHIFTS IN POLICY. -
FIRST: Text “The Take Back” to 97779 to learn more about our demands and take action. @nycmayor @nygovcuomo @nypdshea & @speakercoreyjohnson certainly heard us today. NOW LET’S FORCE THEM INTO ACTION.
