Happy Birthday, @candicepatton. Remember when they made you drive a car with thousands of dollars of equipment attached to it and around 4 fully grown adults squeezed into every nook and cranny? Also, a super friendly neighborhood lady yelled some profanities at us as we drove by? Me too. Good times.
Some of my favorite quotes from a great article from @playerstribune and @itsreneem on the shift in our country right now and Renee’s decision to sit out the WNBA season so she can put her focus on this moment and movement. But her words are better than me trying to recount them. Link in my story or on the @playerstribune page. “There’s no right answer for any of this. When people are trying to make change, you can go about it many different ways.” “People sometimes say you have to take a step back to take two steps forward. Maybe we have already taken our step back with the pandemic and with the killing of George Floyd, and now it’s time to propel ourselves forward — further than where we started.” “You can’t plan for this kind of MOVEMENT that’s happening right now. You can’t stage it. And you can’t ignore it.” “Let me tell you something: Juneteenth is just the beginning.
And we’re gonna keep it going, through November and on and on. There is no grand finale.” - @itsreneem
Later than originally planned, but this is now available to watch on @manenough.tv. Anxiety is something that will most likely be a life long battle for me, and I know I’m not alone there. Constantly living and learning. Loved getting to talk with @cedtheentertainer and my dude @justinbaldoni
This is what I’m currently reading and I’d definitely recommend. We all need to keep having these conversations, further educating ourselves and find ways to help create more equity and empathy in our daily lives and moreover, in this country.
Putting this in my story and a link in my bio. Was asked to participate in The Plague Nerdalogues and was super happy to be a part of it. This time around it’s benefiting Black Lives Matter. All you have to do is donate and you can check out all the monologues from some of your favorite genre films. #TheSecondWaveOfPlagueNerdalogues
**A STATEMENT FROM OUR LEADER AND SHOWRUNNER, ERIC WALLACE. — **
I don’t have much to add because Eric’s thoughts are stated so eloquently and powerfully.
I will say I was shocked, saddened and angry when I saw the tweets. Words matter.
Full video in my stories and highlighted BLM story thread. This is for all my white friends who are really trying to make big changes right now as far as there awareness and how they’re using their voices.
I’ve definitely been feeling guilt and shame coming up as I open my eyes a little wider and try to do this work. I’ve thought of myself as a good person, aware of what’s happening around me, and willing to listen to others(something I’ve been working on in general and need to continue to do). So how did I miss things that were happening around me that were oppressive or racist?? How was I so naive about my privlege and advantages in life? Why wasn’t I having these conversations already? If I’m really a good person?? I will be truly willing to listen and learn. To see beyond my own experience. To try to understand and empathize and help. And not unload my shit on others that don’t need that extra baggage.
We’re continuing to educate ourselves about racism and have conversations that we should’ve been having with much more frequency and empathy.
Link in bio on how to help and continue to once this isn’t “trending” anymore.
