  • “Why do we play with fire?
Why do we run our finger through the flame?
Why do we leave our hand on the stove
Although we know we're in for some pain?
Oh, why do we refuse to hang a light
When the streets are dangerous?
Why does it take an accident
Before the truth gets through to us?
Cages or wings
Which do you prefer?
Ask the birds
Fear or love, baby?
Don't say the answer
Actions speak louder than words
Why should we try to be our best
When we can just get by and still gain?
Why do we nod our heads
Although we know
The boss is wrong as rain?
Why should we blaze a trail
When the well worn path
Seems safe and so inviting?
How as we travel, can we
See the dismay
And keep from fighting?
Cages or wings?
Which do you prefer?
Ask the birds
Fear or love, baby?
Don't say the answer
Actions speak louder than words
What does it take
To wake up a generation?
How can you make someone
Take off and fly?
If we don't wake up
And shake up the nation
We'll eat the dust of the world
Wondering why, why
Why do we stay with lovers
Who we know, down deep
Just aren't right?
Why would we rather
Put ourselves through Hell
Than sleep alone at night?
Why do we follow leaders who never lead?
Why does it take catastrophe to start a revolution?
If we're so free, tell me why?
Someone tell me why
So many people bleed?
Cages or wings?
Which do you prefer?
Ask the birds
Fear or love, baby?
Don't say the answer
Actions speak louder than
Louder than, louder than
Louder than, louder than
Cages or wings?
Which do you prefer?
Ask the birds
Fear or love baby?
Don't say the answer
Actions speak louder
Louder than, louder than, ooh
They speak louder
Louder than, louder than, ooh
Actions speak louder than” -Jonathan Larson

  • When I was asked to be a part of this weekend’s #playbillpride stream benefitting @bcefa, I asked to see the line up. I wanted to make sure this stream was going to be representative of the LGBTQIA+ Broadway community that I know. @ruthiefierceberg called me and read the lineup over the phone and I broke down. I’ve been a part of so many of these events over the years and I’m almost always one of two MAYBE three “tokens.” I can’t be a part of another 2/3 white lineup. Not anymore. Ruthie read so many names of actors I know and love, a truly colorful and beautiful array of talent and heart. So many LGBTQIA+ performers that may never have been asked to join if it weren’t for the #blacklivesmatter movement and the work that organizations like @bwayadvocacycoalition have done these past few weeks; opening the eyes of human beings everywhere to racial injustice and systemic racism within our industry.

I am grateful to @playbill, @prideplays, @howdougseesit, @michaelurielikesit, and everyone else involved in mounting this weekend’s digital celebration of PRIDE. I hope you’ll tune in this Sunday at 8pm EST/5pm PST. The stream will air ONCE, so don’t miss out!

  • Growing up, they never taught us the importance of today. I know now. We all should know now. Today, let’s celebrate freedom by continuing to pour our energy into this movement. #juneteenth #blacklivesSTILLmatter

  • Happy Birthday, Breonna Taylor. She was an EMT, she would’ve turned 27 today, but the Louisville Metropolitan Police broke her door down two months ago and shot her 8 times. They had the wrong house. Those officers haven’t been charged and are currently still on administrative leave. The work is far from done. We’ve all heard her name, now take action. Swipe for a list of easy ways you can help or visit the link in my bio. #sayhername #birthdayforbreonna

  • In 2004, I was a recipient of the Osceola County Arts Alive scholarship. Since then, the scholarship program has grown exponentially, but in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, their funding has been cut drastically. We’re asking for YOUR help. If you’re able to donate, head over to the GoFundMe link in my bio. Your generous donation will help countless students, many of them artists of color, to realize their full potential and begin their professional journeys into the arts. It helped me, it’s helped so many others, and with YOUR help, it can continue to help Osceola County’s brightest young artists reach for the stars. #artsaliveosceola
