  • big wild weddings aren’t much of a thing this year.
.
and while my heart is sad for not being able to see my couples’ wedding guests dance to all the best wedding songs on a crowded dance floor, I am feeling pretty lucky to be working with some amazing couples this year who are planning small, intimate elopements while including all the elements of a wedding day that are special and unique to them.
.
save this post to refer back to while you plan your elopement! 📲🖤👉🏼
.
even though you may not have a crowded dance floor this year, you can still incorporate music and wild celebration into your elopement!
.
all you have to do is bring your phone, a portable speaker, your favorite playlist (and maybe a bottle or two of champagne!) and play those songs while you dance in the woods, the desert, in the middle of the city, or wherever you plan your elopement location to be.
.
you might not have all your guests around you dancing, but you’ll have one of the most important people there to dance with - your life partner.
.
and to me, that’s all that matters.
.
dancing with your life partner on the day you promise your lives together. now that sounds like an amazing day. 🖤✨

  • “but I’m not really a morning person.”
.
“trust me - it will be worth it.”
.
and it was soooo worth it.
.
while I’m not sure that was our exact dialogue when we were planning Melissa & Garrett’s engagement session last fall, it’s a conversation I have a lot of the time when I’m talking to couples about their engagement session or elopement timeline.
.
save this post for future reference! 👉🏼🖤📲
.
think about it: if you want that scenic mountain, desert, or forest location for your photos while having the privacy of not having a ton of people around watching you while getting your photos taken, planning your session during a time when *a lot* of people are in the same location (especially on the weekend), isn’t going to be the best bet for you.
.
that’s why I suggest having a sunrise session! 🌞✨
.
you beat the crowds (especially here in CO - people are *everywhere* y’all), you get to watch the sunrise while snuggling your partner for warmth, and you get to have the mountain, desert, or forest location allll to yourselves.
.
isn’t that ideal?
.
I sure think so. 🖤

  • What I love most about working with other creatives & photographers is the freedom to create fully. The freedom to feed off of each other’s unique creative energy and develop something totally unique and fun.
.
That’s what it was like working with Kevin and Yesenia last year. They had a couple of locations in mind for their session and together we brainstormed ideas to make their shoot unique to them, their love for each other, and how creative they are as a couple.
.
But that creativity isn’t exclusive to working with other artists or photographers! If you’ve booked me for your elopement or engagement session and have creative ideas you want incorporated into your shoot, let’s get talking and create the experience you’re dreaming of!
.
Want to include some long exposures with movement and blurriness? I’m all for it. Want to create some double exposures of you and your partner? Let’s do it. Want to incorporate unique or weird props into your photos? Yep, I’m down.
.
Your shoot should reflect *you* - who you are as a person, who you are as a couple, and allll the quirky, eccentric, and simple elements that make up who you are.
.
So, who’s ready to get creative?

  • Yes, I will wake up at 3 am for your sunrise elopement AND I will stay up late for your Milky Way couples session! ✨🌑🌙
.
Because, honestly, if it means a lot to you, it means a lot to me. I will always be your biggest fan and will make sure that your wedding day and engagement photo session is everything you dreamed of.
.
For Melissa & Bobby, the Milky Way was super important to them - they had never seen it with their naked eye and have always wanted to. Melissa has always been enthralled by the stars and sky it just made sense, then, to have their couples session at 10 pm on a Tuesday night under the new moon and the glory of the Milky Way.
.
So, if you’re envisioning a unique setting or time of day for your elopement or engagement photos, tell your photographer! They should always be on board with what means the most to you and how you want to celebrate your love. Because in the end, it’s not about us photographers - it’s about YOU, your love, and what makes YOU happy. 🖤🖤🖤

  • I received an email from Melissa at the end of May about her and Bobby’s plan to self-solemnize in Colorado and with my newly opened schedule due to this year’s wedding cancellations and postponements, I was happily able to schedule them in into my calendar on such short notice!
.
Throughout the planning process, Melissa & Bobby had ideas about locations they would love to elope at, but they still needed assistance with finding a beautiful, easy, and accessible location that would fit their elopement dreams.
.
I provided them with a list of over 10 locations I thought they would like, complete with details on permit and fee requirements. After they chose their location, I designed a personalized timeline for them, which ended in having breakfast (safely outside because, you know, the pandemic is still going on) at a cute little bakery!
.
All that to say, if you’re planning on eloping but don’t know where to start, I am here for all your planning assistance! 🖤
.
Need a location that suits your elopement dreams? Check ✔️. Need details on permit and fee requirements? Check ✔️. Need a timeline that includes all the things that mean the most to you and your partner? Check. ✔️ 🖤

  • I am coming back to social media after an amazing getaway with my partner and my parents while we spent a few days camping together next to the Arkansas River. 🖤🏕 It’s safe to say it was a very much-needed break but I’m happy to be back to talking about elopements and weddings with you all!
.
Speaking of elopements, next week I have my first one since COVID hit: a gorgeous sunrise elopement in the mountains *and* a Milky Way engagement session. 💫✨To say I’m excited would be an understatement!

  • PRO TIP 👇🏼✨
.
Having an adventurous elopement doesn’t have to occur on a mountain top or some other wild outdoor location.
.
It can occur at a place like this charming little self-sustaining Earthship just outside of Taos, New Mexico.
.
That’s exactly what Glynnis and Adam did for their November elopement and it remains one of my favorite wedding days to date!
.
Taos, New Mexico was special to Glynnis and Adam and even though they lived in Denver, they wanted to travel to the quaint village of Taos for their private elopement in a stunning little Earthship and share their vows with their dog, Mousse, at their side.
.
Because Glynnis and Adam didn’t have anyone else at their ceremony, they had the freedom to do *whatever* they wanted! So we took photos in the Earthship they rented, adventured out to one of their favorite little farm-to-table restaurants for photos, and ended the evening with a scenic view of the Sangre de Cristo mountains at sunset.
.
To say it was simply magical might be an understatement.
.
You, too, can have an amazing elopement day like this!
.
What would you do if you had total freedom for your elopement?

  • Would you break tradition for an intimate elopement?
.
I know breaking the tradition of having a big wedding can be scary. It can feel a bit strange to not have all the elements of a large, traditional wedding that you always thought you needed.
.
But, breaking tradition provides you with something I believe all couples should have: the freedom to design your wedding day in a way that truly reflects who you and your partner are!
.
You don’t need a wedding party if you don’t want one.
.
You don’t need a hundred guests if you would like your wedding day to be more intimate.
.
You don’t need to accommodate family’s expectations for YOUR wedding day.
.
Bigger isn’t always better. Smaller often means turning off the noise, ignoring opinions from family members, and listening to what your heart wants from your wedding day.
.
By breaking tradition, you get to have the flexibility and freedom to design your wedding day that means the most to YOU.
.
So, would you break tradition for an intimate elopement?
