Quickens my heart to see this photo and remember the thrill of being onstage. This was my last gig a week before lockdown: a secret surprise spot for my brother @nerm where I got to jam with the beautiful @sarathykorwar for the first time and danced up close and sweaty with so many mates in a dark pub. I had no idea how much I should have savoured the moment... #letthemusicplay

The last live gig I went to before lockdown happens to be one I threw. @shivasoundsystem’s Supersonic Buddha at @victoriadalston with a live line up that was just insane: @anoushkashankarofficial @shrutzhaasan @nikita_gill @sarathykorwar and @rizahmed with me, @thereju @officialdcode and @vin.dakoo playing some tunes too
Properly amazing (if I say so myself! 🤣) and just wouldn’t have been possible without small, badass music venues and everyone behind the scenes. Covid’s obviously messed up the industry that does a so much for the UK’s job market and the economy. It could do with some attention. Please post a pic from the last gig you went to and tag #letthemusicplay 👊🏾🖤 more info @_ukmusic
Hey! Reminder: You have less than two weeks to bid to win a PERSONALISED MUSIC VIDEO from me in aid of charity! :)
I’m standing in solidarity with @annielennox and @thecirclengo to support their emergency appeal. The Circle are working to support marginalised women with food and hygiene parcels, access to refuges, and counselling for survivors of violence. You can win a bespoke video from myself or many other amazing people by entering their Music Auction now. Good luck!
I forgot to include the photo about how I could barely reach my pedals! I only started using a pedal board in 2016 to be able to create the music of Land of Gold live. I needed to be able to loop and create reverbs, delays and distortion hands-free. This is why I started sitting with my feet down rather than in the traditional cross-legged position. HOWEVER, guitarists for example, are more mobile standing up. My desire to use pedals created some logistical issues as we had to always specify the height of my riser so my feet could reach the pedals whilst seated. At Glastonbury the riser was too tall! With no time to sound-check, my team helped raise the pedals but you can see they were still too short. I felt like a little girl dangling her legs and struggled to get any traction from which to power my playing, and got some serious yoga work stretching for my pedals! 😂 still an epic day though! 🙏🏽😎 photo by @photolauralewis
Remembering Glastonbury 2016. Rain. Mud. Exhilaration. My riser was too tall so I was en pointe on my toes the whole time barely able to reach my pedals! 😂 but it was so epic to play there. Living abroad for a while I’d sort of missed the boat on QUITE what an institution Glastonbury is. But when a host of friends wanted to travel to be there with me. When my whole team was more electrified than at any show I’d done with them. When visual artists wanted to travel from India for free to do my visuals for the fun of it. When we were there en masse. It was magic. Looking at these photos I’m filled with such love and gratitude for musicians, crew, team, friends and well-wishers, all taking part in those sublime moments of live music together. I miss this!!!!!! Photos by @photolauralewis #glastonburyfestival #anoushkashankar

Eighth Father’s Day without my Bapi. You’ve possibly seen photos of us on stage together, and I’ve shared photos of myself as a kid with him before. Today I feel like sharing these. I had my first son when my dad was ninety. He already had two grown up grandchildren, through my late half-brother Shubho Shankar. However, it was precious for me to experience making him a grandfather myself. The way he cried at my bedside in the hospital when he first saw us after the birth. The tenderness in him as he gazed at my baby. The way he’d keep randomly popping up to visit because he was hoping to hold him. And over the nearly two years before he passed away, how much utter joy and love I saw Zubin bring into his life. I felt so grateful to have played a part in that. And for all the facets in my relationship with my father, which was by turns fulfilling and complicated, full of inspirations but also absences, full of love but also pressure, I was always aware of how very much he gave me as a daughter and student. I knew I gave back as a student in our years performing together, but watching him with my son, I felt I got to give something back as a daughter.
Happy Father’s Day everyone 💙
Forgive me: I’m feeling momentarily nostalgic for the escapist days when Instagram was new and a place to duck my head for a few minutes of happy photos and inspirational quotes. After playing live for some of you last night I then got super wired and couldn’t sleep. (It’s not all candles and wafting sitar melodies! 😆) I hope all you beautiful light-warriors are out there fighting the good fight, connecting to your inner wisdom, speaking your truth, but also getting really silly and sticking your tongue out at your friends, plants, cats or kids. Levity=longevity 💗

I can’t formulate the words right now to express how I feel. I’m crying without the need to watch the footage of another black human dying at police hands. I can’t watch, but neither can I look away. What does it take for a policeman (to PROTECT and SERVE!) to willingly suffocate a man to death? What does it take to feel comfortable doing this in front of an audience of civilians protesting and filming it happen? How common must behaviour like this be to be so fucking easy? To what level do white policemen dehumanise black people for this to be happening again and again and again and fucking again? The world is broken. Utterly broken and I don’t know how to fix it. What do we do? How do we actually make things change so that innocent people aren’t casually murdered by the very people employed to protect them?

Eyes wide open
And I can see
Planted seeds growing
Traumas seen, growing
Family bonds growing
And I can see
Groundhog days, becoming
Halcyon days, becoming
Corona daze, becoming
Me, seeing you,
All these days
I see you happening
I see you growing
I see you becoming
And I love you, for all my days
