  • •WINE REGION WEDNESDAY• this week we are featuring Castellani Vineyards, located in Tuscany, Italy, encompassing five estates. For over 150 years, the Castellani family has believed that the “quality of the wine begins in the vineyard”, and have worked very hard to implement new research and technology into their grape-growing process. 🍇 the pinot grigio varietal we’ve featured here, is a mix of complex elegance, white floral and balanced citrus notes; pairing perfectly with shellfish, mushroom and lighter fare.

  • Not quite enough to make my own wine with yet, but the first bunch of grapes on the vine are fattening up. #growyourown #winevine

  • It's no secret that the world has been flipped on it's head at the moment and as a photographer, the rules and regulations have meant that what would normally be a super busy time for me is now earily quiet!
To fill some of that time I have been working at the awesome @tinwoodestatevineyard tending to their precious vines and supporting a local business.

Although this time is strange, it's given me the opportunity to meet some great people in a similar position from all walks of life and I'm already excited to kick back with a glass of the 2020 vintage and look back on this crazy time in a few years!

I'll keep the camera handy, so keep an eye out for updates as we move through the season! 🍇

  • Remember when you first tried wine and thought, “Woah this is not a box of juicy juice” ?

I do. As an altar server...in the fifth grade. And a few years later I went straight for the sweet Moscatos.

Vitis Vinifera is the Latin name for the European vine species which grows Pinots, Cabernets, etc. Vitis Lambrusca is native to North America and grows majority of the “table” grapes you purchase at the supermarket. Table grapes - like Concord grapes - are going to be plumper, because they retain more water and sugar.

Varietal or variety is the term used to describe the different types of grape (Pinot Grigio, Tempranillo, etc). There are an estimated 10,000 grape varieties out there. Ten thousand. But “only” 1,300 of those are used to make the wines we buy and sell. Thirteen hundred. THAT’S INSANE. It’s been 1276 days since my 21st birthday - even if I had the intention of trying a different one each day, I would still be 30 grapes short. And borderline crazy. And broke.

We often go for the grapes we feel comfortable with, but I challenge all of us to try a new one this month. Let me know what you think!
