  • This must be their daily briefing session 😅. A little late for the Elephant day but I'm sure these gentle giants are happy to forgive me for that.

The beauty of the wilderness in African savanahs is exactly landscapes such as these thriving with wildlife. Nothing to see for miles sometimes and then suddenly there is so much life.

A small family of elephants against an infinite grassland is definitely a sight for the eyes..

  • World Elephant Day 🐘
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Rather than rambling on about how much I love eles (because I’m sure you’re already well aware 🙊) I’m instead going to use #WorldElephantDay to talk about how important these gentle giants are in maintaining biodiversity and healthy ecosystems:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
— In the dry months, elephants use their tusks to dig for water which helps to provide for other species too.
— They clear land for new plants to grow and they create gaps in vegetation for smaller animals to use as pathways.
— Their 💩 is vital in dispersing seeds that aid vegetation regrowth. It also acts as fertilizer that promotes germination and growth in new areas too (creating more habitats) 🌱
— They provide shelter for smaller species; especially amphibians and insects.
— They are incredible at finding/uncovering salt licks that help other herbivores improve their mineral intake.
— It is said that the loss of elephants may affect the ability of forests to store carbon (due to elephants being key to the growth and survival of large trees) 🌳 ETC.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, elephants aren’t *just* big beautiful giants... They are a keystone species that is VITAL in preserving healthy, happy, balanced ecosystems. We must love them, protect them, and fight for them (and the people who live amongst them too) 🧡
