The very fashion brands who have claimed solidarity with black square posts and supportive slogans, are the same brands who have long exploited BIPOC, feigned inclusivity and have profited from cultural appropriation.⁣
⁣
The past practices have taught us that all they want is our cash and the people who made our clothes are paying the price, 80% of whom are female. [@labourbehindthelabel]⁣
⁣
Many of these brands are refusing to #PayUp for work that was completed pre-pandemic, which further reveals their allyship as performative.⁣
⁣
In the past, I have not spent enough time interrogating the wishy-washy, vague and blasé marketing of ‘sustainable’ fashion brands (eg @reformation) to ensure that they’re dismantling racial capitalism and striving for fair fashion. I am going to do better.⁣
⁣
Without all 3 sustainability pillars prioritised (environment, economic AND social) we do not have a sustainable fashion revolution. Without ethics and inclusivity, we don’t have sustainability. We need to hold brands accountable and insist they do better. Please check out @heysharonc’s brilliant @pullupforchange #PullUpOrShutUp initiative ⁣

  • More errands of inquiry happening over here in my dining room studio. Shoulder things and upper back things. Sometimes you gotta focus on the small moves so you can make (regain) the bigger moves.

Recently I’ve been creating individual yoga classes and recording them for people who for a variety of reasons don’t want to or can’t return to the yoga studio. Like those working long hours in essential jobs. Want a yoga class you can do on your time that has all the moves your body craves? It’s what I do. 🤗🤓

Reach out via email or DM me and I’ll make that class all about you...just for you. 💌💡🌀

Meg and I talk often how we hope someday there will be no coming out. That kids (even our kids) will be able to just bring someone home or have their friend bring partners home without feeling the need to “prep” us. But until that day if you need help navigating I made this little guide. As someone who lost just about everyone when I came out, I hope to help emotionally equip others. I do have a few friends, that were probably worried, or sad, or processing but they showed ME nothing but love and carried my news with care. Those reactions can save someone’s life. Life is messy, complex, and evolving- but love is bigger than all of that. Be gentle with each other. 🌈 #pride

  • 💫🎁💫The Holy Grail Of Working Out Just Came To Zurich.💫🎁💫

💜 Read until the end to find out how you can win a free class. 💜

💫 When we opened Booster in Zurich 6 years ago, we set out to introduce the most innovative, effective and safest workout available. We are bringing our offer to the next level with the introduction of the Lagree Ramp on July 6th in Studio Forum. The ramp is a new technology that fits under the Megaformer and elevates it gradually to allow you to reach a new level of intensity while remaining a no impact workout. The class is short, 30 minutes, but those are 30 intense minutes😅 􏰁, designed to give you the same benefits with a maximum output in the minimum amount of time!

💫 This is not for the faint hearted nor is it a class for beginners. You should be comfortable with the Lagree Method prior to joining a Lagree Ramp class. We will offer 3 different types of classes in studio Forum only: a full body class but, also a targeted core & lower body and core & upper body class. As the coach gradually elevates the machine, you slowly… No, we don’t want to spoil this amazing new experience.

💜 RAMP FACTS & INFO💜

💫 The Ramp is a key component of the Lagree Method exercise methodology and line of fitness equipment. In 1998, Sebastien Lagree started a research and development program to challenge the status quo in the fitness industry and create the most effective machines possible. Lagree Fitness now holds 84 patents (including 2 on the Method), which is unique in the fitness world.

💫The launch of the Ramp in Zurich is a first outside of the US.

💫 The Ramp has 7 different levels of incline - don't worry you will go up and down gradually and smoothly – your safety is our utmost priority.

💜 TRY THE RAMP FOR FREE 💜

💫 This Summer (until the 15.09.20), we will offer all of you an opportunity to experience this ground-breaking innovation.

💫 To book your free class, simply reserve a spot in a class as usual and the free trial class credit option will come up automatically.

💫 Reminder: you should feel comfortable with the 'flat' version of the method before trying the Ramp!

💜Level up & come try the Ramp for free💜

[Crassula ovata, commonly known as jade plant, is a succulent plant with small pink or white flowers that is native to the KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape provinces of South Africa, and Mozambique. Much of its popularity stems from the low levels of care needed; the jade plant requires little water and can survive in most indoor conditions. With their thick, woody stems and oval-shaped leaves, jade plants have a miniature, tree-like appearance that makes them very appealing for use as a decorative houseplant. They live for a very long time, often being passed down from generation to generation and reaching heights of three feet or more when grown indoors.]

  • About 3 years ago, I went searching for a yoga mat that was pretty and not made of carcinogenic chemicals and would you believe that I couldn't find one anywhere?! I wanted a mat that would stand out in a sea of boring black yoga mats and I thought "We have so much cute activewear options....why don't we have cute yoga mats?" And Luna Active Fitness Mats was born💁🏼‍♀️

And now she turns one year old tomorrow🤸🏼‍♀️

What a milestone as a biz founded by a gal who didn't even bother with a business plan and the only market research she did was a gut feeling that it was the right thing for her to do.

Chase your dreams, and they will come true. But fear them and you will never find out💫

If you've had your eye on some Luna products, keep them open for our celebration sale this weekend and our new Pilates Class Bundles going live🤭

And thank you to every one of you who has sent money to a stranger in exchange for goods😂 believed in me, supported my dream and cheered me on - together we've made the world a better, more eco-friendly and beautiful place🙏🏻

I saw the recent pride campaign of Calvin Klein, the photography of the black trans women @iamjarijones and thought “Wow, 👏🏻she👏🏻is👏🏻gorgeous!” As expected so many compliments and congratulations on her profile! BUT as I scrolled down the comment section I saw some sentences I wasn’t prepared for and was really shocked. About a month later Jari uploaded a post concerning these disrespectful comments, “revealing the ugly”.
I can’t fathom how people hide behind their monitors and write such disrespectful things. As a human being you can get so many nice comments but a bad one can really ruin everything.
This is just a quarter of what a trans black women has to deal with everyday. This is still today’s society.
On the second slide I gathered a few of the many beautiful comments. I wanted to share these, too.

Don’t police my body. I’m worthy. We are worthy 🙏🏻

From July 1st through the 25th of 1946, the US military carried out Operation Crossroads, where the they dropped a 23 kiloton ( #onthisday ) and a 15 megaton nuclear bomb on Bikini Atoll of the Marshall Islands, exposing thousands of Islanders in the surrounding areas to radioactive fallout and ultimately displacing them from their ancestral lands and waters that are still too poisonous for them to return today. 67 nuclear tests on the Marshall Islands followed this operation over the next 13 years.
.
Even the US sailors themselves were poisoned from the fallout that the wind carried their way. Everybody suffers from sadistic US military incompetence.
.
The horrendous effects are still felt today. And displaced babies born on the mainland and elsewhere are still showing physical & internal defects from the fallout.
.
The US completed a half assed attempt to clean what they could, sealing radioactive waste under a dome (pic 6), which is an increasingly oceanic threat due to rising sea levels; the US military also contributes to the most greenhouse emissions in the world.
.
When white supremacy says progress, it means genocide and destruction. They have repeatedly shown us this.

“If your "high expectations" result in your Black and brown students being kicked out of class every single day...you need to examine your expectations. I once asked a teacher if I could pull one of her kids (A Black, fifth grade boy) in the morning so he could finish a project we were doing. She asked me, ‘What time? I usually kick him out of class by 8:30.’⁣
⁣
Educators, I beg of you to examine your biases. Pay attention to trends. Make changes to your practices. Get to know your students culturally and incorporate their culture into your classroom." — Naomi O’Brien, @readlikearockstar.⁣
⁣
“I encounter more resistance from educators than just about any other sector when it comes to talking about race,” says Ijeoma Oluo. “I don’t think teachers want to be a part of the problem. Teachers are underappreciated, often very selfless people working very, very hard for children. To then have someone say, ‘You know you’re probably perpetuating some racist things in your classrooms? Do you know you’re also probably contributing to the oppression of students of color?’ That doesn’t sit well with people who genuinely love children.”⁣
⁣
The problem is that racism “is built into the bones of pretty much every organization, every structure in society, which means you have to build anti-racism into the bones if you want to fix it.” —@ijeomaoluo⁣
⁣
“Insisting ‘I don’t know if my children are Black or White or green or purple’ enables teachers to deny their own racial ideologies and to dismiss children’s racial and cultural contexts and their families’ experiences of racism,” explain Louise Derman-Sparks and Patricia G. Edwards. “In fact, color-blind ideology provides a veneer of liberality which covers up continuing racist thought and practice that is often less overt and more disguised.” (continued in comments)⁣

It’s OK to need a break.⁣
It’s OK to choose to come back to ballet or continue ballet or start ballet at 40, it’s all OK!!!⁣
⁣
It’s actually better than ok, because you get to choose and create your life and it can look like something you’ve 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 seen before.⁣
⁣
Ballet is never a waste.⁣
You are never a waste.⁣
It’s not all or nothing, it’s 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞.⁣

I remember when I chose to step back from dancing professionally all I could think about was everyone I would disappoint.⁣

All the money I had wasted.⁣
All the time...my parents time, my teachers time, my mentor’s time...I’d failed them.⁣
It sent me further into a spiral of depression.⁣

    I didn’t have what it takes.⁣
    I was “giving up.”⁣

I wish I could go back and shake that girl! But I can’t.⁣
    So let me shake you.⁣

Have you seen what the non-black political elite are saying?

Being POC Does Not Provide Immunity From Being a Racist: Be Anti-Racist. We have learned racism from our oppressors, from our colonialists and our societies. I know from my own experience that colourism, anti-blackness and racism exist widely and are entrenched into Asian people. We treat our own darker-skinned people like they're untouchable, we promote fairness creams and we've got people like PP genuinely believing she can't be racist because of her own experience of racism.

  • I used to think that life was a checklist to get to “fulfillment”.⁣
⁣
You know... go to college for something you’re good at, get the degree, score a solid job, make money, get married, have a family...the end. ⁣
⁣
I followed the path, was at the top of my career, and was doing everything I thought you had to do to feel fulfilled. But, when I got everything I thought I always wanted, I realized something big.⁣

Everyday, I questioned what was wrong with me. I wondered how everyone else had it together but I didn’t? ⁣

Shame and guilt plagued me until my pain became greater than my fear of the unknown.⁣

I remember hearing the expression, “Life is a buffet and you can have whatever you want.” I rolled my eyes and thought…”what a joke”...until, I realized, 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐮𝐩.⁣

Maybe I didn’t believe quite yet that “I could have whatever I wanted”, but I knew trying was way better than faking my way through life on autopilot.⁣

My mindset shifted from fixed to growth, and I became curious as to how I could step into the highest version of myself.⁣

It wasn’t an overnight process, I stand here now as the proud owner of Amber Connelly Coaching, where it is my mission to help leaders and professionals who feel stuck, like I once did, move forward.⁣

  • 2020 vision has a new meaning to me. I’ve realized that It is so easy to stay motivated when everything is going good. But being able to stay disciplined when things get tough and when everything, literally everything is challenging you...that’s what really matters. ⠀
⠀
Wake me up when it’s 2021 though cause I kinda hate it here😩🥺⠀
⠀
Happy Friday loves♥️⠀

  • As the saying goes, whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right.

These two words are the most powerful words that you speak to yourself about any situation - CAN and CAN'T.

CAN is a word of power.
CAN'T is a word of retreat.

You have the power to decide to ACHIEVE or RETREAT.

The most important person you speak to every day is you! What are you filling those words with?

Every morning, I visualize myself crushing my workout, helping my clients achieve their goals, and having the energy to do it all because of the healthy, nutritious foods I enjoy.

I have to admit if it was not for my inner voice saying, "You CAN do anything, Ashliegh! YOU CAN do it!" I may not be in the position I am today.
Some days it is difficult.

Some days, Negative Nancy gets in my head and tells me all the things I can’t do.

And I know I get to chose the story I tell myself.

I know this time is difficult.

You’re doing your part to #StayHome.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t reach your fitness or nutrition goals.

You can chose to say that you’re stuck inside and can’t go to the gym.

Or you can chose to say, I have everything I need to be healthy. I CAN move my body, with or without the gym.

So what are you going to tell yourself you CAN do today?

I’m looking for 7 women who want accountability to create healthy, sustainable habits. I’m offering pay what you can coaching for 21 days.

Comment below “I’m in!”

  • Does overthinking or judgment ever stop you from being yourself on social media?

Recently I posted about being excited to get a tattoo when this whole thing is over

And it was fascinating the response of messages I received

Some women implied it was hypocritical to for me to talk about safer options and then get a tattoo

While others were inspired by the art ideas and poems I've been into lately

We live in a world where black & white thinking is so pervasive

In case you struggle with feeling like a "hypocrite" or being shamed about your life choices

sometimes from folks who are well intentioned but maybe don't realize they're projecting judgement

Here's your permission slip to own + feel proud of all the parts of yourself

That's your MAGIC

Mantras for you (inspired by things I gently remind myself of too)

You can still be a feminist and want to call in a partner who takes care of you

You can still like getting your hair coloured while also using non toxic skincare

You can still value self confidence without makeup on and at the same time enjoy getting glammed up

You can still start an online business right now even if you feel unsure about "selling" in uncertain times

The shadow (hidden) or parts of ourselves we feel the most shame about, are the ones that we can embrace and love to fully accept ourselves

It might not be the kind of fun self care like face masks, but it's the kind that makes the biggest difference❤️ Tell me, what's something you find "hypocritical" about yourself that you want to embrace?

PS: if you need something to embrace all those sides of yourself - I created a new playlist for you, titled🔥 .

Message me and I'll send it over OR follow it now through the link in my bio

We're entering a new moon this week on Wednesday and this playlist will help you shift your energy😉

  • Finally getting to do aerials outside today!! Ugh I can’t wait for the gym to open back up. But anyways I’ve been focusing on opening up my shoulders during quarantine. They’re always super tight from doing hair half my life and big boobs don’t help so this is the first time I’ve actually been able to feel and see a difference!
