  • I was watching The Hollars recently and this line really stood out to me. One of the sons is asking his mom about marriage and her advice is “don’t waste your time on the bad, live with the good.” And it’s so true, not only for marriage, but all things. It’s easy to get bogged down in the bad. But it’s the good that keeps us going.

Choose to live with the good today!

  • Going down memory lane on a Monday. This picture was taken on the 10th of August 1997 in with TEC’s first bride (in the middle) and our mutual friend. I could write a book about planning this wedding!!!The wedding planning involved me travelling to Austria and Switzerland with the bride and her maid of honour to order fabrics for the couple and her friends (known as “aso ebi”). I recall the lengthy landline phone conversations  with the bride to select her colours, cake maker, caterers, live band, DJ etc. The wedding planning also included a few weekend sleepovers so we could distribute wedding invitation to older guests who attached sentimental value of hand delivery. This wedding helped  set the pace for many more TEC weddings that followed. @teantona_event_connoisseurs_ is your main 🔌 for memorable yet enjoyable events and weddings.

  • Tell us why!

New here? What is the RP? I’ve taken my Wedding Planning Process Kit and integrated it into Google Drive. But like, in a fresh and pretty way. Obviously. 💁🏻‍♀️ Here are my WHYS-

☝🏻 My clients prefer it! They already know Google Drive. ✌🏻 One time- low cost. No more guessing games on my monthly CRM cost when my client load fluctuates. ESPECIALLY RIGHT NOW.
🤟🏻Backups are easy! Who has time for PDF backups that can’t even be used? Drive gives me workable documents every time.
🖖🏻 But I’m not really worried about backups because they don’t do system wide shutdowns for upgrades and guys... unless there is an invasion of Zombies, Google isn’t going anywhere. I can sleep at night, knowing THEY WON’T CLOSE UP SHOP IN A DOWNTURN AND TAKE MY HARD WORK WITH THEM.
✋🏻It’s “mom proof”. When mom comes in and makes a change or makes a mistake, I can recover work she accidentally deleted. Now if that ain’t worth every penny, I don’t know what is!

  • Today’s innovation chat was so good. Y’all were so engaged! And some of you asked for a follow up to expand on my strong opinions related to micro weddings (and weddings-in-a-box). What are those?

👉🏻They are NOT for the faint at heart. They are harder than you think.
👉🏻In some ways, they are as much work as a large wedding. Different... but work all the same.
👉🏻 These are not new. You didn’t invent them. Stop acting like it. People see straight through that load of BS.
👉🏻 It’s important to determine if they align with your brand and if you create a separate brand, well, we will chat about how you can determine the right move for you.
👉🏻 There are long term considerations to offering them. For some, that’s not a good thing. For others, this is a GREAT thing.

Ultimately, this is where 2020 and maybe 2021 are headed so I’ve invited two long-term micro pros to lead this conversation tomorrow, because I’ve only done one of them. And it was enough to tell me it is it’s own beast. It’s important than you learn about this from people that have a lot of micros under their belt. It’s an area of expertise!

  • That's right! I've re-opened the cart on the portal. We've put so much work into improving it after the Beta mode and know you'll love it. Really, the plan had been to double the price but with the C-word, I'm going to only raise it $50 to offset a small portion of the time and effort we put into the updates.

  • The Content Creation Challenge is now live. This week, we are focused on blogging and my goal for you is to write 12 blogs. This will give you at least one blog per month for a while.

I know that is a big scary number but I know you can do it. In fact, by giving you a big number, I’m hoping it forces you to focus on a new and different way so you can earn and see how blogs don’t have to be fussy!

Join the challenge group in my link tree for added support and ideas! You don’t have to be a planner. Anyone is welcome and the password is “content creation”. Maybe you’ll even find an accountability buddy. If you haven’t caught all the tips I shared in our FB Live this morning, hop over and get inspired. I gave a lot of ideas for making this easier than you think.

From now on, I’ll do the weekly chat via Zoom Live Stream to the main FB group so I can also share the recording with those not eligible to join the main group, as a non-wedding planner. We are in this one together!

  • For me my workspace is important because I need to feel inspired on a regular basis. Where I work reflects how I feel so I want my workspace to make me feel good, to feel ready to take on the world and ultimately to make me smile.

I have several places that I turn to for this to happen and only one is my actual office space, the other two are a bit more weather dependent, but equally as important. They inspire me, they make me want to produce my best work and they make me happy.

Tell me, where is your ultimate workspace? Where do you do your best work and which is the place that inspires you the most?.

  • Friends, your people need you. You have the solution to their problem. They are looking for someone to help them... let that person be YOU.

You have a responsibility to your current clients to stay in business. To yourself to pay your bills and keep saving for the future. You are allowed to thrive right now.

If the DJs can spin from home for Venmo tips and the caterers can start meal kits for home cooking, you too are allowed to pivot!

You’re also allowed to use your current experience with C-19 as a talking point in your sales. You’ve learned a thing or two and you’re allowed to showcase that strength and skill. One of my friends posted the other day how she is so impressed with all the new ads- she’s looking at products in ways she’s never thought to use them. New times call for new perspective.

Read the room! Surround your services with giving, flexibility and love! But eff the naysayers that call it money grabbing. You OWE it to those you serve to offer them what they need.

Sending you love and giving you permission.

That’s right! The Design Kit is live and so far, the feedback has been great. I’m talking:

A Design Questionnaire more robust than I’ve seen on the market and 50+ pages of mood board templates! I also include a video to walk you through my process. 💕

I’ve intentionally not done a traditional “launch” for it as a measure of “reading the room”, but I do feel a responsibility to keeping up with the needs your business has so you can be the best you can be!

We can educate and advocate but as for client facing viral posts, this isn’t about you. 💔 This is about them and our advocating needs to be VERY surrounded by care for them.

  • I just did something that has terrified me for almost two years now.

When I acquired Refine, I was handed 12k email subscribers. 🤯

But I haven’t emailed them. Want to hear all of my excuses? 👉🏻They don’t know me. They fell in love with Alison.
👉🏻She hadn’t used the list in about a year at that point.
👉🏻GDPR has changed since then.
👉🏻My first newsletter has to be 🔥 in order for anyone to want to stay.
👉🏻 I don’t send emails consistently enough to use a list like this. I have to have consistent practice first.

And the list goes on.

But let’s be honest! I knew the second I acquired Refine in May of 2018 that I’d lose half those subscribers the first time I sent an email anyway. So that’s not a real excuse.

I really don’t have any REAL excuses. So it’s time. Tonight, I scheduled the email to be sent first thing in the morning. And you know what- whatever happens, happens.

On that note, if you didn’t catch my video in the FB group / IGTV today, it’s a heartfelt one. I talk about overcoming our excuses and making choices that make you so attractive that people just can’t resist wanting to work with you.

  • As we work so so sooo hard to educate our clients, we HAVE to shift our language on the back end. Everyday, I see someone in Refine question the cost of something.

Due diligence is one thing but deciding something is too expensive is usually about you rather than the product or service. Is it expensive, or is it just outside your own budget? Some things truly are expensive, like whoah! But for the most part, what I’m talking about is a mindset.

If we fight for our value with our clients, we need to respect the value provided by other products and services. That means shifting our language in how we talk about them and ask for them. It’s not inherently bad for you to ask for a lower priced item or for one that doesn’t break the bank. Rather than “does anyone know a cheap or free tool for X”, we could ask “does anyone know the cost ranges for X tool and have a recommendation for one?” Then, you get to decide if you value it enough to afford.

Further, we all have different definitions of “affordable” which makes the first version of that question tricky. We don’t know what affordable means to you or what you need in that product or service to consider it valuable.

I’d love to encourage some practice on this! It’s a good step in shifting that mindset, thus... making us all the more believable to our clients! (Like this message?! Share it! We need to be talking about this as much as possible.)

Yes! I have sleepless nights, moments of incredible self-doubt, and times where I’m just bloody scared about the repercussions of what I’ve done.⁠

But ultimately, I wouldn’t change any of it because within all those moments, all those fears, are moments of sheer joy.⁠
Being an entrepreneur is the biggest rollercoaster journey of your life. I’ve been to Six Flags, Alton Towers and numerous other parks like them with some HUGE rides.⁠

But let me tell you, none of them give you the ride that being an entrepreneur gives you.⁠

It simply can’t be rivalled.⁠
⁠
But you have to be brave. You have to make the hard decisions, the scary ones and the ones that keep you up at night.⁠

Bottom line you have to be prepared to fail.⁠

When the shit hits the fan, and it will, it’s about how you pick yourself up, dust yourself off and carry on regardless.⁠
