  • A few random things: over this last week as I tagged in my posts every small business + individual that made my photography assignment in Maine so amazing, I realized that almost all… are white. That’s not to take away from these people, they were all incredible. And I didn’t make the schedule or have input in the process of who I would photograph for tourism boards. YET it’s still something that, in 2020 especially, I feel I need to say to you that I noticed and want to see change. Something I WILL work to change for my own experience as a tourist in the future no matter where I go. It’s also worth noting, that the city of Portland actually is one of the more diverse in the USA, with an enormous immigrant population. And this was reflected in many of the people we met there, and in the food scene in particular.
.
Since 2018 when I met @denezy, wherever & whenever I travel, I now think about how the lands I explore were so often taken from Indigenous people by European settlers. According to the website native-land.ca, in Maine: it was Wabanaki, Penobscot and Abenaki / Abénaquis. This was a point that Catherine of @thegoodsupply and I both connected on; and I appreciated so much that we could have that conversation and that she shared some books & documentaries which have helped further my education.
.
I was also made aware after I began posting that only residents of NH, VT, CT, NT & NJ can travel to Maine without providing a negative COVID-19 test result or quarantining. And every visitor is asked to wear a mask. www.visitmaine.com/travel-with-care goes into further detail. I shared my photos & posts hoping everyone interested in Maine travel at any point, would bookmark the info for reference when planning; and in support of the communities and people who depend on responsible tourism returning. My goal is to never support irresponsible tourism. If you ever doubt that or question anything I post, please message me so we can have a frank conversation about it. ❤️

  • This #TravelTuesday I'm dreaming of this beauty! This is the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild on Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat on the French Riviera. ♥️ It's where we spent my very favorite day on our honeymoon six years ago.

A friend I knew from college was living in Nice at the time, and he tipped me off that there was a great hike around Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. To this day, it is still the most beautiful hike I have ever been on. I have hundreds of pictures I took that day!

In addition to the hike, we strolled through the gardens here at Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. 🌸 It is simply one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. The house was gorgeous, the gardens were enchanting and the fountains even went off in time to music. Talk about a magical place!

We have always said that we will go back to the French Rivera and recreate our honeymoon for our 10th anniversary. 💍Only three and a half years left to go!

Have you ever been to the French Riviera? Where did you honeymoon...or if you're not married yet, where is your dream honeymoon location?

  • Starting to get pretty ancy and I’d be lying if I said I haven’t quoted my own getaway recently!

Ry and I love to visit adult only properties- full of great food, yummy cocktails, serene beaches, lively pools and super plush room accommodations with a view.

Select destinations are open for travel at this time and you are also able to book into 2021.

What will be your first getaway when the time is right for you and yours?

  • Completed in 1762 to a design by Nicola Salvi, this world-famous Baroque fountain features a mythological sculptural composition of Neptune, god of the sea, flanked by two Tritons.

The location of the Trevi fountain marks the terminus of the ancient Aqua Virgo aqueduct and is so named on account of its position at the junction of three roads (tre vie). The fountain was the setting for an iconic scene in Fellini’s film Dolce Vita starring Anita Ekberg and Marcello Mastroianni. Since then, as you can clearly see in the photo, it has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Rome.

The legend says that one who throws a coin in the fountain shall one day return to Rome.

That said I didn't throw a coin in the first time I went to Rome, I've been back since and will again visit this incredibly well kept historical city, I'm yet to visit a place like it, jaw-dropping, stunning history on every corner.

I rarely travel to visit cities but this is an absolute must-visit in my opinion.

Vem comigo. Conheça o Brasil de perto!

  • The #GrandCanyon covers over one million acres and measures 277 miles long. From #GrandCanyonVillage, the drop measures a vertical mile, or approximately 5,000 feet, from Rim to River. If you #hike the canyon or go down by mule, it takes two days, and if you hike from the #SouthRim to #NorthRim, the trek is three days one way. But, for a real #adventure, raft through the Canyon on a trip that can take up to two weeks! 😎
The park offers a variety of sight-seeing opportunities for people of all ages and fitness levels, and scenic rim tours are an excellent way to maximize your time.

Since we're both ridiculous when it comes to planning, we decided to head to Trenta in Slovenia 20 minutes into our trip and accidentally stumbled upon the #vrsicpass on the way there and can't recommend it enough.

From mountains and insane views to herds of sheep and the clearest waters, you'll literally find everything here!!!
Have you ever been to Slovenia and do you have more tips for us about where to go?

  • 5 TIPS FOR YOUR VENICE TRIP📝⁣
 ⁣
📑SAVE this post for your future trip to Venice⁣
 ⁣
1️⃣How long to spend in Venice? We felt that two days was perfect. Venice is very compact, and you can easily see all major attractions even in one day, but we’d recommend two days to have time to explore quieter neighbourhoods and in case of bad weather.⁣
 ⁣
2️⃣How to avoid crowds? That’s a tough one, but your best bet is to venture off to small streets of residential neighbourhoods like Dorsoduro and Cannaregio.⁣
 ⁣
3️⃣Gondola ride or no? The price is steep (80 euro for 30-40 min ride and 120 euro at night), but for us, it was a bucketlist item to do. We loved our gondola ride experience, and if you decide to do it, make sure that a gondolier takes you through quiet narrow canals instead of spending the entire ride on the Grand Canal. ❗If you are on the budget, consider taking a vaporetto/a water bus – a form of public transport in Venice, which is a cheaper way to see Venice from water.⁣
 ⁣
4️⃣Lookout points? Did you know there is an observation deck on the rooftop of T Fondaco Dei Tedeschi shopping mall? ❗It’s right on the Grand Canal and it’s FREE! Advance reservations are required.⁣
 ⁣
5️⃣Best food? 🚫Don’t expect to have the best pizza of your life here – wood fired pizza ovens are banned in Venice because of fire safety concerns. Try local cuisine instead. Each region of Italy has its own cuisine based on common local ingredients, and for Venice, it’s lots of fish and seafood dishes as it sits on the water. 🦑Try cicchetti (finger foods similar to Spanish tapas) at Osteria Al Squero and grab a bigoli-to-go (Venetian freshly made pasta) at Bigoi.⁣
 ⁣
Visiting Venice can be overwhelming, but with a little bit of research, you won’t fall for tourist traps. Hope you find our tips helpful!😊

  • 🌺 Terrazza Bar Al Ponte, Verona, Italy ⁣
⁣
If you want a gorgeous view of the Adige river with a great meal in front of you and an Aperol spritz in hand, then be sure to check out this cafe the next time you’re in Verona.⁣
⁣
It was busy but not overly crowded on their back patio, so I wrote postcards for my friends back home while we sat on the tables closest to the water. After dinner, we walked across the Ponte Pietra located right next to the cafe to watch the sunset, and then went on our way to find some gelato or a risino!⁣
⁣
Also, did you know Aperol spritzes were created 101 years ago in Padua, a city about 50 miles east of Verona?
⁣
Then, did you know Campari, an aperitif within the same family as Aperol, is actually almost 60 years older than its sweeter, more popular Aperol relative? Personally, I’m more of a Campari Spritz fan, but on a warm Italian evening I will definitely gladly take either. What about you? Aperol Spritz or Campari Spritz? 🍊

  • @travelbackpakers How happy 😃 is the little stone
That rambles in the road alone,
And doesn't care about careers,
And exigencies never fears;
Whose coat of elemental brown
A passing universe put on;
And independent as the sun ☀️ ,
Associates or glows alone,
Fulfilling absolute decree
In casual simplicity.

  • The day passed uneventful, swimming 🏊🏻‍♀️ in the lake,
where the undercurrent is known to tug weak swimmers 🏊🏻‍♀️
to the ice-cold dark bottom, never to return.

Around the campfire 🔥 tonight, with a half-moon shining,
crickets 🦗 chirp, lightning 🌩 bugs 🐛 blink, owls 🦉 hoot,
and tiny eyes 👀 glow in the distant dark.

All of the campers, the boys and girls, are accounted.
Near this very spot, a long time ago, something unexpected
happened; it was when the sandy soil gave way.

A spring runs nearby, you could hear it right over there.
Except, it stopped running and dried up, and the earth
began to cave in, as a sinkhole developed.

The sinkhole, that's the giant hole you hiked passed
to arrive at this spot; it devoured an entire team of horses,
with their wagons too.

Can you hear the spring? No. It must be dry again.
What are the chances that tonight, when you return
to your tents that they will be there in the morning?

Oh well, if it is not the tents crashing in the night,
maybe it will just be the bears. You aren't hiding candy
in your tents, are you? #travelketu #swimingpools #swimingpooltime #enjoymichigan #traveladvice #travelbelize #travelcontest #traveldesire #travelenjoyrespect #travelforfun #travelguidebali #travelhome #travelisrael #traveljepang #travelky #travellikealocal #travelmilitia #travelnsw #travelovers #travelpartners #travelquotestoliveby #travelreview #vegantravels #travelthroughthelenses #travelusa🇺🇸 #travelvictoria #travelwear #travelxp #travelyoutuber #followforfollows

  • 🍦Happy National Ice Cream Month! Last summer I visited the Leaning Tower of Pisa for lunch on my way to Florence from Cinque Terre. Lunch ended up being a piece of 🍕 in Pisa haha but I was surprised to later find out that this isn’t the most-leaning structure in Italy! Torre Garisenda in Bologna actually slants a bit more. ⁣
⁣
(You aren’t able to go inside the Garisenda Tower, but located right next to it is the Asinelli Tower, which you can climb and is the tallest leaning tower in all of Italy. Once you reach the top you can look out and see the beautiful views of Bologna, and if you look down you can also see just how much that second tower is leaning.) ⁣
⁣
🌟Tips if you are visiting Pisa via train:⁣
- Purchase bus tickets to the Piazza del Duomo from the train station kiosk instead of waiting until getting on the bus because it’s a full euro more to purchase from the driver (1.50 euros vs 2.50 euros)⁣
- If Pisa is a stopover, leave your baggage at the station: For 5 euros per bag you can store them at Terminal One. Then you won’t have to worry about luggage while visiting a pickpocketing hotspot! ⁣
⁣
If you want to climb up one of the towers, I suggest the Asinelli tower in Bologna because it only costs 5 euros, as opposed to 18 euros for Pisa’s structure. Plus, there are WAY fewer crowds trying to go up the stairs. Purchase your tickets ahead of time online. ⁣
⁣
I only went up the Asinelli Tower but I had to pat myself on the back for getting enough courage to go up those rickety wooden stairs. Has anyone climbed both towers?
