  • "If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in water." - Loren Eiseley

WATER / is my safe space. In the pool. In a bath. At the beach. 🌊 Any and all works for me. Soothes me and intrigues me. 

When I'm in the water I bring all my attention to it. I take note of how my body feels in the moment. Focusing on each sense...one at a time. 

Sight: 👀 paying attention to the patterns on the surface of the water. How the water breaks over the shell. How the wave foams up and then dissipates.

Smell: 👃🏼closing my eyes and thinking about the beach air, the slight saltiness in the breeze

Touch: 👐🏼 thinking about how the water feels agianst my skin. Scanning through each of part of my body and noticing if there's any tension. Letting them relax and letting the tension drift away with the wave.

Sound: 👂🏼picking out each of the individual sounds one by one - the wave sliding in, my breathing, the wind.

Try this sensory meditation the next time you're at the beach. It's like a little spa escape for the senses even for just a moment. ✨👌🏼

  • Weer een inspirerende coachdag voor de boeg in mijn praktijk in Gorinchem vandaag. 
Hoe vitaal ben jij?
Bij vitaliteit denken we vaak aan een gezonde leefstijl en dan met name aan gezond eten, bewegen en ontspanning. Deze zijn heel belangrijk om je goed te voelen, maar er zijn ook nog andere belangrijke zaken voor jouw vitaliteit. 

Dit heeft te maken met je gedrag en overtuigingen, je sociale contacten en zingeving. 
In hoeverre doe jij waar je goed in bent en wat jij belangrijk vindt
Gezond eten alleen betekent niet veel als je je innerlijke kompas negeert (of hier helemaal niet in contact mee bent)

Kortom alle elementen zijn belangrijk om je als geheel vitaal te voelen.
Mijn benadering is dan ook vanuit een brede aanpak aan de slag te gaan.

  • By assuming you have all the answers, how much more do you expect to grow and learn? There are so many different ways to achieve things but we often get caught up with certain ideas and we become overly attached to them. This can make things more complicated than it is.

I see this in people I coach who aren't willing to let go of certain ideas and beliefs. I get it some beliefs which were formed at a young age help us feel protected and safe but if your not willing to challenge your beliefs, how would you expect to grow? I get it thou it's hard when you want to find a cure or quick fix but still being open minded may help you achieve faster results than dabbling in different areas.

Sometimes it's hard to take in new information because we don't want to feel "inferior" and want to appear like we know everything. It's the "lone wolf" mentality where you want to think you achieved everything alone. Although to some extent this is true, you still need the mindset to be willing to learn for others. When you look at great athletes like Micheal Jordan, it was his ability to push past his ego to learn new things from his coach that allowed him to grow.

  • I have something SO COOL to tell you! Cooler than ice cream and polar bears and James Dean combined! 
The last 2 weeks I was on vacation and so many great things happend at the same time!

  • This weeks #stress #mantra 

"Even though I feel stressed, I completely love and accept myself."

Stress management is all about learning to let go of things and the realisation that things outside of your control need to be let go of.

Now of course that doesn't mean f**k it, someone else can do it. It means if you can't control the outcome it is better to not worry about that and just do your best. Easidr said than done sometimes. The above mantra, and healing crystals help many learn to deal this way.

  • Worry less, appreciate more 😍 .. that’s my theme of the week. How am I going to make this a reality? 🤷🏻‍♀️(and you can do this too 🤙🏽)..

1. Write down my worries or speak about them each day, when they arise. No holding in things that are on my mind. We all have things we worry about it’s very very human! Mine tend to be silly short term things like ‘did I say the wrong thing?’ and actually quite irrational 😝 but speaking about these things or at least writing them down helps for sure! ..
..
2. To appreciate more I acknowledge all the things I’m grateful for. Continuously, throughout the day even if I’m feeling tired or icky ✌🏽 ..
..
3. When I worry about something consider ‘ 1 year from now, will I be worrying about this thing?’ 🤷🏽‍♂️ in general it’s a no and this helps put the worry into perspective ..
..
4. Appreciate what you CAN do rather than what you can’t. Forgetting about ‘what if we were in Morocco right now?’ because that’s not reality and living in a fake existence isn’t going to do me any good! Instead, focussing my attention on the present and taking in all that is. Appreciating it all 😍 ..

في ناس بتواجه الناس وبتبقى معهم .. وناس بتهرب وبتبعد عن الناس 

🤷‍♂️🤷🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦‍♂️الناس اللي بتواجه ممكن خلال تواجدها ادايق وتصرخ على اللي حواليها اللي الهم دخل واللي ما إلهم دخل اللي مجبورين يتحملو واللي مش مجبورين. 

🙎‍♀️🙎‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃🏻‍♀️أما الناس اللي بتهرب عشان ما دايق اللي حواليها بردود فعلهم بس بنفس الوقت بنكروا مشاعرهم وبكبتوها وبرجعوا بتواصلوا مع اللي حواليهم ولا كأنه في شي.

💁‍♀️💁‍♂️في مجموعة ثالثة بتاخد من المجموعتين

يعني بالاوقات الصعبة بضل لوحدها واول ما تروق بتحكي مع شخص داعم وقريب وبفهمها وبس يروق برجع بتواصل مع الناس.

✔️ المهم بكل الموضوع انه احنا اللي مسؤولين عن أي طريقة نتعامل فيها مع الضغوط مش اللي حوالينا مضطرين يتحملوا الصراخ والإهانة والعصبية والمزاجية (بحجة الضغوط)

✔️ولا إنه سليم إنك تكبت مشاعرك وتخلي بقلبك لانه مع الوقت رح يكون لهاي الضغوط آثار نفسية كبيرة ممكن توصل للموت.

  • I’m trying to stay connected to what I know is true and real and lives and dies in the natural order of things. What I know will not manipulate, coerce, deceive, abuse or rob me. Nature is my answer. Nature allows me to be me. To be voyeur or to help in its nourishment. Nature allows a moments breath, a chance to try to connect, a haven in the wreck of stress.  Nature lets me understand the mess of true growth, and even to grown with it. Whether it is my favourite thousand year old yew tree holding secrets of centuries, or whether it is flowers blooming in a simple garden, nature holds the key in times like these.

  • In todays world our daily living causes stress, which can be harsh on our adrenal glands 😩

These glands are responsible for initiating our “fight or flight” response releasing hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. In small amounts this response keeps us safe but when we feel “stressed” daily, our body becomes on high alert with these hormones pumping through continuously. This can leave us feeling moody, hungry, forgetful, irritable, frustrated, non sociable and bloated to name a few!

What can we do to support our adrenals?
-  Eat clean and whole foods at every meal and eat regularly! Leaving long gaps between meals can cause havoc on your energy levels.
- Get adequate sleep 🙏🏻 Lack of sleep can cause an increase in cortisol levels. Try doing something relaxing before bedtime like reading, colouring, meditating.
- Reduce your caffeine intake ☕️ this also leads to increased levels of cortisol, and paired with outside stressors can lead to chronically elevated cortisol levels which can contribute to high blood sugar and decreased insulin sensitivity making gaining weight more likely.
- Reduce refined carbohydrates 🍰🧁🥟 these elevate blood sugar levels and cause stress to your adrenals.
- Activate your parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) which is the opposite to your fight or flight. This becomes activated by deep breathing exercises, meditation, yoga or anything that SLOWS you down ✨

Adrenal fatigue is not a pretty thing to go through (speaking from experience) so make sure you treat your adrenals with care 🌺

  • Don't forget to stop and smell the roses!

Life moves so fast. So often getting wrapped up in the little details. 

I often focus on my mental illness and forget to focus on the world around me. I can be in such a beautiful place, and if I am anxious I don't even notice. 

I often remove myself from a situation when I get anxious, my goal now is to wait it out, work through my anxiety and go back to enjoying this beautiful world! I feel like I miss out on so much due to my Anxiety, I am going to work on changing that!

  • Not so picture perfect. 

I personally love taking photos! I love looking back on trips and fun memories with friends and family! 

But what is happening behind the scenes of the photo isn't always "picture perfect" and that is okay! 

A lot of times behind the scenes of my photos there is a lot of Anxiety, and also panic attacks (especially in my travel photos!) 

I have learned this is part of living with mental illness, and that is okay. Life doesn't need to he picture perfect. In fact it never will be picture perfect, that's just how life is! 

I do like having photos to look back on though, to make sure I focus on the positives about events, my brain often gets clouded with only the negatives. So having photos to look back on is really helpful to me!

    I personally love taking photos! I love looking back on trips and fun memories with friends and family!

  • Mental illness is not a personal failure. 

Saw this quote earlier today and it hit me hard. I so often get really down on myself when there is something I cannot do due to my mental illness. I have a hard time not viewing myself as a failure. 

One big thing recently is, I had to pause my career to focus on mental health. At first I was viewing it as a failure. I felt I had failed, let my family down, teachers, myself, mentors. Everyone.

I am working really hard now to view it as a positive, I am not a failure, I am putting my well being first and that should not be looked down upon. I will come back stronger because I am focusing on myself! 

While some days it is really hard to not view myself as a failure, I am trying to combat that with positive self talk. It hasn't been easy but I know it will be worth it!

  • Running on caffeine ☕

No matter how much sleep I get I am always exhausted😴 

I have Anxiety to thank for that!  I am both mentally and physically exhausted. Waking up in the morning is no easy task. I will sleep though all my alarms. Once I do finally wake up it is a battle to stay awake. I have fallen back asleep while eating breakfast more than I would like to admit. 

Coffee and I have become best friends, many days it is the only reason I can somewhat make it though the day as a functioning human. 

I would like to find a way to help beat this fatigue that isn't coffee! I am tired of always being so tired! So we will see how that goes!

  • Sleepless nights 😴

Last night was really rough. I did my normal nighttime routine, and when I closed my eyes to sleep my head started scrolling through events that have happened in my past that were extreemly high anxiety moments for me, such as having a panic attack on a flight, throwing up on a ride at an amusement park, and many more events. These moments my Anxiety has been at its highest and cause me a lot of fear now. My head decided to replay all these events last night for some reason. 

While this was happening I was feeling all the symptoms, heart racing, stomach turning, feeling like I can't breathe. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep. 

I am feeling the effects today 😴 I am extremely exhausted and my Anxiety is at a higher level than normal for me. Going to make sure I do some extra self care today, putting my mental health first!

  • Your mental health is a priority! 

It took me quite awhile to learn this lesson, but I have finally learned it! For years I was not making my mental health a priority and it destroyed me. I reached a point where my Anxiety was completely out of my hands, I couldn't even leave my bedroom without having a panic attack. It was such a scary time, and so frustrating feeling like I had no control. 

Now I am putting my mental health first! I am in therapy. I am open and honest with what I am going through. I am okay saying no to commitments when I know it is good for my mental health. And so much more!

I am making sure I continue to prioritize my mental health so I do not fall back into old habits, so thankful for friends and family who encourage me to do so 💞

  • ‘How is your week going?’...’I am really busy.’.... How often do we have these kind of conversations?

It seams like, if we are not having a busy week working, handling kids, having our weekend planned from Friday to Sunday night and making sure we go to our yoga class three times a week...something is off.
•
Sometimes I even think in today’s society a busy life is seen in relationship with how successful and how much someone can/will accomplish. 
But isn’t it way more valuable and impressive to manage living our lives, accomplishing our goals without living in a constant ‚fight or flight‘ state? Reducing the risk of heart diseases, a weaken immune system and not making it harder to control our emotions or affect our relationships?

Of course there are times in our life where a lot is going on and stress will be really hard to avoid. But for most parts, it’s us choosing to create a busy day. And it always starts in our head. We can choose to say NO to a lot of things and choose our thoughts and mind what we experience as stressful situations.
We all have the power to prioritize a lot of things throughout our day. I even think, if I have had a really stressful day, it’s just me being really bad at time management and letting my thoughts to take over...

Let’s not give each other extra credit for feeling like running away from a lion all the time is a good thing. Instead let’s learn from each other how to find our individual triggers that cause stress and how to handle it best.

It’s at the point when I find myself saying “life shouldn’t be this hard”, “work shouldn’t take this much time out of my life”, or “I should be further along by now”, that a mindset shift is needed.

I’m not aiming for an easy life - I’m aiming for living my best life - without challenges there is no progress - without progress I will never reach my highest self♥️

  • A big misconception people have about reaching out for support is that they have to be at breaking point, struggling, burnt out, unwell or unable to do things on their own.⠀

This may be true for you but you can also be doing well and know there’s things you’d like to focus on, improve or get better and still want support.⠀

You might want to put things in place to avoid reaching the point of illness.⠀
⠀
You might love being able to chat to someone without being loaded up with things to try and being told everything you have to do.⠀

You might enjoy being able to talk to someone about what’s going well and celebrate your progress.⠀

You might simply like to let your facade down, vent and see where you’re at.⠀
⠀
There are SO many reasons people reach out for support.⠀

Don’t let the fear of what others will think stop you, or wait until you’re at breaking point to do something to support yourself.⠀

🔅Worrying about something over and over and over again is called ❗️ruminating❗️. Ruminating leads to stress, anxiety, and dysfunction within our lives.

🔅So what can you do if you catch yourself ruminating?:

🔅Try getting out of your head by VISUALIZING: take 5-10 minutes to escape to a place that brings you happiness and peace.

🌟Picture yourself in a place that brings stillness within you—maybe the beach, your childhood treehouse, the mountains, etc.

🌟What do you see there? What do you smell? What do you feel? 

🌟Focus on those sensations...soon enough your physical body will begin reacting to the calm that your brain is creating
