  • Found this perfect little automotive mirror and finally got to observe my creation in motion. Short of having someone film you driving, or watching someone else drive your car, glass windows like this are your only way to get a third-person glimpse of the car doing what it was built to do. Even then, the windows are usually facing a street where your experience is dictated by the flow of traffic. This stretch faced an empty parking lot, so I definitely got my fill.

  • These evergreen GM wagons, produced for almost 20 years, used to be as familiar as sunrise and sunset - default suburban family transport. In the mid-1980s minivans changed the family car landscape, but GM stuck by the big B-body wagons, hardly changing them at all until 1991. At Pontiac, however, the badging and circumstances of the B-wagon changed again and again even if the vehicle did not. From 1987-89, it remained as the Pontiac Safari, a stub of the former Parisienne lineup. In the increasingly plastic-clad, front-drive Pontiac lineup, it stood out like an eccentric distant uncle at a family reunion.

The car first debuted in 1977 as the Catalina Safari and the plusher Grand Safari (renamed Bonneville Safari in 1979). Pontiac’s B-bodies were excellent cars but never resonated with the public in the way older big Pontiacs had, and Pontiac’s big cars were the slowest sellers of all five U.S. GM divisions. The B-cars were treated to an aerodynamics-driven styling update for 1980, only to see Bonneville/Catalina sales fall again, and again in 1981. The sharp recession and OPEC 2 crisis had killed demand for big cars. Mid-year, division chief Bill Hoglund decided to drop the B-bodies outright. He didn’t think the frilly broughams fit with Pontiac’s “excitement” mission, and they were hardly selling anyway.

18 months later, the decision was reversed when gas prices fell and big cars began to come back. Dealers clamored for them and Pontiac obliged, excitement or no. In Canada, it had continued to build them as the Parisienne, and in early 1983 they returned to the U.S. line as Parisiennes, with the wagon now the Parisienne Safari. Parisienne sales boomed in 1985-86, but GM had already committed to a new fwd Bonneville more in keeping with Pontiac’s mission. In 1987, the Parisienne sedan was dropped and the wagon renamed to just “Safari.” GMC, often twinned with Pontiac in the dealer network, had launched a truck-ish Safari minivan in 1985, leading to the curious situation of two very different Safaris sharing the same lot. Buyers kept coming in modest numbers through 1989, but the Safari was dropped that year to make way for 1990’s TransSport minivan.

Заметила, что лично мне в этом году ничего не далось просто так. Поэтому очень сильно ценю время, которое можно потратить не впустую.
Кто знаком со мной лично, то прекрасно знает (а иногда и видит) мой процесс планирования. Да, я тот самый перфекционист, который ставит конкретное число целей на месяц/сезон/год. И постоянно ведёт ежедневники📆Люблю это делать, потому что для меня это является в какой-то степени «пинком». Итак, остаётся 5 суббот, и лето 2020 останется позади. За август хочу навести внешний марафет Люциферу, заштопать водительское сиденье на Москвиче #рубиновыймустанг (от старости рассохлись нитки), ну и хорошенько отдохнуть, чтобы набраться сил перед новым учебным годом.
