  • Day 27 of the 30 day #mindfulmovement challenge is a 90 degree external rotation exercise against the wall. Throughout the entire range of motion, your low back, upper back and head should all stay in contact with the wall. This ensures the motion is coming entirely from the shoulder!

  • Landing mechanics has always been a hot topic in sports medicine. Let’s be honest, watching elite athletes perform at a high level and analyzing their movement is sexier than most low-level rehab exercises for movement enthusiasts. So it’s natural for clinicians and trainers to get excited when teaching someone landing mechanics. In this article, you’ll learn the basics of what to focus on with teaching landing mechanics.⁣
⁣
Landing mechanics, in short, is just how you land and how it looks. You have to have big brakes, meaning strong muscles, when it comes to great landing mechanics. Before you even start working on landing mechanics, you need to have prerequisite strength and deceleration skills. There are a couple of things I also want to make note of below ⤵️⁣
⁣
✅ Form – Shoulders in line with the hips, hips in line with the knees, shoulders stacked over knees, knees stacked over toes. You can appreciate this looking at someone head-on and from the side similar to the photos above.⁣
.⁣
✅ Active Shock Absorption – Another word for absorbing force and landing softly using the muscles vs. hard/stiff landings putting more stress through the joint. There is a time and place to practice harder landings, however, I like to teach someone landing mechanics first with a soft landing. An easy way to cue this is to tell the person to be quiet with their landing.⁣
.⁣
✅ Weight Distribution – You don’t want the weight shifted too far back on the heels or too far forward on the toes. We also don’t want to see someone favoring one side more than the other, poor balance, or lack of trunk control. This is something I review in the video below with Mike.⁣

Similar to many other modalities, there are more than one way to utilize Dry Needles in a given session. For the purposes of this client the goal is to break up scar tissue from an ankle surgery a few years back.

His experience after session was an increase of range of motion during movement ✅

  • Em 2017, no último ano da faculdade sofri um dilema muito grande, que carreia médica eu seguiria.

Muitos professores me incentivavam a fazer cirurgia. Primeiro, porque eu tinha facilidade. Segundo, porque meu pai era cirurgião, minha mãe anestesista, e isso poderia me ajudar na carreia profissional. Pensei bem e não fui para uma área cirúrgica, a contra gosto da maioria.

Pensei então em fazer Emergência, fui da Liga da Trauma da minha faculdade, e amava aquela loucura do inesperado. Contudo, uma vida de plantões e isso iria me desgastar muito.

Então, escolhi que seria uma área clínica, e saber qual foi outro dilema 😅. Pediatria nunca foi meu forte, e olha que o problema não eram as crianças, eram os pais. Dermatologia era bem legal a parte oncológica, mas não seria meu dia a dia de consultório. Gostava demais de Pneumologia, Cardiologia, Endocrinologia, mas nunca pensei em fazer uma só. 

Com isso, numa conversa com uma professora, ela me disse para fazer Medicina Esportiva, pois englobava Pnumo, Cardio, Endocrino e Ortopedia e assim eu não cansaria nunca. Já tinha procurado sobre essa área uns anos antes e falaram que não era área para mulher, que não iria em lugar nenhum, o que me desanimou na época.

Pois bem, fui pesquisar mais a fundo e vi que era exatamente isso que eu queria. Fazer promoção em saúde, usar o esporte como mecanismo, junto de bons hábitos de vida. Uma especialidade que serviria para TODOS. E decidi ser Médica do Esporte.

Hoje, sou residente do segundo ano dentro do Iamspe, e vejo que eu e meus R= de especialidades tem o mesmo brilho nos olhos que eu e se dedicam ao máximo por essa linda profissão. Fiz a MELHOR escolha!!

  • Para quem pergunta como é a consulta:
Esse é o passo a passo que ensino aos meus alunos na pós graduação de Medicina do Exercício e do Esporte:
- Anamnese - a primeira conversa. Entender porque o paciente está ali, quais as necessidades e motivações dele. 
- Exame físico. Saber se está tudo bem na maior parte dos sistemas corporais relacionados aos exercícios, dando indícios para solicitação de exames. 
- Solicitação de exames complementares os exames que estão relacionados com a doença que o paciente tem, as alterações em geral, com a performance ou a nutrição e suplementação. 

Retorno
- olho e discuto os exames com o paciente, solicito exames para complementar o que encontramos se for o caso: Ex uma Ressonância, uma biópsia de um nódulo, etc.
- Oriento qual o tipos de exercício físico mais indicado, ou modulo o exercício que já está fazendo de acordo com os exames, principalmente a avaliação postural e antropometria. Ex acrescentar exercícios de alongamentos de determinada região, reforçar musculatura estabilizadora do quadril, etc...
- Oriento o tipos de alimentação mais adequada de acordo com os achados nos exames e necessidades e preferências do paciente. Ex um estratégia de Low Carb, um bulking, etc.
- oriento a suplementação de acordo com as deficiências. Ex Vit d, ômega-3.
- Prescrevo a parte farmacológica de acordo com as necessidades e objetivos do paciente.

I remember being in their shoes one short year ago, and it is amazing to look back and see how much I have learned. SO SURREAL.

This medical training is not easy. It's a grueling three years. But if it were easy, everyone would do it. It takes a special person to put their lives on hold...to help the lives of others. It truly has been an amazing experience and I have loved meeting all the new faces behind these masks over the past couple days!
.
Don't let anyone tell you that your dreams are not worth pursuing. Is it going to be hard? Yes. Will you want to quit? Yes, multiple times. But will you be fulfilled when it's all over? Absolutely. 🤘🏻#getit
