  • Starship Development Series, Part 10.

In July 2019, the Starhopper made its initial flight test, a "hop" of approximately 20 m (66 ft) altitude, and a second and final "hop" in August, reaching an altitude of approximately 150 m (490 ft) and landing approximately 100 m (110 yd) from the launchpad, demonstrating the first use of the Raptor engine in real flight.

By late May 2019, while the Starhopper was preparing for untethered flight tests in South Texas, they were building two high-altitude prototypes simultaneously, Mk1 in Texas and Mk2 in Florida. The two ships were constructed by competing teams—that were required to share progress, insights, and build techniques with the other team, but neither team is required to use the other team's techniques. The larger Mk1 and Mk2 test vehicles featured three Raptor methalox engines meant to reach an altitude of no more than 5 km (3.1 mi).

In September 2019, Elon Musk unveiled Starship Mk1, and in 20 November 2019, the Mk1 test article came apart in a tank pressure test in Texas. The failure was attributed to a weld failure, although many experienced weld engineers cite of a weld being the strongest part in a structure if done correctly.

The same day, SpaceX stated they would stop developing Mk1 & Mk2 and move on to work on the Mk3 (SN1) & Mk4 (SN2) articles.

To be continued …

  • Lazareth has unveiled a new bike that is capable of converting into a hoverbike. The new bike LMV 496 will cost around Rs 3.5 crore. Initially, the French automotive company has decided to make only five prototypes of the bike. Later on, LMV 496 will be up for sale. By the time the bike is on the road, its electric motor will be functional and will go up to 60 miles on a single charge. When the bike lifts in the air, it uses four jet propulsion engines, giving the bike up to 10 minutes of flight time.

  • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Friday announced that Chandryaan-2 has captured images of the Moon, and named one of the craters after Vikram Sarabhai. Sarabhai is the father of the Indian space programme.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Jitendra Singh said that it is a fitting tribute to his legacy, who completed his birth centenary year on August 12. Singh also lauded the the achievements of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) which has put India in a leading position for space research.

The Sarabhai Crater is around 250 to 300 kilometres east of the crater where the Apollo 17 and Luna 21 Missions had landed.

  • Boca Chica nightly update. Not much tonight, but here we go!
—————————————
(1st photo) It’s looking like the Highbay has gotten its top layer even though we thought it would get another full layer. There were 2 pieces placed today, thinking it’ll be done by the middle of next week if they’re planning two layers a day. Then they just have to place the top, and work on the exo-skeleton of the Highbay.
—————————————
(3rd photo) Here’s some more rebar added to the super heavy launch pad. Wondering when they’re going to place some concrete on the rebar.
—————————————
(4th photo) Here’s a picture of Starhopper from today. Remembering towards last year with Starhoppers 150m flight. SN6 is up next!

Part earth and sea, wind and fire, with some salt and dust swimming in them. We have a universe within ourselves that mimics the universe outside. None of us are just black or white, or never wrong and always right. No one. No one exists without polarities. Everybody has good and bad forces working with them, against them, and within them.🚀

"Here’s last January’s lunar eclipse reprocessed to mix data from two scopes for better resolution. This image was captured from picacho peak, while the weather was extremely iffy. There was a perfectly timed break in the clouds to allow for some good imaging during the penumbral eclipse, but there was a lot of haze caused by the clouds. Hope you guys enjoy :)"

Felt a HUGE case of deja vu today...
This morning, we took the wrong exit near Cocoa Beach while looking for a space museum and ended up on the other side of the bridge. We drove a little further and discovered the awesome SpaceX Launch and Landing Control center😅 This moment reminded me of a similar coincidence that happened when I was around 4 or 5:
•
What happened today was just like that day 10 years ago when my family and I were driving back from Disney World towards Miami and we took a wrong turn on the road and ended up in Merritt Island. We were lead near Kennedy Space Center, so we decided to spend the day there. As a toddler, I was absolutely fascinated by all the rockets in the Rocket Garden towering over my little head, all the pictures of stars and planets, and all the capsules and space craft in exhibit🛰Our tour guide took us into a part of the visitor center that had models of the Saturn V, pictures taken on the moon, and little videos on display showing clips of the astronauts walking on the lunar surface. He proceeded to tell us that these were the first 12 astronauts on the moon, and that very soon, we were sending astronauts to Mars👩‍🚀He pointed to a couple of little kids in our tour group and said that it would be our generation that would walk on Mars, and he even said that maybe one of us would go to Mars one day☄️He looked straight into my eyes and asked “Do YOU wanna go to Mars?” I literally screamed “IM GONNA BE THE FIRST GIRL ON MARS!!!!”🤣 And thats where my dream of going to the red planet ignited✨
•
It’s crazy to think how an “accident” while driving would change my life forever in the best way possible❤️It was really sweet remembering how similar that “wrong turn” on the road was to today’s little adventure. My dad and I kept on laughing while driving back about how ridiculously loud I screamed that day😂 That was a great little flashback😊❤️
