  • there's a really bad reception at our camp so I missed yesterday post, so will compensate today with double amount. I accumulated a bit of canper trip spots so you can expect summer vibes along the way. First goes this #hippie #vwt3 #camper custom fitted with #westfalia interior. Friendly owners lent us extension cords so we could have power in our van too. #soloparking #vanspotting #nomorewar

  • B3 Variant is definitely a proper and reliable workhorse, but I have never seen them in such lovely pearl colour. And look at its cosy well-preserved interior!
Although, it is sitting there some years, I want to believe it will be back on the road one day.

  • 1968 Volkswagen Beetle
_____
The Beetle: a car that started life as a murderous dictator's dream, yet ended up being a symbol for love and peace (stole that line from @jamespumphrey)
.
It started life in the mid-1930s in Germany, when Hitler wanted to make a car for the people and hired a decent racecar engineer named Ferdinand Porsche to develop it. You may have heard of him 🤔.
.
Now there was a small Czechoslovakian car maker named Tatra, and Hitler and Porsche miiiight have stolen their designs. If you look at the Tatra V570 prototype and the 1936 Tatra 97, it's pretty obvious (swipe to see the resemblance).
.
Unsurprisingly, Tatra tried to sue the company, but that plan went to shit after Hitler decided to invade their country 🙃. In 1938 the original Beetle (initially called the Type 1) was made and given to high-ranking military officers🎖️, but production had to be shut soon after to make way for military vehicles.

After WW2 ended, British forces found the production plans and parts for the Beetle and actually tried letting British car makers bid for it to make it in the UK, but no one wanted it, cuz GeRmAnY ❌🇩🇪. Eventually production restarted in Germany in 1946 and the rest is history; it was only in the '60s that VW paid Tatra to compensate for stealing their designs.

Because of relying solely on the Beetle, VW ended up struggling financially in the 70's and needed to be bailed out by the German government to make it's replacement: the VW Golf🏌️‍♂️. However, the company never killed the Beetle, but eventually while production slowly ended globally, it still managed to live on in Mexico all the way until 2003!

This particular car was imported straight from Germany since new, and was restored by @pavan.kadam at one point. While there were many different engine options, powering this one is a 1.5-litre flat-4 engine making about 53HP, one of the more powerful models on sale!

  • 1954 Fiat 1100 (Millecento)
_____
It was the late '50s, with Europe still reeling from the effects of WW2. Fiat gave their chief designer Dante Giacosa the task to make a family car that could seat 6 people and their luggage, be cheap to run, and also tackle bad post-war roads with ease.

Fiat unveiled the 1100 in 1953 and just one year later, they started importing these directly from Italy to India. Premier Auto Ltd. (PAL) was the sole importer and eventually got the license to build these cars in the country.

The car came with an (almost) 1.1-litre 4-cylinder engine making just 36HP. But being light and also rear-wheel-drive, it was a fantastic handler, and was quickly known as a 'driver's car'. In fact, even big man Enzo Ferrari himself sent a telegram to Giacosa, congratulating him on making such a fantastic machine.

Locally, though, these initial cars were known as "Dukkar" (meaning 'pig') Fiats, because the rear of the car was rounded like a pig 🐖. It even had suicide doors on the front; note the position of the door handle.

This one was in fantastic condition, at least from the outside, and is usually parked alongside an immaculate Morris Minor from the same period.

  • 2019 Audi S5 Sportback
_____
The A5 was meant to be a coupe version of Audi's popular entry-level A4 sedan. It also comes in a variety of bodystyles, like this 'Sportback' here, which basically means it's like a 4-door coupe... one of the worst trends of the last few years are these 'coupes-but-not-really' cars 🤮.
.
This is a 2nd-gen car, but I think the original one looked way better than this, and it had awesome V8 engines too. While there are a range of petrol and diesel engines available, powering this S5 is a 3-litre turbocharged V6 engine making a decent 354HP. But in this age of smaller engines, even the high-performance RS5 comes with a V6, not a V8 like before. Truly, we are in the end times.

Once again, not much to say about this car. Enjoy lol.

  • 1990 Suzuki Vitara
_____
The Vitara (or Escudo, as it was known in other countries) was a small plucky little SUV that was meant to slot in above the Gypsy/Jimny/Samurai. It was sold in North America under a ton of different names, such as the Chevy Tracker, Geo Tracker, and Pontiac Sunrunner.

These things were even available with 4-Wheel-Drive, and were pretty decent at off-roading. Check #PIBSuzuki to find a tiny 3-door version of this car. Powering this particular car is a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder engine making 100HP. Despite this being an import, it's actually a very smart decision; some engine parts are possibly interchangeable with the old Suzuki Baleno sold in India!

I'm not sure where this one was imported from, Australia is a likely option, but it was in really bad shape. If the Vitara was officially sold here, I think Maruti Suzuki would've had a runaway success on their hands, and I'm not talking about the Vitara Brezza.

Many car makers today are scrambling to make mini SUVs that are under 4 metres in length, since taxes and duties are lowest here for cars shorter than 4 metres, but the 3-door Vitara was just about 3.7 metres in length, making it the perfect SUV for our roads back then! 🚙

  • 2018 Mercedes-Maybach S560
_____
Maybach was a German company that made engines for everything, from tanks and Zepplins, to aircraft and ships. Eventually they started making uber-luxury cars, but once WW2 started, they stopped making cars for decades.

Eventually Mercedes tried reviving the brand in the early 2000s, and while the Maybach name still carried a LOT of prestige, very few were sold. Instead, potential buyers opted for the usual Rolls-Royces and Bentleys cuz they were just...better...in every way 😅.
.
Again, the brand was killed off for a few years and then revived back in 2015, when Mercedes decided to use the Maybach name for its super-luxurious versions of its already-luxurious cars. These Maybachs are based on the Mercedes S-Class, but those are for peasants, so these cars come with a much longer wheelbase, giving occupants LOADS of space which they don't really need lol.

While there are two engine options available, powering this one is the common 4-litre V8 engine taken from the high-performance Mercedes-AMG cars, and it makes 463HP. Here's a 🌟fun fact🌟: the 'base-model' Maybachs are assembled in Pune, Maharashtra, making India the second country to ever build a Maybach, apart from Germany! 🎉Just goes to show how common these are becoming now.

There isn't much to say about this car, it's fast, has nice seats blah blah blah. I preferred Maybachs when they weren't just a badge on an S-Class.

So what do you all think of the New Bronco/Qué opinan del Nuevo Bronco!?
•
Introduced in 1966 as a competitor to the Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout, the first generation Bronco was sold until 1977. The first gen was built in the US and Venezuela and offered as a three-door wagon, a roadster or a pickup with engines starting from a 2.8L straight-six to a 4.9L V8. Over the last few years the prices of these have began skyrocketing! Over five generations of the Bronco were produced from 1966 to 1996. A white, late-gen Bronco became infamous because of the police chase in which O.J. Simpson was involved. The last Bronco was built in 1996 in Venezuela and was eventually replaced by the Expedition
