  • #moneymoves Listen. Whether you make $20K or $200K a year, #moneymanagement is key. It doesn’t make your situation any better to make more, if your spending is equal to your income. There are plenty of people who earn large salaries, but this is not reflected in their financial situation because of their #spending habits. This is common but easy to fix. Track your spending & set some goals. Develop a #budget and execute it. Check your progress and make needed adjustments. .
.
.
YES, you need to make more money. But that doesn’t mean that you should adjust your spending to match.
.
.
How have you adjusted your spending in the past to better serve your household? If you haven’t yet, what are some possible changes you could make that would help you to see more of your hard earned money?

  • Friday will be here before we know it and we will be paying bills all over again; however, I know with Friday comes selfcare Saturday and I look forward to taking a little time for ME. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To make sure I am able to do something for ME, I include ME in my Mommy Bill Budget. When I complete my Mommy Budget for the month, I budget for bills, household expenses, savings goals, my babies, and everything in between. So I started including ME by giving myself an "allowance" to do whatever I want to do with it. By doing this, I don't feel guilty or feel like I'm taking away from my babies/household. With my Mommy Money, I put some into my Mommy Savings account for Mommy weekends and the remainder is for me to do me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Take some time today and get your Mommy Bill Budget done using your how to guide. You can get the guide by clicking the link in my bio. Mommy Bill Budgeting is another way you tap into your Purse PowHER.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • Paying off credit cards feels a lot like when you get a 96 on an exam and your grade in the class goes up by 1.5% but then when you get an 83 on an exam all of a sudden your grade in the class goes down like 20% lol⁣
⁣
Here are some general rules to ALWAYS remember when it comes to healthy credit card use:⁣
⁣
▪️ Keep your utilization rate under 30% of your credit limit⁣
▪️ Pay your statement balance in full⁣
▪️ Ask for a credit limit increase once a year if you're in GOOD financial standing⁣
▪️ If you realllyyy need to put a LOT on a credit card, get a card with a LOW APR (aka charges low interest rates) or split it in between two cards. ⁣
▪️ Do not apply for too many credit cards at the same time⁣
▪️ The more credit lines and longer history you have, the higher your score will be⁣
⁣
Side note: Would you guys want a detailed blog post on how to increase your credit score/good credit card practices and tips in general?? Let me know!!🤗⁣

  • With students returning to colleges and universities soon, it’s important to ensure the students in your life understand how to access their school’s Student Emergency Fund if necessary due to the current state of the economy.⁣
⁣
Here are a few key items that you and your student should keep in your back pocket:⁣
⁣
→ Where should they go to receive these funds? Is there an online application or do they have to go to a specific office and fill out a paper form?⁣
→ Is your student eligible for the fund?⁣
→ What does the fund cover? Are there any exceptions to this due to COVID-19?⁣
→ What is the maximum amount of money they can receive from the fund?⁣
→ How long does it take to receive the funds?⁣
⁣
Having these answers in your back pocket will be critical if an emergency arises! 💰 #MillennialFinancialSolutions

Sometime you gotta step back and smell your own roses 🌹. Big or small what have you accomplished in 2020?

•I’ll let Snoop take it away, with one of my fav acceptance speeches of all-time (btw this was after thanking a bunch of other people).

“I want to thank me for believing in me,
I want to thank me for doing all this hard work.
I wanna thank me for having no days off.
I wanna thank me for never quitting.
I wanna thank me for always been a giver and trying to give more than I receive.
I want to thank me for trying to do more right than wrong.
I want to thank me for just being me at all times.”

  • If I give you $1 million right now, what would you do?

I don’t know exactly what I would do, but I do know exactly what I wouldn’t do. I’m wouldn’t buy a Lamborghini, Louis Vuitton belt, Gucci shoes, penthouse, or mansion. None of that.

I would do something along the lines of investing, retiring my parents, helping out my family, and buy some gear to start a youtube channel which would be the only thing I would buy for myself of that $1 million.

  • Raise your hand if you've ever avoided investing in yourself because you didn't feel like you could afford it...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🙋🏻‍♀️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm guessing we've all been there at some point. I did exactly that with my business! For years I only invested in low-priced courses, because I felt like investing in coaching was too expensive.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But here's what happened. I spent MORE on a bunch of courses than I did on a business coach, and they moved the needle LESS.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It wasn't until I hired a business coach that I finally saw progress.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Investing in a money coach can seem counterproductive. After all, if you are already struggling with your finances, how the hell are you supposed to afford a coach?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I totally get it! Investing in yourself can be scary. But next time you find yourself saying you can't afford to invest in yourself, try instead to ask yourself HOW you can afford it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because I promise that whether it's business coaching or money coaching, going all-in will move the needle more than free articles, low-priced courses, and DIY ever will.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Leave me a comment and let me know if YOU have ever considered investing in a money coach!

  • Answer: everyone but you (and your family).

This isn’t to be a downer, nearly everyone has dealt with credit card debt at some point in their lives. But all too often, we are tricked into believing that paying credit card interest is nothing more than a minor inconvenience- and that it’s between us and the bank.

That MIGHT be true if virtually every institution around us wasn’t trying to separate us from our money, but they are. So when you carry credit card debt you’re sending a lot of messages that work against yourself.

You’re telling businesses you shop at that you’ll pay them now and do the work later (great! For how long?) You’re telling your employer that you NEED this job and you’ll do anything to keep it- because you have bills to pay! That’s not even to mention the government that will wax poetic about “saving you” from the problem that they encourage themselves!

If you have credit card debt, do YOURSELF a favor and pay it down as quickly as possible. I know it’s easier said than done. But do what you can to make it a priority. Because nobody else will remind you to. It’s kind like all of your neighbors stealing your wifi- no one will call the other out because then they lose their benefits too! It’s up to you to shut it down.

  • How I made $10k in 3 days with boring debit spreads.
-
Day 11: 59k, up 1.7k, 941k left to $1M
-
Small trade added today: MMM 2x call debit spread 150/155 exp 9/4 @$2.64
-
The call debit spreads I bought when market tanked on 7/13 and 7/14 have started to pay off big.
I still haven’t close them but they are in the money and it’s just a waiting game now.
-
I find this style of option trading so boring but so worth it.
-
However I cannot stay away from other strategies like buys CALLs. But I will stop doing that and focus only on spreads.
-
This week I have made $10k in 3 days but I waited more than 2 weeks for these trades to show me some profit.
-
If you want to learn more about my trades, DM me.

  • 401(k) is a term that is often thrown around but what is it? (Also, pronounciation is provided by dictionary.com)

401(k) are qualified tax-advatnaged retirement plans offerrd by employers to their employees. Employers may make matching contributions (so get your free money 🤑$$)

Workers can make contributions through payhold withholding and the investment earnings in a traditional 401(k) plan are not taxed until the employee withdraws the money. So... employee contributions reduce their income taxes for the year their made! 💸

Note: there is also a Roth 401(k) plan

Employee contribution limit: $19,500 per year
Total employee/employer contribution limit: $57,000 or 100% of employee compensation whichever is lower
Contribution limits are different for those 50 and over

.

Do you have a 401(k) plan? If so, what’s your favorite thing about it! 🤔

  • Working with a financial counselor and coach is supposed to feel GOOD! ⠀
⠀
Some personal finance experts assume they know everything about you before they've even met you. Or they have a cookie-cutter program that they use with every single client assuming what worked for them will work for you -- WRONG.⠀
⠀
I'm a former lawyer, so my answer to every question is always IT DEPENDS. ⠀
⠀
Same applies to your personal financial situation, the best solution depends not only on your circumstances/numbers but your personality and values. Those things are just as important as interest rates and income in crafting the best strategy.⠀
⠀
So find a financial professional that will see the whole you and treat you with compassion. ⠀

The best personal finance solution is as unique as you!⠀

  • The ability to learn how to apportion your income to accommodate things that are targeted towards financial freedom can not be overemphasized.
—————————————
Joke earns N150,000 monthly and saves N40,000 is in better place financially than Sandra that earns N400,000 monthly and saves only N30,000.
—————————————
The things we indulge in forms our spending habits and determine how healthy we are financially.
—————————————
My question for you is can you identify your spending patterns and track what you spend on your money on.

Are they needs or wants? Are they spendings for building wealth?

  • Let me tell you guys about Elevate Influencer 💫 I was supposed to be getting ready to head back to DC to attend in person next week, but the 3-day event is now 100% virtual. Day 1 is completely free to the public (Thanks to our wonderful sponsor @themotleyfoolofficial) and topics will be related to race and money including the historical context of institutionalized racism and money. If you’ve ever had questions about the racial wealth gap or the unique challenges faced by individuals of color, I’d highly recommend checking out the link in my bio to reserve your spot OR just head to elevateworkshops.com. Also, if you’re a financial blogger or influencer of color days 2 + 3 will be extremely valuable to you!

  • Good morning, today I would like to talk about how COVID has affected our budget. Since schools have been closed and some shops have closed and reopened and closed back up again this is bound to affect our finances one way or another. ⁣
⁣
Gas/Fuel ⬇️-Our gas budget has decreased significantly. Do you know how many times a month I pump gas now? Once.A.Month. I used to pump gas weekly due to school drop-offs/pick-ups, running errands, out of town trips, and taking the kids to their extracurricular activities.⁣
⁣
Groceries ⬆️-I did my best not to panic-buy buuuut since we are doing our best to stay home I now cook breakfast, lunch, dinner, and prepare snacks pretty much daily. I also try to keep my pantry stocked with items that have a longer shelf life so that I don’t have to keep running back and forth to the store. ⁣
⁣
Dining Out ⬇️-Since I am doing most of the cooking at home our dining out budget has decreased. We are saving money by limiting the amount we spend on dining out (Example: $120 every two weeks) and only dine out on the weekends so it gives us something to look forward to.⁣
⁣
I could go on and on 😂 but it’s your turn. How has COVID affected your budget?

I moved into the most comfy space with lots of natural light and a big balcony this Saturday 😍

Since, I’ve been embodying my real grown woman ish, checking things off my move-in checklist and I noticed something.

𝙄’𝙫𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 $1,000 𝙞𝙣 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮 🤯

Just because I made having a good credit score a priority 🧠

If I didn’t have a good credit score, I would’ve had to pay an additional $800+ to move into my place and pay a deposit of anywhere from ($100-$300) on all my utility bills 🥴

Some may think that ain’t worthy of a celebration.

But dude, when you watched your parents 𝘴 𝘵 𝘳 𝘶 𝘨 𝘨 𝘭 𝘦 to get approved for literally anything or wasting thousands of dollars on deposits and interest payments growing up…

And you saw how much stress it put on them, their relationship, and our family and how it all still impacts them today…

You can’t tell me not to do my happy dance 🕺🏽 and 𝓫𝓻𝓪𝓰 about it.

This is the #1 reason I started building my credit and learning about finances as early as I did.

⚡ Definitely not giving up my hard-earned coin to pay a deposit to a billion-dollar utility company (moving is already pricey enough!)

⚡ I want all the negotiating power that comes with it (even though I was getting ready to negotiate my electricity deposit anyway 💁🏽‍♀️)!

That’s only 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 of the privileges that come with building your credit score asap and doing it the right way which is why I talk about it, educate on it, and celebrate around it so much.

Credit doesn’t have to be intimidating or boring. It actually gets to be hella fun and rewarding as you can see 💸

Click in the link in my bio to read my new blog post on the 3 essential bank accounts every college students needs to 1) save mo’ money 2) make mo’ money 3) build mo’ credit 😉

What is your motivation for having good credit? 😋 If you don’t have one yet, what is a goal that will motivate you enough to start building it today?

If I talk to you about your finances, a 529 account for your child(ren), buying a home, your savings, eliminating debt, paying off student loans. I am bringing up uncomfortable situations to uplift you and it’s coming from a place of love❤️. Ignore but, don’t ridicule. I am not part of an MLM, Forex, not a FLOWER blossom sou-sou scam. I have a city job with employee benefits that are my investing vehicles.

  • You all want to know something else I’ve done to simplify my finances during my debt free journey? I learned it from my years in the construction industry👷🏾‍♀️… it is called front loading.
*
*
Front loading is an attempt to bill for upfront project costs towards the beginning of a job in order to offset any potential for negative impacts to #cashflow throughout the project. That was a mouthful but here’s the quick and dirty...
*
*
Move as many of your recurring monthly bills to the beginning or end of the month (depending on your pay cycles) so that you have most of the month to focus on planning/mapping/saving your finances. It alleviates the mental stress of having bills withdrawn every single week.
*
*
It may take a few months to restructure your finances to make this work out. For instance, you may have to build a reserve of one months’ worth of expenses while pay dates are switched, but it is worth the effort.
*
*
Doing so has given me so much mental clarity month to month. As a matter of fact, I only have 2 bills left this month (auto-payments that I haven’t yet change - worth $50)😄😄😄.
*
*
Sharing this to say #financialpeace is possible before, during, and after your debt free journey. Front loading your bills with a few tweaks brings some peace to your finances💫😌.

  • Them: Ashley, what have you been doing since becoming debt-free?

Me: Budgeting🧮, minding the business that pays me👷🏾‍♀️and beaching! ⛱☀️.
*
*
I’m so happy that I have family that lives so close to the beach. I was able to easily sneak away to the coastline last weekend and didn’t have to break the bank or do any crazy planning in advance to pay a visit.
*
*
Of course not everyone has this privilege but for those who do have the opportunity to get out and enjoy the outdoors (trails, state parks, lakes, etc) I encourage you to do so!!! They’re usually very economical to enjoy and you’d be amazed at what lies just beyond your local community boundaries.
*
*
I’m so happy I got some Vitamin D this weekend. I’m already plotting on the next road trip. Anyone else tired of sitting in the house and have found some safe alternatives to enjoying life amidst life’s current uncertainties?
*
*
P.S - I’ve tracked 13 #NoBuyJuly days so far😎! I’ve paid most of my bills off during the first few weeks this month. I’m literally coasting until my birthday in less than two weeks!!! (8/3) It’s LEO SEASON BABY!🦁♌️

  • The hidden costs of buying a home...
.
There are a number of costs that you’ll need to consider on top of the deposit amount that you’ve saved. Not all of these will be applicable to every buyer, but worth taking note of!
.
Conveyancing fees- conveyancing is the legal process of buying a property. Fees generally range from £850-£1500, but vary depending the value of your home.
.
Surveys- these check the condition of the house before you buy it. Typically ranges from £400-£1000+
.
Mortgage valuation- some lenders don’t charge this fee, but if they do it’s around £200-300.
.
Mortgage arrangement fees- can be from £100 to 1% of the property price. Some lenders add this to the mortgage, others will insist you pay this upfront.
.
Mortgage broker fees- thankfully, you can get fee-free brokers, but others will charge up to 1% of your mortgage.
.
I’d love to hear what fees you had to pay if you’ve gone through the process yourself! 👇

Some lenders add this to the mortgage, others will insist you pay this upfront.
    .
Mortgage broker fees- thankfully, you can get fee-free brokers, but others will charge up to 1% of your mortgage.
    .

  • Why do I have 2 checking accounts? 🤔 ⁣
⁣
You all ask this ALL THE TIME so here I am to give the people what they want. ⁣
⁣
The answer is I opened a second checking account because I wanted to use the ATM near my apartment. That’s not that fun. What’s a better discussion is why I LOVE that I have 2 checking accounts now! ⁣
⁣
I now use one of my checking accounts just for rent. Each of my paychecks, half of my rent goes in there. The rest goes into what I call my spending checking account. Since I get paid twice a month, between my two paychecks I get a full month’s rent in my rent checking account, which I use to pay rent then repeat the process. ⁣
⁣
The real reason I love this is because then my spending checking account is just left for spending, and I don’t need to keep any extra buffer “just in case” for rent. ⁣
⁣
I keep NO MORE than $1500 in my spending checking account. The day after I get paid, I pay off all my credit cards and then see how much I have left in the account. If it is any more than $1500 I automatically transfer it out to savings. If my side hustles bring me above that amount throughout the month, I do the same thing. ⁣
⁣
Through this process, I’m transferring more and more money to savings and taking control. I’m not waiting for the end of the month to see how much I have left. I’m proactively taking it out so that as I get close to my paycheck I start to run out of money which forces me to cut back on my spending. It’s all mind games 🙃

  • Rather be rich than right 🤪⁣
⁣
‘Market crash is coming! Sell now and buy back in at the bottom of the dip!’⁣
⁣
Blah blah blah 😴⁣
⁣
People have been saying that for years, maybe this time they’ll be right?⁣
⁣
‘This time it’s different’⁣
⁣
The most dangerous words in investing!⁣
⁣
Stop trying to time the market. It’s a dumb strategy and if there was even a slight chance of being able to do it, everyone would know about it and you’d no longer have an edge.⁣

  • 💳 swiper do not stop swiping ⁣
⁣
I use my credit card for EVERYTHING I can. Why would I not want more points? ⁣
⁣
“Well DaVe RaMsEy says credit cards are bad.” Okay well first ignore him. ⁣
⁣
If you currently don’t have any credit card debt, using a credit card can be an awesome tool! ⁣
⁣
First off, THE POINTS! In 2019 I got 5 free round trip flights from points and had plenty to spare. By the time I’m comfortable flying again I’m going to be able to go where ever I want for free. Who’s going with me :) 🛫⁣
⁣
Second, it can help you build your credit score up. For some reason everyone thinks I’m anti buying a house because I like to tell people to do research before assuming buying a house is a good investment (GOD FORBID SOMEONE RESEARCH A MULTIPLE HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR INVESTMENT). Sorry that’s a tangent. But if/when you decide you want to buy a house, having good credit will help you get better rates. ⁣
⁣
The longer you’ve had your credit card open, then better your credit score will be assuming you pay it off in full every month. So don’t wait! ⁣
⁣
I personally pay off my credit cards every time they get above $200. There’s some rumors out there that by not paying it off in full sometimes you help your credit score but NOPE! False. Paying it off once a month is just as good but ya know I am extra and want my balance at 0. ⁣
⁣
I also don’t mind having an annual fee on one of my cards. I have the @chase Sapphire Reserve as my travel card with an annual fee but the math makes sense for me. After all the benefits and points it’s definitely worth it. ⁣
⁣
Remember though, credit card DEBT is the enemy. It’s all of us vs credit card debt. We do everything we can to pay off our cards IN 👏🏻 FULL 👏🏻 every month!
