  • SELF CARE 🥰
.
This account is so important to me. Every week I put aside a small portion of my pay that is solely dedicated to self care. This account is separate to my splurge money and goes towards anything that makes me “feel good”.
.
Self care is different for everybody, but some of the things this money goes towards include my meditation subscription, massages, hair, yoga class, pedicures. All things that help to lighten my spirits.
.
Today I treated myself to an aromatherapy massage and it was delightful! Even better that I didn’t need to feel guilty for spending my money. ❤️

  • Chicken burgers 🍔 (vegetarian for me) and chips 🍟 for dinner, *with extra extra sides of haloumi & garlic bread 😂

We were really tempted for takeaway on this cold wet Monday but we just cooked up what was in the fridge and freezer and everyone is full & happy! (And were around $50 richer not by getting takeaway 🎉😜)
Bit carbed up lol, oh well!

Good evening guys! I hope y’all have a great week! I’ve been feeling super uninspired to post for the last 3-4 weeks due to COVID and what’s happening around the world. I am slowly picking it up again.
I’d like to share with you all a post about how I saved almost $5000 last year by doing these 5 things religiously. I hope it can inspire you to save and build wealth too! And I don’t make any money from any of my blog posts or blog. I use it as a platform to hold myself accountable and remind myself of how I am building wealth in my own ways. I hope it can inspire you as well! So I’d love your support ☺️ thank you !

  • I know I talk about groceries a lot but that’s because it is the category where our spending habits have changed the most. We’ve gone from buying name brands we were familiar with to trying cheaper alternatives for everything we buy 🛒 We regularly buy the products above because we haven’t noticed a difference in quality 🙌🏼 If you’re trying to cut down your spending on groceries it’s definitely worth trying out cheaper brands & seeing if you notice any difference 💰

  • New blog post! "Hopefully this post will be "of its time" and age very badly. With luck we can all look back at this post in the future and have a good laugh at me because none of these things came to pass.

Unfortunately, I think there will be some negative long-term repercussions from all of this - whether it's things on this list or not. I think it's silly to think that it'll all be rainbows and kittens after this ends."

These are the things I hope Covid-19 doesn't have a lasting impact on.

  • July was the first month on the new salary so I did allow myself a couple of treats, but will be cutting down going forward (fridge is full with batch cooked soup and chilli so off to a good start!). Have been revising a few financial goals which I’ll get around to sharing too. ⁣
⁣
Some notes: ⁣
⁣
- We’ve started buying a few extra tins of food to donate to the local food pantry. It’s not tax deductible but we support this local initiative as we like the way it runs (hardly any admin costs, it’s give what you want / take what you want, no questions asked) and there definitely is a need for it. ⁣
- The monthly investment is to a managed fund but I’m thinking of exiting as the fees are relatively high and the performance is somewhat below benchmark. Will post on this later once I get around to it (may wait for the annual report to make a call). ⁣
- Having internet issues lately (could be my new job’s VPN? Not sure) so spent jointly on new modems / wifi mesh boosters to fix it. ⁣
- Impulsively went to get a haircut when I had a free Saturday afternoon; many of the local hairdressers were booked out so went for one that had an available spot. I normally don’t spend this much but hair was getting ratty (first haircut this year) and have been needing to appear on a few more video calls so YOLO’d it. Happy with the chop though (and enjoyed the pampering)! ⁣
⁣
Anything you want to drill down on? Let me know in the comments! ⁣

  • I purchased these @aldiaustralia native flowers almost 3 weeks ago, with the intention of drying them. Well these still look as good as the day I bought them and I never got around to drying them! They were a little more expensive ($15 a bunch) then the usual flowers Aldi has but so much prettier! Any advice on drying flowers?! I’m going to attempt to do it this week 💐

  • We don’t earn a big chunk of money, even though we can practice the extreme frugality, we won’t get to FI in only a few years.

Fortunately, we now both enjoy our job, and we always live below our means.
We just take it slow, step by step, gradually, I know we’ll reach the destination. 💛🧡💪

  • So my new job is working for a non-profit organization, they’ve got the salary package benefit as FBT for the staff.

•I’ll max out my benefit as pay extra tax-free $993 towards our mortgage every fortnightly till next March.
•We still pay our normal monthly $1800 repay.
•We’ll save rest of the take home pay and see how it goes.

I feel blessed with this opportunity to get most from my salary.🧡🧡🧡

  • The cost of breastfeeding (a full-time salary!) has been on my mind during #InternationalBreastfeedingWeek. My little mouse laughing is a small way to justify that financial loss... but even despite that, dollar dollars for our effort would be better. Women who work, breastfeed and baby rear are badass and I salute you 🖖🏼

  • banking with ING vs UP
i have accounts with both. i love the way UP is set up so decided to pass my savings into that bank $10,000. same amount, reached both bonus interest rates & this is the difference in monthly interest! whilst it is a month between, it’s quite a difference for the same amount .. here’s what i think —
UP:
i love up, i love how it’s set up & how it gives you % & goals to work towards with as many accounts as needed.
but the interest is not as good as ING, even when reaching the bonus 1.60% through spending.
ING:
i joined ing for the interest rate years back, it’s just like any normal bank setup, hardly any pros or cons .. breaks even as a bank type. good interest rate still beats UP, i use it as my main bank so i always reach the bonus interest through spending.

overall, i decided to put the savings back into my ING account to get the few extra dollars of interest, i’ll stay with ING for my savings account as i don’t plan on building it further just yet ..
i still have an UP account & am using it to track my holiday account & house deposit as i’m loving the way it’s set up to save!
that’s my thoughts on both the popular banks!

  • Well this post was meant to be regarding my house settling today but it’s been postponed due to the vendors solicitor not having everything ready on time 😭

So here is another small milestone instead, I have finally paid off all my afterpay and deleted the app! Now to save for my personal “debt-free afterpay”, I spoke about this in my sinking funds post

  • My tax refund has finally hit my account!
I thought I would share with you all how I’m using this money 💰✨
$1400 - car loan
$1000 - credit card
$100 - pet sinking fund
$100 - medical sinking fund
$100 - rainy day
$100 - long term savings
$14.56 - $1000 project
.
Do you plan what you’re going to do with your return before you get it? I need to have a clear idea what I want to use it for before it hits my account, otherwise I get too excited about a large sum of money sitting there 😅
.
Happy Monday ✌🏼

Thank you all so much for following my journey and being my biggest motivators.
When I created this account, I did so to track my progress and hold myself accountable for my decisions and did not expect to have so many people along for the ride. Beyond grateful!
Here’s to more money & household tips in the future. I hope that I can help motivate you to achieve your goals as well 😊💰✨

  • Hey friends 👋🏽 In the next week I’ll be back into the swing of things. Last time we spoke I was tossing up between jobs. I intended on taking the part time retail job but it was wasn’t as great as it first seemed. I’ve taken the data job and it’s amazing. My boss is so flexible and chill and the hours work great for me.
My goal is to stick to this savings sheet by @shesonthemoneyaus
I haven’t set a time limit on it just yet so stay tuned!

  • 2 weeks into the month and smashed one of my goals!
Yesterday I processed the final payment on my car loan and I’m honestly so stoked on life.
It’s so freeing not having to worry about this debt anymore and the biggest bonus is that my total debt is now under $10k 🤑

  • It is seriously surprising 1) how much fits into one bedroom and walk in robe and 2) how much fits into my tiny hatch back. We spent Saturday moving all of our things into our new place - and then stayed up until after midnight organising and cleaning. I already feel so much calmer in my own space with T rather than a house full of people. Sunday we spent going between Kmart x 2, Coles, Aldi and Woolworths to get pantry items and some other things we needed. But the shops were pretty bare and we still don’t have a laundry basket or bins 🙊

  • “You have food (and drinks) at home” - Something I am going to be telling myself even more next year. I love the convenience of cafes and fast food - but realistically this took me 2 minutes to put together, tastes the same and probably has a lot less sugar/additives than syrups etc used in other places. It would have cost me $5+ to buy but I always have coffee and milk in the house anyway. Now to hold myself to it. ✨

  • Since turning 18 I have spent a LOT of money on music festivals and events - I couldn’t even tell you how many I’ve been to, including 3 days at Ultra in Europe, a 2 day festival in Jakarta (Indo) and probably 3-5 every year in Aus. (And drinks there ain’t cheap.. $13 for a vodka) Sometimes I think it’s too expensive, so I just buy the ticket and worry about it later, I always end up having such a good time because it’s really the only time that my friends all will be 100% down to do something together. We have so many amazing memories, that I wouldn’t change it for the world and will continue spending on festivals until I’m only and grey (okay maybe not that long - but you get what I’m saying) 🌿 Sometimes I get too caught up in the cost of things and forget how much joy they bring me - so a reminder to myself and you guys, if it brings you joy - spend the money, it’s okay! ✨
