  • 29th March..A wk after I became symptomatic with covid_19...my first night in hospital, my breathing was getting worse. At this point I was struggling to maintain normal oxygen levels with 40% oxygen support. My lungs were seriously infected with signs of covid pneumonia. It was still very early in the pandemic and there was very Little information about this virus. I was tired, anxious and worried. I was feeling very frightened for myself and my family.
Looking back, I don't actually remember much about the first night and day after..only that an amazing nurse was encouraging me to eat and actually fed me some dinner.
Little did I know what was to follow in the days and weeks to come...

What was your covid_19 experience?

  • I’ve been a bit MIA on here over the past two days because i’m trying to rebuild my website. 👆🏻

& I’ve been going round in circles... 😤

Does anybody have experience with website building on WordPress.org...?

I’m currently using Divy builder, which is supposed to be the best on the market 🙄 but it’s not integrating across web / tablet / mobile...

Any recommendations for builders on WordPress.org much appreciated because i’m rapidly losing patience with it 🤬

  • Today @thelewisfoundation delivered gifts to Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust & Kettering General Hospital so that adults going through cancer treatment have something to help pass the time & items to provide comfort during treatment.

Helping to still provide support from a distance whilst visiting restrictions apply.

  • Who's avoiding, delaying or skipping their smear test (cervical screening) because of 'embarrassment'?

Thoughts during my smear appointment...

1. Does it look "normal"?
2. Does it smell?
3. How will my natural/shaved/waxed "look" be perceived/judged?
4. Am I a bit "wet"? Oh god
5. Dont fart!

This quick test checks the health of your cervix and can help prevent cancer. Worth a little embarrassment? YES

Results take 2-4 weeks.

Check your local surgery to find out about appointments during covid.

Emilia is featured in @amateuradam's new book 'Dear NHS: 100 Stories to Say Thank You'.

Some wonderful people have come together to share their stories of how the national health service has been there for them, and changed their lives in the process. By turns deeply moving, hilarious, hopeful and impassioned, these stories together become a love letter to the NHS and the 1.4 million people who go above and beyond the call of duty every single day - selflessly, generously, putting others before themselves, never more so than now.

If you fancy buying a copy of this book, all profits will go to NHS Charities Together to fund vital research and projects, and The Lullaby Trust which supports parents bereaved of babies and young children. Link in our bio ⬆️

  • Getting into medical school was not a linear process. I wasn’t the straight A student growing up and many didn’t think I would get here. Instead, I spent countless hours, days and nights, working my absolute hardest throughout my undergrad, balancing my final year with UCAT practice, personal statement writing, interview prep and a part-time job.

When it seems like you have tried your best and giving up is the easier option, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage and reassure you on your journey... and say that being given the right to wear that stethoscope on your shoulders, is even sweeter than Istanbul’s finest baklava!

  • “Oh, screw beautiful. I’m brilliant. If you want to appease me, compliment my brain.” ~ Christina Yang

I’ve really loved being Editor of Medical Woman magazine with @medicalwomenuk over the last few years! That’s why I’m so excited about the next issue!

In every issue of Medical Woman we feature a career story for medical students and doctors in training to help find their area of expertise.

We’ve been lucky enough to cover psychiatry, public health, neurology (of course!), plastic surgery, and ophthalmology (eye doctors) - as in the photo!

So, what’s next? I’d love to feature your area of interest, interested? Go ahead and message me!

Hi everyone,
⠀
Hope you’re well.
⠀
I love engaging with everyone, whether it be through these posts, my stories, IG Lives or via DMs (apologies if you’ve sent one previously and I haven’t yet replied - I am slowly but surely getting through all my messages!).
⠀
As a result, with quite a few new followers recently (thank you to everyone, ‘new’ and ‘old’ for all your support!), I thought it would be nice to find out a little more about you, so I can know more about who views/reads my posts, cater my content accordingly, and just learn a bit more about everyone who visits my page!
⠀
The photo above is from my wedding registry, taken in 2012, just a few weeks after our traditional wedding. ❤️
⠀
As some of you may know, I’m from Bristol (born, brought up and proud! 😁), and live here currently, although I lived in London for six years whilst at Medical School between 2001 and 2007, and two years in Abu Dhabi between 2015-2017, when I was a Medical Director and Family Medicine Consultant at a clinic I helped to establish.
⠀
I’ve been a doctor since 2007 (13 years), a GP since 2012 (8 years) and have worked in the NHS, in the private sector and in digital health, as well as internationally.
⠀
I’m married to an amazing wife and have three beautiful children (two daughters and one son) - aged 6, almost 3 and 1. ❤️
⠀
I love learning new things, exploring new cultures, travelling, eating out, am a big sports fan and a huge, dedicated and passionate Liverpool FC supporter. ⚽️
⠀
How about you?
⠀
Where are you from? Do you have any children? What interests and hobbies do you have?
⠀
Please feel free to tell me a bit about yourself - would love to find out more! 😊

  • 7 years ago today I walked to the end of the Brighton Palace Pier digesting the news that I had been diagnosed with Lymphoma... the furthest you can get is the end of this ride so I walked up the steps to look out to the sea and have a few minutes staring at tranquility.... moments later a flume came crashing down and I was soaked from head to toe fully supporting the idea that it never rains, it pours (slightly ironic in the 30 degree heat that day 😂).

A lot has changed for and around me in 7 years but, as I was reminded yesterday, the one constant is the unwavering reliability of the NHS and the amazing work of each and every person who works under the NHS umbrella. It’s a life long journey once you’ve had cancer - you think it’s over when the treatment ends but it is just the beginning. I am so lucky to have these memories and to have a second chance at life (even with all the curveballs having had lymphoma throws at me).

So this is a thank you to the NHS heroes for continuing to do an incredible job and here’s to living life to the fullest. Whilst 2020 hasn’t been a vintage year, it most certainly hasn’t been my worst 😎

  • Smile through the pain. This was one of the toughest months of my life. I lost my voice for over 6 months. After months of googling and trying home remedies, I decided to go to the GP. I know I should have went earlier. I’m just don’t like going to the doctors, the vibes and energy at hospitals freak me out. Got an endoscopy done where they put a camera through my nose to see the vocal cords. I saw the polyp that was formed on my voice box. Scary stuff for sure. I had to then wait for a month to have this polyp removed. I went into the hospital on that day, you’re given a gown and told to wait in a bed until you’re called. The wait can be anywhere between 30 mins to hours. I realised how stretched our NHS was but I’m so grateful for the system we have in the UK. I was called in the afternoon to the operating room. I was under general anaesthesia for a few hours so that the doctors can operate. With my family out of the country, I’m so thankful and will never forget the one that was with me and supported me through this. I saw this setback as wake up call to look after my health and not take things for granted. Pay attention to your body and be wary of what you put in it. That was also the end of my social smoking, never touched a cigarette after this. I can’t thank the NHS and the doctors enough.
