  • Give me clean water and a clear conscience and I will live a free man. Wells Gray Provincial Park is a beautiful place full of healing waters. We took a detour just to make sure we witnessed the power of Helmcken Falls. Canada’s 5th largest waterfall. The photo was the goal but the journey as usual is what it’s all about. I have so many photos to choose from and I chose this one because it was the best balance of water, trees, and perspective. Really looking forward to adding this to my online gallery and getting one on acrylic nice and big on my wall. All my landscape photos are taken on my canon 5dsr so the files are as big as can possibly be so they can support high quality enlargements. Thanks for all the support everyone and @appetite_for_beauty for always putting up with my crazy photo mode I can get into.

  • My life is a moving, breathing ritual. I am the Magician. I honor the Earth, I honor life itself. I honor the love and wisdom stored inside my soul and open up the doors for magic to unfold. Magic is the birthright of every human being. 
How can you make everyday mundane tasks a ritual and infuse your day with more magic? Some things I include:

  • What are you doing to create peaceful moments? Moments to just breathe and simply be still - and maybe take in the exquisite beauty of a butterfly 🦋 pollinating the flowers of an abelia bush. 

Now more than ever, we need to take time to shut out all the noise and chaos. Take long, deep cleansing breaths, immerse ourselves at every opportunity in things that bring us deep joy and gratitude, smile, laugh, and flood our bodies with big doses of dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins which are healing and stabilizing. 

Many times we go throughout our day thinking that we are handling all the noise just fine, but in reality, our nervous systems are NOT handling it. It’s taking a toll. I’ve experienced this false sense of security, only to have a panic attack hit me out of nowhere - usually when I think I’m relaxing. So, consciously creating these moments and spaces to preserve our inner peace and to elevate our mood is vital to our physical and mental health. 

So, plan today to incorporate a peaceful, safe and fun space for yourself. 

Remember when we were kids how we would just go outside and PLAY? Do that! 

Go outside and explore. 

One day, a squirrel let me sit close to him for a few minutes as he ate from our ground feeder and was busy burying seeds. Cutest thing ever!

We spent a few weeks this summer helping a mama Eastern Phoebe keep her babies safe from several snakes. All three babies successfully left the nest! (And, the snakes were safely relocated, too.)

The curious thing about the baby birds leaving the nest.....the first sibling left one morning before the other two. The other two stayed back all day just relaxing and enjoying more room in the nest. 🤣 Later that evening, it wasn’t the mother who came back for them.....it was their sibling. (Swipe to see photo of all three the day before.🥰)

What a beautiful moment...the amazing communication between them and how the other two finally followed and then they all met their mother in a nearby tree and flew away. 😭💕

It’s often said that nature is healing. It can make you stop everything and just quietly observe - even your inner self.

  • I love this image. It makes me think of the word “silence.” And the moment I first realized what a wonderful gift silence is. 

I was on vacation in Hawaii and scuba diving for the first time. To say I was nervous going into the sea with all my diving gear on is an understatement. That is until I reached the sandy ocean bottom and looked back up towards the surface...to the world “out there.” I was instantly struck by how incredibly quiet it was “down here.”

How blissfully quiet. And how calm that silence made me feel. It was a magical moment. One that’s stayed with me through the years. As has my need to seek out solitude whenever I’m feeling overstimulated.

When the noise of the world starts to overwhelm me, I know exactly what I need to do. I turn off the tv, radio, phone and computer, and seek a quiet space. My room, my outdoor garden, a meditative walk in the forest or by the sea.

As an HSP (highly sensitive person) who grew up with a large, loud family and parents who fought a lot, I now understand how off-balance too much noise makes me feel. And how much I crave solitude. It calms my nervous system, my body and my spirit. It also helps me connect with my intuition, creativity and ultimately with my soul. 

In a world where we’re encouraged to be productive all the time — to go, go, go and do, do, do — taking time out for solitude can be difficult to do. But the benefits are worth it. Solitude is one of the best gifts you can give yourself when you feel depleted, anxious or overstimulated. Silence helps restore you. It helps you re-connect to YOU. To that still small voice within you that’s trying to get your attention. That’s trying to tell you what your soul really needs and wants, in order to be happy. And to feel whole.

So if the idea of being in silence seems strange to you, I challenge you to try. For just a few moments today, try sitting or walking or even driving in silence. And see what happens. Allow whatever comes to you, to come. A word, a phrase, a feeling, a desire, a longing, a need you may have ignored. Or perhaps the pure pleasure of being in the space of silence for just a little while.

Rồi chúng tôi vươn mình, hít tràn lồng ngực kẻo lỡ phần khí ngon ngọt tuyệt hảo ấy. Những khoảnh khắc này, thầm lặng để lại trong chúng tôi thứ hạnh phúc nhỏ bé được hoà mình vào tự nhiên nguyên chất. Cái cảm giác ngây ngất đó, chỉ có đôi mắt và giác quan mới đủ sức ghi hình trọn vẹn.

  • Best friends in a hammock- I can’t think of a better place to plan a trip on a rocket ship! It’s our last week of play-garden days at, The Garden Years. These joy-filled weeks of extended play, discovery, and exploration have been so healing for the children. We’ve worked through the anxiety and awkwardness the children felt after so many confusing weeks of social isolation. Mother Nature truly has been our greatest teacher and healer.   • I think the WHOLE world is in need of a pick me up, don’t you agree? 

I have found that being out in nature is my pick me up. This summer I’ve spent more time outside hiking and exploring new places that are close to home. I pack up my kids and we head out to enjoy nature and disconnect from the tv and devices. 
It also helps to cure my travel bug because, while I am not traveling far, I am traveling, seeing, and experiencing new things and places. 

This may not be your pick me up, but I highly suggest finding something that is. Doing so can help keep you grounded and grateful in a time where everything feels upside down and backwards.
