  • Sometimes the most evasive thing is gratitude: it flies under the radar, and hovers, like it doesn’t know exactly where to land. 
It comes out awkwardly— uncomfortably.

My tight lips and sunglasses signal that the whole time I was just praising God that all my friends back home were safe... It’s one thing to exchange text messages that are essentially, ‘I love you and I’m so glad you’re not dead’...and it’s entirely another to be here...amongst all this destruction that cannot be communicated in pictures. To think about how fragile these castles we all build truly are.

I guess what I’m trying to say is: I love you, I’m really glad you’re not dead, and I hope you hold your people as close as you can, tell them you love them— and pause to watch the sunset as often as possible. ✨
