Today is officially my last day in Calgary for now, but I love Calgary too much to stay away forever. It’s both exhilarating and scary at the same time. Most of you have been with me since inception and to my new followers, thank you and welcome aboard this train ride

To everyone that also participated in helping to select a new name, thanks guys. I feel like my story and journey to come has become much more than just the status as a single mum, hence I will be dropping the single mum persona and adopting something that showcases all I am as a Nigerian woman, immigrant, business owner, mum, employee and so much more. It’s more like a journey to discovering ME.

I also do not want to just add Nunavut in my new @, cos what happens when and if I leave Nunavut. I fully intend to continue to write about Canada through my experiences, sharing my highs and lows.

Stick with me on this next phase and I promise you it can only get better. Looking forward to sharing news of my sister finally joining us, buying my first house, my dream car (tear rubber and tear nylon, chai), getting me that yummy man who will love and cherish me and baby A, Maybe another mini me, stories of friendships, bonds and sisterhoods formed here and most of all, loads of love , joy, blessing and happiness.

I appreciate you all 😘😘🥰🥰 and I introduce to you “My Canadian Diary”

  • This week has been incredibly stressful. Moving out and doing it alone no be beans at. The other nightmare is having to call all your utilities companies to cancel your subscription.

Enmax: No stress at all. Even though I subscribed to a 3 years contract. My subscription was canceled without any fuss or penalty. Even though I called them just this week and changed dates twice.

Virgin: I got a SIM card alongside a Samsung S10. Luckily Virgin has coverage in Nunavut so no issues here. My monthly payment remains unchanged.

Insurance: I had a bundled insurance (car and tenancy) I paid $176 monthly for. I got this cancelled without a fuzz. Also helps that the person that bought my car patronized the broker.

Telus: I am so mad at this company, gosh. So I entered into a 2 years contract for my home wifi. I called to indicate that I would be moving and the agent advised me to get someone else to take over my contract else I will have to pay $15 monthly for the remaining months I have left which is 19 months. I can’t move this particular service because Telus only has coverage in Alberta and BC. I decided to scout for someone willing to take over my contract only to be informed at the point of transfer that whosoever I transfer the contract to has to live in my exact apartment. Meaning I have to cough out $285 for a service I won’t use.

If you can avoid any extended contract especially while settling down biko, do so. You will be saving yourself stress and money

On top all that, I decided to do “ijebu” and clean my apartment prior to move out myself instead of using a cleaning agency that will charge me $150. We have sha moved out and bunking with a friend atm. We are technically homeless at this point. Swipe to see pictures of how I left the apartment

Please who has sugar daddy or zaddy for me, I just wanna relass and be taken Karuf. This hustling ti su mi, e joor.

  • 💜 Courage, the more you feed it the stronger it gets. Sometimes you need a lot, sometimes a little. There are pivotal moments in our life when we have the choice of familiar path or unfamiliar path, courage will kick in with the unfamiliar, taking us down a path of exploration.⁣
⁣
What about when you are needing to have a difficult⁣ conversation, courage kicks in. For me, the time that I jumped off the rock cliff in Maui to the dark pool of water, (I really, really don’t like dark water), big scary things lurk in dark water, courage pushed me off the cliff. Courage is our companion, it moves us forward, it allows curiousity, possibility, and growth to make our lives richer.⁣

  • Visit to Calgary Zoo

Shey you see this one life ehen, I must chop it to the fullest. My friend and I decided to take our girls for a visit to the Calgary Zoo. Based on COVID-19 restrictions, you have to buy tickets online as they are limiting the number of visitors

We got there around 11:30am and by the time we left around 3pm. We were only able to visit the Canadian and African sections of the zoo. That place is massive. Of the two sections we visited, we enjoyed the African bit more. They were more animals, it has the African theme and they tried to mimick that jungle feeling.

One of the white people we encountered on the queue to entering the African section struck up convo with us and asked why we wanted to visit that particular section. I was taken aback and asked her to explain. She said she assumed we would have seen all the animals back in the “motherland”. At her mention of motherland, I couldn’t help but laugh at first cos she came across as being genuine and not trying to pull some racist prank.

There was a stretch with leaves and dividers that seemed creepy. Omo, I carried my daughter sharply, any strange noise or animal sighting like this, a lele, mo ma pick race ni straight. The paths were well labeled, we took some amazing pictures. It’s like the sun in the abroad is different from the one in Nigeria sha. The glow in your pictures hits differently here. I was looking at my pictures like, shey Omo ni o fresh bayi, them just Dey rush us.

There was something funny I saw though, a store called African treats. My interest was piqued and I was expecting Eyin alangba, baba Dudu, kokoro and the rest. Only to reach there and see chips, lollipop and co. I just hissed and waka pass.

  • My friend took us out to dinner at Olive Garden, Calgary, one of the few restaurants open for dine in at the moment and operating a 35% dine in capacity.

The food was great, ambience 💯 and the company most importantly was superb. Lemme tantalize your appetite small. Swipe for more pictures.

The Garlic bread was so Good that we asked for extras and carted it home, lmao. We had to request for take out packs cos after we chop the salad and soup finish there was no space for the main course sef.

  • This is a must do for anyone that has the privilege of visiting Alberta.

After our over sabi waka to Lake Louise and Yoho National park which lead us to BC, we finally doubled back and ended up at Banff National park. I had no idea it was a town on its own, thought it will just be a bunch of mountains and lakes.

We decided to take the Gandola to the top to get a better view of the sights, and boy, it is breathtakingly beautiful. The gandola ride is free for kids under 5, while adults with proof of Alberta issues identification card pay 57CAD.

The ride starts up really fast. I won’t lie, I would never have contemplated such in Nigeria. That’s when someone will have bought fake cable wire just to cut corners. Back to my story, the ride started off a little scary but we soon got comfortable and had a blast. We started off at level 4 which overs a 270 degree view of the park.I was never really big on appreciating nature and all, but I was in awe. Not one single nylon or dirt in sight, just nature untouched.

That’s how we encountered some mountain goats on level 1, and I was just thinking how sweet they will be for asun. You know goat wey don mature well, chai. , the meat for sweet well. They were just roaming about and doing anyhow.

We also climbed the over 300 steps to the top of sulphur mountain. It was truly a day well spent. To throughly enjoy all the park has to offer, you need more than one visit. There are nearby hotels and tours to help with this.

As I gradually bid Alberta goodbye, it’s been a bittersweet cascade of emotions but I just feel it in my bones. I will definitely be back someday

  • Weekend Inspo 🏠 You know how much I love visiting showhomes to check out new ideas and to dream about our next home. This new estate home by @ShaneHomes in Enclave at the Hamptons will wow you from the second you step in the front door. No detail was over looked here in this quality build with every design detail perfectly executed! The home is laid out so wisely – they have seized every opportunity for adding stylish storage (both open and closed) with spaces that a family can actually live in. I think my favourite thing about this house was that it felt like a home while still being luxe and grand. Stay tuned to my feed and stories because you know I can never share just one photo of something that I love!
✨ I encourage you to go visit this beautiful showhome & watch the Virtual Grand Opening on @shanehomes IGTV!

  • ☕️ I settled into my coffee this morning wishing to share my offering with you. My desire is to create connection through conversation.⁣
⁣
Have you ever noticed an instant connection with someone you just met? How when they share an experience or a thought it resonates with you. And through that transparency you’ve gained a new friend.⁣
⁣
For many years I felt alone. I thought I was the only one going through what I was going through 🙋🏼‍♀️ but when I started having conversations that went beyond the usual, "I am fine, oh ya, look my life is just perfect” that’s when my life started changing because I started to connecting..⁣
⁣
My offering is that by sharing my experiences with you maybe they’ll resonate, maybe you’ll start to feel less alone, and inspired to make changes. By getting to know me, and me getting to know you through in-depth conversation and clear connection, we have the possibility of creating a journey that could lead to something fabulous within you..💜 ⁣

  • Trip to Lake Louise turned road trip to British Columbia

All of you guys that laughed at me ehen, well done oo, lmao. It’s so easy to stay in a province and not get to experience the tourist attractions at all. We have less than two weeks to leave Alberta at this point and we thought, heck, why not visit the main tourist attractions before we leave, given how incredibly pricey it is to travel within Canada, and who knows where next our journey will take us.

So we piled ourselves into the car (My friend, her hubby, their 2 years old, Baby A and myself). We decided to visit lake Louise first (about 178km) from our house and then double back to Banff before heading home. The trip going was super jolly, the scenery was so beautiful and untouched

This is where it gets interesting. We got to Lake Louise after almost two hours of driving, only to be informed that the lake car park was full. We could park about 4km away and hike to the Lake. The hike would take about an hour. I was like what, with two kids in tow, our food and all?, ko joor. We decided to visit the second highest waterfall in Canada (Yoho). Na so we put am for map and off we set. (It was at this point we messed up). A shey the Yoho Google was directing us to was the back of the park in British Columbia. Na so I begin drive they follow map, after 30 mins of driving Na him we pass welcome to British Columbia sign post. I checked the map again, google say make we continue, after 5 mins. Na hin we loss network coverage and came across that sign that said no network coverage for the next 150kms.

It was at this point I told my pple, e be like say we either don lost or google wan use us do sacrifice. Before we drive burst into one babalawo house. No be Canada, dem go catch me Abeg.Unlike Nigeria, you can’t just make U-turn on those roads, so we had to drive a long distance before we got to some camping ground to ask for directions. Baby A, was panicking at this point and crying. Mommy, call aunty. Her aunty that is in Nigeria oo.

  • Canada and Canadians in general thrive on appointments . You have to book an appointment for almost everything. Back in Nigeria, it was easy to just walk into the salon for a pedicure, get a hair cut or even see your doctor. Here ehen, everything Na call ahead of time. The COVID-19 situation has just further heightened this

I made a serious goof when I just arrived Canada. I was less busy that day and decided to visit CCIS ( one of the new immigrant settlement organizations in Calgary) . Na so I waka enter, not knowing I needed to have called ahead to schedule a meeting with an employment counselor. I sha tried to wrap the receptionist to assign me someone to speak with since I was already there. Na so she call around to find out if any of the counselors were available, saying there is a work in that will like to speak to someone.

One guy Anh, grudgingly accepted time to speak with me and was assigned my employment counselor. Na there I goof oo, guy just took a strong dislike to me because I didn’t have the better sense to book ahead for an appointment. Na so me sef change am for the guy, like nobody put a gun to your head to speak with me. That’s how my CCIS journey ended sha

Last week I needed to get a pedicure, I still never learn I carry my two left feet there only to have to chill two hours till I got a turn because I didn’t call ahead to book an appointment

I am coming back with gist of how we got lost and found ourselves in British Columbia 😫

  • Hey guys, sorry I have been MIA this week. It’s been a buying galore for me. Almost feels like I am moving from Nigeria to Canada again, whew.

Based on what I have heard about Nunavut, cost of living is a tad bit high there given that almost everything is flown or shipped in, because there are no road networks connecting it to other provinces. So I basically had to buy things we would need for about 9 months to a year in advance. The money I have spent ehen, make we just dey thank God.

The plan was to lease a car when I get there, but I quickly jettisoned that idea when I found out how expensive that would be. It was also going to cost me $4500 to ship my current car to Iqaluit. The car sef isn’t worth that much.

So I ended up calling my friend in Quebec to help buy a car there, another friend to load it up with foodstuff and other groceries, hand the car over to the shipper who will in turn get it into Nunavut for me

The moving company assigned by my employer also stopped by to get our things. So basically our apartment is bare and we are going to just have to live a minimalistic life till we travel. A couple of good friends offered to have us stay with them but hey, we lived this way when we first arrived, am sure we will be fine. I decided to have our things shipped early enough because it takes about 8 to 10 weeks to arrive Nunavut.

So there you have it. That’s what I have been up to. I see all the topics you guys will like me to write on. Stay tuned as I roll them out this week. Also edakun, biko, nagode, kindly spread the word about my page.

It’s easy to live in a city/province and not explore because you are bugled down with your everyday life. Like I have basically not explored Calgary/Alberta at all. The COVID-19 situation sef didn’t help. So we visited Calgary Zoo which was fun and we are headed to explore Banff next week.

  • ✨ Welcome 🙏🏼 I would like to⁣
share with you how I chose 𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘊𝘰𝘢𝘤𝘩 as my way of serving, supporting and creating possibilities for others.⁣
⁣
Going through divorce I had to create a new familiar, new house, new friends, new me, maintaining a sense of 'I got it together' for my children, it was very challenging. I spent years in a chaotic state of emotional upheaval. Going to therapy was not propelling me in a forward motion. I was whirling around in a story that wasn’t serving me. Eventually, finding a sense of emotional balance, I was still searching for my inner sparkle, my purpose and self fulfillment. I considered getting my Psych degree, although in the back of my mind I was recalling my thoughts of my therapy, stuck in a story, no movement forward.⁣
⁣
It was then I was introduced to the concept of coaching, my perception of coaching was business coaching, rah rah. Oh no, there is a whole other world of coaching! I dove in, I was fascinated at the results that I was receiving personally from being coached by my fellow classmates. I knew full heartedly that this is where I was meant to be. I realized that the last 10 years of my life would have been so different if I had been aware of coaching. ⁣
⁣
Being a coach has created within me a fire, to serve,⁣
support, be a courage companion, listen, hold space, create conversations of possibility and purpose for others. My personal journey created compassion, understanding, love, resilience, hope, and curiosity for myself and for others. Being a coach allows me to create space for you to create clarity. ⁣ ⁣

  • This week has been incredibly stressful. Moving out and doing it alone no be beans at. The other nightmare is having to call all your utilities companies to cancel your subscription.

  • These past 2 weeks have been upsetting. So much emotions running through my veins. I don't know how to express it. This is why I have been reposting powerful voices in our society, videos, photos, links, petitions, etc on my stories. It is now on my page under the highlights. Hopefully it has helped you guys educate yourself & lead you to links/pages where you can help. +

I couldnt bring myself to post food photos before addressing this essential matter. I can't be happy in my posts when behind the screen I am troubled. I am not saying if you have not posted on social media about Black lives matter you are guilty. I know everyone is processing it differently, but I'm hoping you have made those difficult conversations, reflect, educate yourself, pray, sign petitions, or donate behind the scenes.
+

I first want to say I know I will never understand what a Black individual goes through. I can't speak on behalf of them. But I'm moved to see how the movement has taken over the world.
+

But I want to address the Asian community. We need to do better, myself included. I am calling us out! I have ppl saying to me "everyone gets racism, Asians too." Yes, I KNOW! But we will never be worried about getting shot by a cop for no reason, ppl clenching their purses when we come near them, etc. +

Also we as a minority, we aren't innocent. One of the things I heard this week, "the first time I was discriminated was not from a WHITE person". Minorities are racist against minorities, sometimes even worse. Do u know why? Because we don't get called out as often as White people. +

Asians need to stand with the Black individuals, not look the other way. Be anti-racist & talk to our families, where we hear racist things. We don't have white privilege but we are PRIVILEGED. Something I learnt these couple weeks, the model minority. Asians are presumed the Model Minority. We need to stop this categorization, and following this term that was coined from White supremacy. +

I have many more thoughts, but the amount you can write on Insta is limiting haha. Change starts with ourselves, I need to do better. I hope u guys do too.
