  • UNPOPULAR OPINION: It's not about you.

There, I said it.

The job search is not about you.

"booooooooo!" I hear you saying, but hear me out.

The prep work, that’s all about you. The soul searching, research, deciding on a career path - you, you, you.

But once you start the effort of looking, it’s not about you anymore. It’s about them.

And when you make it about them, it positions you to be the most competitive candidate you can be.

So here are 3 impactful places to shift your message. More details on the blog (link in bio)

1️⃣ Your professional persona - look at whether it's about what you're looking for or the value you bring to a your potential employer. Start with your @LinkedIn summary & headline.

2️⃣ Your outreach & asks - think about how you can position the ask as something that's mutually beneficial.

3️⃣ Your resume - it's not a highlight reel. Focus on your impact.

Now let me be clear, as companies start responding to you, then it's about both of y'all. You're seeing if they're a good fit for you and vice versa, but if you continue to position yourself with the mindset of looking at the search from the employer's perspective, you'll stand out!

And wouldn't it be nice to be the one deciding between multiple offers?

  • It’s always been amazing to me how people film for a few hours in hopes of yielding a solid ten minutes of interview footage, ha! It’s the same as shooting 300 pictures in a photo shoot and hoping to get at least two good shots! Anyway, Dave Hunter & Team at Greenroom Video - a creative video agency, brought their “A-Game” as usual and were total pro in capturing a couple of really insightful interview segments. Exciting NEWS coming soon - stay tuned! 🎬🎥

  • Following on from my article last week on CVs and LinkedIn, here is my latest on making a positive impact at interview. I have worked with clients a lot on this lately and a lack of answer structure is one of the biggest issues. Remember what makes sense to you, needs clear and concise explanation to an interviewer, to highlight how you think and work and what your key skills and experience are #careerdevelopment #careeradvice #careergoals #careercoach #softskills #personaldevelopmentcoach #aspirations #workgoals #makeachange #communicationskills #Londonprofessionals #jobtips #professionalskills #careerjourney #careersuccess #careergrowth #careerpath #careeradvancement #personalgrowthdevelopment #careeropportunity #careerstrategy #careerplanning #careerdriven #communicationiskey #smartgoals #careerguidance #yourfuture #interviewquestions #interviewskills

  • Questions to ask during software engineering interviews
.
.
Happy Monday you all! Hope you had a fabulous weekend☺️ I unplug on Sunday and I felt so good to just connect with friends workout and not post anything.
.
Today, let’s dive into 10 interview questions that you could ask during your interviews:
.
1. How large is the engineering team?
2. What is the composition of the engineering team? Such as, product, design, pm, front end back end QA etc
3. How often are one-on-ones?
4. Who is my manager ?(only ask if it wasn’t clear on the description or during interviews)
5. Is there career coaching for engineers? If so, what’s the format?
6. Are there performance reviews? If so, how does the team define high performers?
7. What's the software development process like? For example, do you work in sprints?
8. What’s the deployment pipeline look like? Like what tools / platform are used?
9. How tasks are estimated and assigned?
10. Are there regular team retrospectives?
.
Hope this helps, remembered, you’re interviewing them, make sure they fit your expectations and has the potential for you to grow as well

  • A simple guide on how to get 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙨. While we are stuck on the existing ones, we can really make something amazing and interesting projects! Here is one of the approaches mentioned in the carousal above 👆🏽
-
⇒ Try to rebuild the existing projects using the technology you are trying to learn
⇒ Monitor your daily activities and see if you can build any tools to make it efficient
⇒ Rather than ideas directly, try to look for problems around your surroundings and try to make apps to solve them
-
I hope you find these useful. ❤️😁

  • In case we haven't officially met yet... I'm Alycia 😊

I grew up in rural Pennsylvania where I raised sweetcorn in the summers. 🌽

At age 8, I wrote a letter to "Hollywood" addressed something like: "Dear Hollywood..." letting them know that I was able to dance ballet, tap, jazz and had an awesome English accent, and asking for them to invite me to "be on tv." 🎬

Needless to say, I didn't hear back from Hollywood. 🤷‍♀️

But - I didn't give up on my dreams!

In my mid-20's, I moved to Los Angeles to explore modeling and acting (though, it helped that I had a master's degree and a great job working at a prestigious private university on the westside).

I entered the entertainment industry as a fitness model and soon discovered my talent for on-camera hosting. I took some classes with the great Markie Costello, and started working for a media company in Santa Monica. 📸

I won auditions to work with PopSugar TV and eventually got the lead in a commercial for Suzanne Somers' new & improved ThighMaster! 💪

🎬 Shortly after that, I launched my own YouTube channel, which has grown to over 20,000 subscribers.
🎤 And, I started the Win A Pageant podcast that gets 150,000 downloads.

I'm so grateful I live during a time where we ALL are able to be our own media channels!

Moral of the story: don't wait for someone else to invite you into your dream... just Go For It! ⭐️

What is a dream you are pursuing - even without an invitation? I wanna know!👇🏼

⭐ Let's support each others' dreams! ⭐

  • from @js.nerd Hey Coders ? How is your week going ? 😀
.
The day before yesterday I posted a story about JavaScript sort function.
Today I explained sort function in detail. ✔️
.
If you knew this earlier ,let me know in comments ☑️
.
Sort Function in JavaScript is a bit strange. By default it sort everything as String.⚡️
.
So if you use this to sort an array of integers , it will treat them as string and give strange output.
.
To fix this we can pass a compare function, and In this post I discussed this in detail 🎯

  • Answering interview questions 👩🏽‍🏫❓⁣
⁣
PREP, PREP, PREP! I may sound like a broken record for those of you who have heard this from me many times. But I can't stress it enough. You need to spend a lot of time learning about yourself. We all think we know ourselves pretty well, but reality is that when we're asked something like, "where do you want to be in 10 years?" we struggle to come up with something. ⁣
⁣
Spend a little time each day reflecting on your answers to some of the most common interview questions (you can google and find hundreds of lists). Write them out, not to memorize your answers but as a self-reflective practice. Think about REAL answers to these questions. ⁣
⁣
Change your mindset from "I want to impress them" to "I want them to know me." This mindset shift allows you to be more comfortable in the interview and bring up conversation topics that reflect the kind of person you are. When answering questions, tell a short story or reflect on a past experience - this will help them get to know you in the short amount of time you have.⁣
⁣
I've said it before and I'll say it again - please do not try to disguise a strength as a weakness. Working too hard or being a perfectionist is not a weakness. Think of something real; something that you've had to work hard at improving. Then tell your interviewer the real story about how you've worked to overcome this weakness. ⁣
⁣
Lastly, be confident! You've come this far and you deserve to be here. It's okay to know that you have a lot to learn, while being confident in what you've done to get here. ⁣
⁣
Any other tips? Leave them below!

Spend a little time each day reflecting on your answers to some of the most common interview questions (you can google and find hundreds of lists). Write them out, not to memorize your answers but as a self-reflective practice. Think about REAL answers to these questions.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - please do not try to disguise a strength as a weakness. Working too hard or being a perfectionist is not a weakness. Think of something real; something that you've had to work hard at improving. Then tell your interviewer the real story about how you've worked to overcome this weakness. ⁣

Lastly, be confident! You've come this far and you deserve to be here. It's okay to know that you have a lot to learn, while being confident in what you've done to get here. ⁣
