  • Hardwood/Solid Wood Flooring
Hardwood flooring, unlike engineered wood, consists of only solid wood. The thickness may vary a lot though, usually they are about 1/2", but the Madera flooring (pictures 3-5) are as thick as 1 1/2". Because of the thickness of the flooring, you can refinish the floors multiple times without having to replace them.
Another advantage of hardwood flooring is that it allows you to create patterns (chevron, herringbone, etc). See pictures 1 and 2.

Picture 6 rustic oak looking wood floor. Note there are not too many knots, just enough to make it look rustic, but not too much to suggest that the wood might be lower quality/cheaper.

  • Flooring Day 2: Engineered Hardwood

Engineered wood floors are made up of a top layer of real hardwood and several plies underneath. Their advantage over hardwood is that they can be stronger and less likely to expand and contract than hardwood, as there are multiple layers. Engineered wood can also be easier to install.

There are cheaper engineered wood that are 3-ply, the more common is 5-ply, but there are 7-ply engineered flooring also. Again, depending on the width, length, thickness and details of the flooring, they can vary largely in price. from $3 to $30+/sqft. Less grain and knots almost always mean premier and pricier flooring. (By all means, around $10-15 you can get some top quality, branded flooring).

Engineered wood, like hardwood, would not be waterproof or scratch proof, but if you love wood, and price and functionality is not your main concern, then by all means go with engineered wood.

Something I don't talk about often, but I do think I should, but nervous about, is about the many challenges I face as an ultra-orthodox, mother of 4, UX Designer, working in Hi-Tech Israel.

Now, of course, I'm not the only working mom, there are many others and we find ourselves asking many questions.

Questions like:

Do I smile enough? Or I'm smiling too much? Will others think I'm too good for them if I don't smile. Is my laugh unprofessional? Do men get asked how they manage their work life balance? Did my manager just touch me, I swear I felt something... I'm sure my colleague just repeated what I said? Why did no one hear me? If speak up or push back will my manager claim I'm being insubordinate? Why do I feel I'm being 'punished' for making a mistake? Why do I have this sinking feeling my male counterpart wouldn't be punished in this way? Would I have been let go in this abrasive manner if I would be a man. Maybe they don't realise I'm the bread winner? Do I go on this work trip with only men? Why is this an issue? Why are my clothes being questioned? I dress like a modest business women... Oh he doesn't think I'm the manager... Oh he thinks I'm my colleagues wife. Why do I feel like my female colleagues dislike me? Oh I thought I was presenting the deck I stayed up all night creating. Oh my pictures online are immodest? Oh I didn't know its against Jewish law? Oh its not... Why are they worried about my commute to work, do men get asked about this? Do I think I will fit in culturally? Oh, I'm not a good fit. Was I rejected because I'm not good enough or because I'm wearing a wig + a skirt, or perhaps they think I will get pregnant? Why does this male colleague always pick on me in public? Why does he also compliment me when we are alone.. Maybe I'm not smart, maybe I only have a following because of what I look like. What if I'm hired because of this? How do I know? What if it doesn't matter? But really, honestly, how do I manage my work-life balance?

Stay strong ladies, we are in this together, we need to support each other. Build each other and build a future where our daughters will never ask themselves these questions ❤

  • Flooring Day 1 - LVP, SPC and WPC vinyl

There are all kinds of flooring on the market, and many times sales reps would say "you get what you pay for". But is the most expensive always the best? When it comes to flooring, it really depends on what you are looking for.

Today I will talk about the more affordable vinyl flooring, which is becoming increasingly popular for both residential and commercial use because of its waterproof and scratch proof features.

If you have children or pets, you might want to seriously consider purchasing SPC or WPC floors, which can help save a lot of money and headaches.

There are 3 major types of vinyl flooring - LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank), SPC (Stone Plastic Composite) and WPC (Wood Plastic Composite). The names are pretty self explanatory.
LVP flooring is usually thinner, around 4-5mm, while SPC and WPC flooring can be as thick as 8mm and 12mm.

LVP is likely your regular vinyl, priced around $2-$3/sqft, you can get them from anywhere such as Home Depot. On the other hand, the more high-end SPC and WPC can cost as much as regular engineered wood, more than $5/sqft, depending on the style (e.g. thickness, width and plank details).

Below are 2 brands that I personally like:
Picture 1-3: Paradigm SPC flooring
Picture 4-5: Innova WPC flooring
