  • This @laurent_ferrier dial just has the subtlest texture! Really loving how the brushing makes it almost “glow” when hit with light.

  • Later today we are going to take you back to school when we are joined by the wonderful Henrik Korpela; founder and Principal of the Korpela & Hofs Watchmaking Competence Centre, which is located right in the epicentre of Switzerland's ticking heart.

In his role as an educator and mentor to the current and future generations of watchmakers from all around the world, as they pass through his fully independent watchmaking school near Le Locle, Henrik is uniquely positioned to help in the development of tomorrow's prodigies, who benefit from his many years studying and as a teacher at the WOSTEP academy.

If you have ever considered what it actually takes to become a watchmaker, or are curious about those first steps, then this conversation is one you absolutely need to see.

Each week In The Metal takes a look beyond the watch industry's glamorous façade, and into the lesser-seen corners of independent watchmaking, where the true heart of this centuries-old craft beats.

It does not get more behind-the-scenes than going into the educational workshops where young and emerging talents practice and learn at the esteemed K&H Watchmaking Competence Centre.

As ever, do not miss.

  • Sometimes I think it’s a little weird to be calling something like this @laurent_ferrier a “dress watch”. In my mind, dress watches are extremely conservative in size while this watch sits at 40mm and isn’t particularly slim. Similarly, brands like Frederique Constant have a very classic aesthetic, but I’d argue that larger “dressy” watches shouldn’t be lumped in with a 36mm Calatrava. Am I going mad, or is this something you’ve wondered as well?
