💠Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is a mental eating disorder in which a person is obsessed being overweight due to which he/she severely restricts calorie intake, but actually he/she is extremely underweight.
💠A person suffering from AN exhibits various psychological, physical and behavioral signs and symptoms.
💠Anorexia Nervosa is caused due to different factors. It may include genetic factors, environmental factors, cultural factors, societal and peer pressure
💠It is commonly prevalent in females, but young males can also be a victim of AN.

🔸Restrictive dieting due to fear of becoming obese is observed largely in females.
🔸Excessive exercise due to fear of becoming obese is observed largely in males.

💠4% to 20% of young women practice unhealthy patterns of dieting, purging and binge eating. 

📎Anorexia Nervosa affects 5% of young males and 95% of young females. It is common in females of 15 - 30 years of age.

Is it a #fracture or #arthritis?

One study sought to determine differences via self-reports:

"The study looked at 197 British women between the ages of 67 and 84, asking them to report on their experiences of pain (in the back but elsewhere as well) before initiating a spine x-ray to look for vertebral fractures. They found that about a third of the women had vertebral fractures — and the women with fractures had a number of things in common. They were older (average age of 76.9 years versus 71.7 in the women without fractures), were considerably more likely to have had a previous fracture, or a diagnosis of osteoporosis, or both, and had fairly specific attributes to the pain they experienced that differed from the women with arthritis.

Most notably, women with fractures described their pain as recent and brief in duration but “crushing,” whereas women with arthritis said they had intermittent or periodic pain that they were more likely to call “taut” or “sharp.” Radiation of pain to the legs and association with weather changes were common in the women with arthritis but not the women with vertebral fractures.   • Pass me some cake!

Confession. Cake has become the centre of my universe. Offer me anything sugary pre-2020 and I could take it or leave it. Now? I’m licking the crumbs off the plate, wrapper...the walls. Okay so not the walls but you know what I mean.

When I arrived back in the UK at the start of May I was really looking forward to getting my act together in terms of my physical health. Mentally, I was feeling strong and focussed so I knew after a week or so of recovering and settling back into home life I could crack on with some sort of exercise regime.

But that didn’t quite happen. It started off ok, I was heading out for 3-4km walks most mornings and then one day I over did it and fucked up my knees walking down a very steep hill. So for over a week I couldn’t really do anything. I thought about yoga a few times....just thought, nothing more. And suddenly another week past with no exercise, and another one and another and suddenly here we are AUGUST!!!

So what the hell happened? Well, I got so busy with my business and engrossed in what I was doing I wasn’t making time for anything else. I was getting up early every day, doing things that were supporting my mental health and personal growth but physically I was moving less and less and healthy eating? Well, let’s just say I may have eaten cake for breakfast once...maybe twice! Slabs of chocolate were demolished in one sitting and a box of Jaffa cakes would no longer hit the spot. And of my fucking god the loaves of bread I’ve consumed!!

Now I’m not excusing this behaviour but I wouldn’t normally let things get this out of control. It’s not like I was short of time, so I was a bit frustrated. And in all honesty yes I was always busy with other things but I didn’t feel like I physically had the energy to exercise some days. I was always needing a nap and something just felt off.

We tend to act like phases aren’t a thing.
We expect our body to work the exact same way, day in day out.
We can even get mad or annoyed when this expectation aren’t met. ‌

What we should do, instead, is realizing that nature created cycles: is, as women, we should be more conscious and mindful of these little but powerful phases within our bodies.
Hormonal fluctuations are a reality, and they’re not just about getting nervous & craving junk food.
It’s about energy levels, digestion changes, strength levels, focus, impulses, confidence, look, smell.. The glow of your skin, the explosiveness of your workout, the depth of your empathy, the bravery of your dream. Everything is connected to that balance inside you, that internal and almost magical dance that happens every month within your body. ‌

Sadly nowadays society made us think that these changes are wrong, are a weakness, have to be hidden and silenced.
Why should we do so? Nature wouldn’t create something so harmonious to make us pretend it isn’t there. ‌

Embrace your cycle. Embrace your period. Embrace those changes. Your body is communicating with you: listen. ‌

Slow down when you need to. Set fire to the rain when you feel that power inside yourself. Eat the cake. Start a detox. Take time for doing. Take time for being. ‌

And never be ashamed of how you feel ✨
