“LIFTING WEIGHTS MAKES YOU BULKY”⠀
Building muscle takes time, lifting weights will not make you suddenly bulky, unless you’re in a calorie surplus, consistently overloading your muscles with a structured program they will not grow. Simply just going to the gym now and then will not make you look like Arnold overnight. ⠀

“EATING CARBS AFTER 6PM WILL MAKE YOU FAT”⠀
Carbs are still 4 calories per gram at 5:59pm and at 6pm. Concentrate on your total calories intake, stop fixating on specific foods and just start tack food, you’ll find it a lot less restrictive and easier to follow. ⠀

“THE MORE CARDIO THE BETTER”⠀
Cardio is a tool we can use to burn calories, if the goal is to look better rather than performance based, doing more and more isn’t going to elicit the results you desire, especially if you want to just look better naked (who doesn’t?). ⠀

“THE ANABOLIC WINDOW IS WHERE THE GAINS ARE MADE”⠀
Rushing to get your shake in post workout will make no difference to gaining slabs of muscle. Scientific studies have shown it again and again. I’d personally concentrate more on pre workout nutrition, as this is what is fuelling your training sessions.⠀

“NO PAIN, NO GAIN”⠀
If you’re in pain, STOP, pushing through pain is not going to help your body, if you’re training to just batter your body every session and not recovering properly, you’re an injury waiting to happen. Train smart, not stupid.⠀

▫️Every day is a new opportunity to go after what you want and to make a start on something that you have been putting off or that you haven't had the confidence to do just yet- it can be as small as trying a new workout or doing yoga for the first time, changing up your diet or even just trying to drink more water. 💕

There are times where getting out of bed or going into the shower is a work out for me. I use every single muscle to do so. It’s as if I’m at a gym 24/7. People who have physical disabilities know exactly what I’m talking about. Although we may not work out like someone who doesn’t have a disability, we do in our own way. The exercises I do on the side help me build muscle and strength to continue my every day life

I’ve had to adapt to a world that doesn’t consider me worthy of exercising. Going to a gym isn’t truly accessible (I’ve never been to one that was… except most gyms around me have no stairs but that’s all) so I find ways to re-create and adapt for what works for me. I come up with creative ways to exercise. Sometimes I search up on YouTube “exercises while sitting” and go from there

In my previous post, I wrote that there was no excuse to not use the world as your gym. While that can be true, it was ableist. When we get it wrong, we should embrace being corrected and turn it into a teachable moment. If you’re someone with a physical disability who is able to move your body even in the slightest, having routines can possibly help. For those who cannot, don’t feel ashamed or feel like you’re missing out. Our bodies are different for a reason, what may work for me may not work for you

I started posting myself exercising because I was told and have heard from people “what’s the point?” I was always confused when I’d see people who didn’t have disabilities go to the gym but rarely ever saw someone like me there. So out of anger and stubbornness I ripped that band-aid and went. Interesting enough, I loved it! Even though I was always the only one there with a visible physical disability, I made sure that other people understood that we (people who have disabilities) should be able to be apart of every activity, like a gym. Hopefully in the future places like these can have a little bit more consideration and have accessible workout stations. A little representation goes a long way

  • After boxing for several years and fighting on the national team I decided to channel my passion for athletic, fitness, health and wellness, by dedicating my work to helping others realize their potential, both as boxing instructor and personal trainer. During the past couple of months I’ve been spending more time on building online home workout programs. Currently working on the 3rd week of weekly workouts.
