  • 🏡Vancouver's Oldest Building🏡
“When it’s quiet at the old Hastings Mill store you can hear the past whispering to you…” #historicalsite
.

  • This is the home where the High Priestess of Soul spent her childhood. Where she learned the piano and formed the dream of becoming the first Black Classical pianist to perform at Carnegie Hall. This was before the Civil Rights Movement beckoned her, before Medgar Evers was assassinated, before four young Black girls were murdered in a Sunday School bombing in Birmingham, AL. Before "Mississippi Goddam" poured from her nimble fingers and her powerful voice. But this small house in Tryon, NC, paved the way for her to become a civil rights icon. Because what else do you do when you're at your first piano recital as a little girl and your parents are told they have to move from the front row to stand in the back because they're Black? Her white neighbors allowed her blackness on stage so long as she was entertaining them, not refusing to play until her parents were allowed back to the front row. Her life was never marked by idly sitting by. Her life was marked by always crying power. Demanding respect and change. Dr. Nina Simone deserved better than the United Snakes of America was ever willing to give her, but she fought for her people all the same and left a legacy we all should celebrate and strive to learn even a little from.

  • ⁣⁣ 🏛 Can you really wrap your head around the fact that Ancient Greeks and their foreign visitors were enjoying theatre performances at this exact spot in III BC?
⁣
🏛 2000+ years ago Peloponnesus was the cradle of progress, arts, sports and people more civilized than some of those you meet today. ⁣

🏛 Scattered around the peninsula, you will find numerous archeological sites in the cities, on top of the mountains and even sunk under water. Epidavros theatre is one of the best examples! ⁣

  • The mirage-like city of Jaisalmer in India looks like a delicate jewel carved out of gold. Conjuring images of spectacular historic buildings, the town's architecture is unmatched. "Havelis", built in 18th century, on a fusion of Rajputana and subtle Islamic features, are magnificent buildings served as mansions of wazirs, landlords and wealthy merchants enriched on a by-gone era. Carved in yellow sandstone, reminiscents of the prosperous past of the town, when it was a trade hub on the Camel Caravan Route , they are a marvellous legacy of craftmanship. Beautiful facades with oriel windows, ornated lattices with floral motifs, jali screens and stone "jharokhas( balconies) are a treat to the eyes of the beholder. Everything in Havelis seems to be flawless in conception, built for artistic exclusiveness. In front of one of them, the "Nathmalji's" Haveli, a family instantly drew my attention....Dipped in an enchanting shade of gold, they seemed to have emerged from the pages of an Arabic fable...The Silk Route is still shaping the modern world.... #rajasthan#jaisalmer#historicalsite#historicalplace#historicalarchitecture#indianhistory#architectureofindia#heritageofindia#culturalheritage#besttravelpictures#discovertheworldwithoureyes#womensstreetphotographers#streetshared#streetexplorer#streetfinder#travellingthroughtheworld#travelpictures_world#beautifuldestinationsaroundworld#travel_captures#travelphoto#followmytravel#travelinspiration#neverstopexploring#loves_cultures#street_storytelling#bcncollective#storiesofindia#indiapictures#_visualsofindia#wonderfuldestinations#

  • Eastern State Penitentiary | Philadelphia.
•
ᴇᴀsᴛᴇʀɴ sᴛᴀᴛᴇ ᴘᴇɴɪᴛᴇɴᴛɪᴀʀʏ was once the most famous and expensive prison in the world, but stands today in ruin, a haunting world of crumbling cellblocks and empty guard towers.
Its vaulted, sky-lit cells once held many of America's most notorious lawbreakers, including "Slick Willie" Sutton and "Scarface" Al Capone.

  • A tomb from the Nabateans kingdom, Mada’in Saleh or Hegra, Alula, Saudi Arabia
——————————-
أحد أثار مملكة الأنباط بمدائن صالح او الحجر، العلا، المملكة العربية السعودية

Mada’in Saleh, Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO world heritage site dating back to 1st century BC.
An intriguing place that I was blessed to visit in 2019!
——————————
مدائن صالح هي اول موقع تراثي عالمي من قبل منظمة اليونسكو في المملكة العربية السعودية. ترجع الى القرن الاول قبل الميلاد!
