  • Does anyone else struggle to balance weight training and running?? 🙃
At the start of lockdown I was really into my running, but the last two months I have sorted of neglected it as I was missing my usual strength routine. I really struggle to manage the two together! So if anyone has any tips please let me know!! 🏃🏼‍♀️⬇️
On another note, I got a slow 6miles done before work this morning, my third jog of #runfordementia 💙
Also, superrrrrrr happy it's friday tomorrow, it's been a long week! 
One more day guys 🥰

  • Pancakes but make them protein 🥞 

Please don’t judge my pancake making abilities. I was very intrigued when I saw these at @aldiusa and finally got to try them for breakfast this morning. I would give them a 4/5 but I think they would be better if you mixed them with any type of milk instead of water. I think I’ll definitely keep a stock of these in my house for when I want a sweet breakfast or dessert!

  • Ever have those morning where you snooze your alarm 27 times and heavily debate sleeping more over working out?
You’re lying if you say you haven’t

I’m all about rest, you guys know that
But this morning i could tell it was just me being lazy and making excuses
•
It’s super important to be able to differentiate lack of motivation and fatigue.
How could I tell the difference?
▫️I had a rest day yesterday
▫️My body physically felt fine
▫️And I got 8 hours of sleep
•
So when you’re feeling sluggish in the morning,
How do you get moving?
There’s two things I do:
1. Visualize how I I will feel after I get my workout in. I KNOWWWW I will feel so much better after my workout AND it puts me in a good space for the rest of my day
2. I count down from five. 5-4-3-2-1 GET UP & GO. Idk what it is but as soon as I get to 1 I have to get tf up.

And then I splash my face with water, chug some @bowmar_nutrition preworkout (link in bio, code KENZ) and get moving!

Lack of motivation will always exist,
But it’s the things we do to combat that that will push us to be our best selves.

Headed home from Red River Gorge, KY after a few days of hiking + eating whatever the heck I wanted 🤷🏼‍♀️

Short trips like this are the best! I love being able to indulge for a few days while not letting myself get too far off track. I’m ready to get home and get back into routine! I miss the gym😭

I’m behind on posts and DMs but honestly taking time to myself has been great!

  • RAISE YOUR HANDS IF YOUR CLOTHES ARE SNUG. 

The beginning of quarantine left my routines in shambles, including eating a balanced diet. I exercised regularly, but found myself finding comfort in food more than usual. I rediscovered my old love for jollof rice and cant seem to end my weekly entanglement with Halo ice cream.

Slowing down and examining our relationship with our bodies, our eating habits, our exercise routines can be overwhelming. But necessary. 

If you’re feeling down about the extra weight, consider a different perspective. You likely don’t have your pre-pandemic body because you’ve never been in a pandemic. Make room for the complexities in life. Our bodies are dynamic and there’s never a completion point. But you can commit to adopt sustainable, healthier habits AND extend grace to yourself while doing it.

If you’re trying to get back to a routine, many motivational steps that worked pre-quarantine still can be effective: Vary your exercise routine to avoid boredom. Set a series of smaller, achievable goals instead of a big, pie-in-the-sky objective (e.g. I want my green shorts to comfortably fit vs. I want to lose 15 pounds). And speaking of pie, eat more foods that make you FEEL better throughout the day, instead of just a momentary fix. For me, this means less fried plantain and hot Cheetos; more vegetables and fruit. 

Instead of forcing weight loss, let weight loss come as a natural side effect of a better diet and improved health.

With the emotional turmoil that has come with the pandemic, the last thing we need is added stress about our weight and bodies.

1️⃣ LOGGING OUR WORKOUTS - Applying progressive overload ie doing more over time is key to building muscle and we can’t do this if we’re unsure what we’re achieving from session to session. Keeping a record of our workouts means we can keep on progressing, evaluate our progress and find out what we responding best to.

2️⃣ RESTING ENOUGH BETWEEN SETS - In order to not jeopardise the load we use it’s vital that we give ourselves adequate rest between sets. This is especially important on our main compound lifts - lighter exercises which involve more reps will take less time to recover from 👌🏻

3️⃣ PRIORITISING TECHNIQUE - when lifting weights it’s vital we learn to do the exercise correctly. If we’re not sure we can always ask someone with experience or a fitness professional to help. Remember, the better our form the better our results!

It is common but shouldn't be ignored. I've experienced it myself and have been through it.⠀⠀

🥴Peak or my pee week of comp:⠀
I was tired, stressed, lost focus, lost form, didn't eat enough, drank too much Redbull right before my training session. ⠀
😢I was absolutely shocked, embarrassed, annoyed and worried it was going to happen at comp. I even wore my leak proof @modibodi undies at comp just in case.⠀
⠀
But after getting an assessment myself, working on my pelvic floor, my brace, my form and nutrition I was leak free at comp. (My leak free PB face 😃)⠀
Working with so many strong athletes I can tell you that everyone is different and there is no cookie cutter treatment however it can often be improved or minimised. ⠀
⠀
If you have experienced incontinence with lifting, jumping, running, laughing. Felt heaviness or dragging deep in the pelvis or groin contact a pelvic floor physio who can help you out! Any questions I'm always happy to answer!⠀ ❤ ⠀
