  • We’re starting off this Arts & Resistance series with a tribute to Khadija Saye (Ya-Haddy Sisi Saye), a talented Gambian-British artist who was killed in the Grenfell Tower fires. Khadija was dedicated to social justice and educational inequality and her career was just getting started.
There is currently a public art project in Notting Hill, that has been set up to support a charity in her honour. If you’re in London and want to check it out, head to the Breath is Invisible post on our blog.
It’s been over three years and there’s still been no justice. Let’s continue to remember all of the lives that this world has lost.

  • Okkkkk, social media is a strange place! Especiallyyyy now with the worldwide, COVID-induced pause we’re in, these platforms are becoming increasingly powerful and deeply affecting how we communicate as human beings. In some areas, these platforms are the *only* form of communication 🆘 , meanwhile my brain is constantly like: “just tell me what the ‘algorithm’ IS!!!”
.
Over the past few days, I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing all these FIERCE women fill my feed with absolutely stunning and honest pictures. Recently, it's become clear that the origin of this B&W challenge is a campaign against the brutal violence towards women and - specifically, the murder of a 27-year-old student named Pinar Gültekin in Turkey.
.
So, first things first, I ACTIVELY stand against violent behavior towards women. I believe that we all - collectively - need to continue to fight the out-of-date gender stereotypes that exist in our world. And secondly, I one THOUSAND percent support women supporting women!! I love celebrating others and love to feel celebrated!!! (thank you to the incomparable @aga_swiecki, @randeelayne, @marissalabog, and @reginavisconi for their shoutouts).
.
All that to say, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. In my slice of the world, I will continue to fight for us. I will continue to educate myself on the root of these social media moments - and do my best to build a better, more RESILIENT world.
.
Ok - it's your turn now! @karmv2 @jtwinquinn @hashtag_tinat @nicolemangrumhair @kagekoven @hairstylesbydoreen @karentabs1 @lexusmarie4 @kendylrose @wanswonders @dancing.for.donuts

  • The above quote is from Mitsuye Yamada, an acclaimed poet, feminist writer and human rights activist. She wanted to encourage Asian-American women to speak out during wartime as they were barred with a code of silence. Today she reminds us that despite obstacles and barriers, as a feminist organisation we must do what we can to speak out on these difficult issues. We are privileged enough to be able to support those whose voices are often muted and we will continue to support women, children and young people experiencing domestic abuse throughout these challenging circumstances.

We still need YOUR help to keep services like this going. Please if you can, donate to our JustGiving page linked below. If you cannot donate then please share the link on your social media pages. Thank you to everyone who has been donating and sharing the campaign so far, it really does make a difference and we really appreciate it.

🇬🇧 What should we expect when we're harassed by employees of institutions that should be protecting us? How should we react to a situation like this when we're abroad and facing an authority figure that has the power of harming us somehow? How vulnerable are Brazilian women when they are overseas wit behaviors like this from their country's own police officer?

  • We don’t have it as bad as some other countries, however, America still has a lot of growth it needs to do. People need to be more open minded and understanding. We cannot control one another, no matter how much some of us want to. We need to try to understand others decisions and just let them live their lives the way they want to. #activism #activist #care #world #love #equality #blacklivesmatter #feminism #feminist #comment #thoughts #thisisnotconsent #prochoice #mybodymychoice #feministmovement #activistminds

  • “No wonder studies show that women’s intellectual self-esteem tends to go down with every year of higher education. We’ve been studying our own absence.”
.
Many of you know that I recently watched and loved Mrs America. I’m so pleased to see lots of you watching it too, because the whole thing from the cast to the costumes, the writing, and the music was brilliant. Since watching it, I’ve also had a renewed passion to read more from the founding mothers of the 70s wave of feminism, hence picking up this latest book from Gloria Steinem.
.
There were so many nuggets of wisdom in this book, but one that has particularly stuck with me is the distinction Gloria makes between history and the past. She explains that the past is an account of what has happened before, but history is the story we tell about it. And more often than not history has been ‘his story’ with very little acknowledgement of women’s role. Subsequently, as the above quote suggests, women feel increasingly dejected the more they look at history, believing we have not been present in the past achievements of our world.
.
In reality, however, we know this isn’t true. Women have made tremendous contributions to every area of our modern lives. From science to literature, music, engineering, and politics, women have played a vital role in the advancement of our society, and I think it’s high time we start rewriting history to actually reflect the vital role that women have played in our past.
.
Have you read any feminist writing recently? What’s stuck with you?

  • We take the challenge of #womenempowerment
@anoosha.jawad ♥️
.
I truly believe women empowering eachother; being there, supportive, genuinely lifting eachother and applaud in the success of eachother.
I have talked previously about this and I always do. Every woman should have freedom to dream, to achieve her dreams and to live her dreams. Let's support eachother and stand for eachother.
.
It's my favourite thing and we need more of it. ♥️

  • achtung, feminismus.
