  • Do you have high insulin levels? Alone, it isn't diabetes, but it could be associated with type 2 Diabetes and PCOS

The majority of people with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have insulin resistance or high insulin

Insulin resistance is when cells in your muscles, fat, and liver don’t respond well to insulin and can’t use glucose from your blood for energy. To make up for it, your pancreas makes more insulin. Over time, your blood sugar levels go up.

Insulin Resistance is something I have personally struggled with. 🤢It took years to figure out how to control it and what to do. And it was not until I was out of school and doing residency did my precepting physician, Dr. Jerome Block, checked my levels and balance me out! 👨‍⚕️And what a blessing that was! It was from that moment that I knew I had to continue to help patients specifically balance their hormones and work on preventing metabolic diseases. ❤️

  • 😜 Another Wednesday, another visit to the physiotherapist. Wow, those visits are painful, but I notice improvement after every one. I still have noticeable inflammation from my detox program, but tomorrow is the last day of that, so I hope to be back to my old self - but better - very soon! 💕⁣
⁣
😊 Reminds me that improving myself in all ways, painful as it may be at times, is always so worth it. It's also educational, so the more I go through personally, the more I can understand and help my clients and friends. 🧠

  • Ever feel happy-go-lucky one minute…

…and the next, you’re a raging b****?

If you’ve ever dealt with this in the 1-2 weeks leading up to your period, you know how brutal it can be.

My client, Tess, experienced this for YEARS.

Always thought it was “just” PMS… until she learned about PMDD and all the pieces of the puzzle started to come together.

She told me that for 2 weeks before her period, she could go from happy to sad in an instant. Getting into arguments with people – over NOTHING – falling into depression and irrational anger…

She literally lost jobs because of her uncontrollable emotional swings.

And the worst part was that Tess never knew what to expect – she had no sense of control and worried constantly about her relationships.

She actually avoided dating for a long time because she was terrified of ruining it.

Do your mood swings – anxiety, irritability, anger, depression – interfere with your relationships too, %FIRSTNAME%?

One of the first things that my clients tell me inside The Hormone Harmony Method is quickly their moods start to stabilize.

They don’t feel massive swings in emotions leading up to their period.

They don’t feel out of control.

Are you ready to be free of the anxiety?

To stop shying away from life – and ruining relationships – because your hormonal mood swings are uncontrollable?

Join me tomorrow for my Masterclass – The Menstrual Freedom Formula – where I’ll be sharing the exact strategy that I use with my clients to free them from PMS & PMDD.

This is the strategy that Tess has been using that has freed her from premenstrual anxiety.

  • Hormones have profound effects on your mental, physical and emotional health.

These chemical messengers play a major role in controlling your appetite, weight and mood, among other things.
Normally, your endocrine glands produce the precise amount of each hormone needed for various processes in your body.

However, hormonal imbalances have become increasingly common with today's fast-paced modern lifestyle. In addition, certain hormones decline with age, and some people experience a more dramatic decrease than others.

Hormonal imbalances may increase your risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and other health problems.
Despite the fact that aging and other factors are beyond your control, there are many steps you can take to help your hormones function optimally.

Consuming nutritious foods, exercising on a regular basis, managing your stress and engaging in other healthy behaviors can go a long way toward improving your hormonal health and allow you to feel and perform your best.

Men..Symptoms of testosterone deficiency in men include fatigue, lack of mental acuity, loss of libido, and difficulty achieving or sustaining an erection. Bio-identical hormone pellet therapy, creams & Low T injections has had excellent results in treating men for hormone therapy!!

And Ladies.. We're not leaving you out! We know Menopause can be a trying time for women as the body goes through changes that are a result of the loss of hormones. It’s a natural aging process where the ovaries stop producing progesterone and estrogen. These hormones have an important role in maintaining metabolism, cell growth and bone health to mention a few. Symptoms of menopause include:
 •Hot flashes
 •Infertility
 •Mood changes
 •Anxiety
 •Loss of libido
 •Joint pain
 •Weight gain
 •Vaginal dryness
 •Depression
•Hair loss and thinning of skin
 •Fatigue
Naturally these symptoms may start to occur after the age of 40, but in some circumstances the body will stop producing hormones at an earlier age due to a hysterectomy, thyroid disorder, hypopituitarism or other medications and conditions!

  • MENSTRUATIONSPHASE - DIE ERSTE PHASE IM WEIBLICHEN ZYKLUS
.
.
Wie gehst du während deiner Menstruation um? Was tut dir besonders gut? Und schaffst du es, dir in dieser Phase bewusst Auszeiten zu erlauben?
.
Schreib mir gern in die Kommentare. Ich freue mich auf weitere Inspirationen für diese Phase❤️

  • // WHEN THE PAIN TAKES ENJOYMENT OUT OF LIFE //

I remember when I first spoke with my client Dawn back in February.

She told me that 10 days a month, she was in excruciating pain – like labour pain. It was impossible for her to have a normal day.

The biggest problem was losing productivity, her ability to have fun and interact with her kids and it even kept her from the important work she did at her church, counselling women.

She had been diagnosed with endometriosis and with a family history of hysterectomies, she saw herself heading down that path.

She wasn’t comfortable with that option.

And she knew there was something better for her. She knew she could live her best life 100% of the time instead of 60% of the time.

She wanted to be able to enjoy her life – exercise, work, play with her kids, be active in her community…

To live up to her expectations of herself.

And boy, was she determined!

She started off strong… then COVID took the world hostage.

But she persisted.

Even through her own health challenges, mounting stress from the pandemic, and the responsibility of caring for 10 people under her roof 24/7 (on top of her work and church responsibilities)…

She didn’t give up.

Just a few months later, Dawn shared this post with us in The Hormone Harmony Method.

If Dawn can do it, any woman can do it.

And I’m going to share HOW she did it this Thursday, August 6th at 12pm in my Masterclass: The Menstrual Freedom Formula.

During this Masterclass, I’m going to share the biggest menstrual misconceptions, myths and mistakes… as well as the four primary root causes that lead to period pain (because it’s NOT just a hormonal imbalance!).

Make sure to grab your spot here via the link in my bio.

  • Ovulation is the most important day of your menstrual cycle 🐚⠀
⠀
Most women think their period is the main event of their cycle, but I’d argue it’s actually ovulation🌜🌝🌛 ⠀
⠀
If you experience fibroids, cysts, migraines, heavy periods, or fertility issues, and you’re not paying attention to ovulation, then you probably should be 📍⠀
⠀
Women need to ovulate to produce our wonderful sex hormone, progesterone. And if you’re not ovulating, then you’re progesterone deficient, and therefor end up with unopposed estrogen (because progesterone helps keep estrogen in balance⚖️). This is when all the symptoms come rushing in.⠀
⠀
🐚 Fact 1: You can have your period without ovulating, so just because you’re bleeding doesn’t mean you’re ovulating.⠀
⠀
🐚 Fact 2: Ovulation increases your BBT, so your temperature will be slightly higher for the two weeks before your period.⠀
⠀
🐚 Fact 3: Progesterone is needed for long-term health (not just to conceive). According to Canadian endocrinology professor Jerilynn Prior, “women benefit from 35 to 40 years of ovulatory cycles, not just for fertility but also to prevent osteoporosis, stroke, dementia, heart disease, and breast cancer.”⠀
⠀
If you’re struggling with symptoms, and need help to determine if you’re ovulating, send me a DM or comment below 👇 I’m happy to help 💜🐚💜

If you experience fibroids, cysts, migraines, heavy periods, or fertility issues, and you’re not paying attention to ovulation, then you probably should be 📍⠀

🐚 Fact 1: You can have your period without ovulating, so just because you’re bleeding doesn’t mean you’re ovulating.⠀

🐚 Fact 2: Ovulation increases your BBT, so your temperature will be slightly higher for the two weeks before your period.⠀

If you’re struggling with symptoms, and need help to determine if you’re ovulating, send me a DM or comment below 👇 I’m happy to help 💜🐚💜

  • 😓 Is oestrogen dominance causing you grief?

Oestrogen dominance is related to the balance between oestrogen and progesterone during our luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.

Oestrogen dominance can be due to high levels of oestrogen or low levels of progesterone, or both.

Some common reasons for oestrogen dominance include:

🌻 High and chronic stress levels
🌻 Low fibre
🌻 Nutrient deficiency
🌻 Lack of healthy fats
🌻 Impaired immune function
🌻 Plastics/environment
🌻 Imbalance of gut microbiota
🌻 Constipation
🌻 Liver damage
🌻 High consumption of alcohol/drugs or other toxins

Are you experiencing any of these symptoms?

Eliminating those may help balance your oestrogen and progesterone and reduce your symptoms. 👆👆👆

  • Quick-Pickled Veggies!
.
.
.
Quick pickling is simple, delicious and an amazing way to use up some veggies in your fridge before they go bad!
.
Also, pickled veggies are a perfect topping for just about anything. My favorite are cucumbers, red onion and beets🥒🧅
.
Ingredients:
Veggie of choice
4-6 oz apple cider vinegar
4-6 oz water
1-2 tbsp sweetener of choice (I used honey)
Salt & pepper
Optional: garlic clove, spices of choice

Directions:
1. In a 16 oz mason jar or glass container of choice, add veggies, thinly sliced.
2. Next, add water, apple cider vinegar, sweetener, salt and pepper, and any optional ingredients.
3. Put the cover on the mason jar and shake until mixed. You can eat them right away but the flavor gets better after a few days of sitting in the pickling liquid. Store in the refrigerator!

  • You are not broken. You are not "wrong"
.
Whatever is going on with your cycle right now is not a reflection on you as a person.
.
We are living, breathing, natural organisms. Our biochemistry is constantly shifting and changing.
.
If you are experiencing hormonal imbalances like irregular or missing periods, hormonal acne, painful menstrual cramps, PCOS, etc then you are NOT ALONE.
.
This does not mean you are destined to suffer. Healing is always possible.
.
But it does mean that your body is trying to communicate with you.
.
Your period is your FIFTH VITAL SIGN. Like your body temperature, pulse and breathing rate our period and menstrual cycle is a reflection of our overall health.
.
If you are experiencing hormonal imbalances, then your body is TRYING TO SPEAK TO YOU.
.
Don't ignore it. And don't just apply bandaid fixes. Listen to it and support it. YOU DESERVE THAT.

If you're experiencing hormonal imbalances then my upcoming programme, Healthy Hormone Bootcamp can help. It will take you through my blueprint to heal your symptoms from the root cause. Sign up for the wait list through the link in my bio.

  • I love reading. 📖 I also love simplifying my life, so I’ve traded in my big library of books for my iPad library of ebooks. The iPad has issues, though, which have been keeping me from enjoying a good read as often as I’d like. The charge doesn’t last long and it takes forever to recharge, screen glare in bright light is awful and it is difficult to get just the right lighting and font for me to be comfortable reading at night. So I got a Kindle after finally seeing one up close. They’re small and light and read almost like actual books but without the bulk! Now I can read when I’m getting some bright sunlight ☀️ to make some vitamin D for the day and it’s easy to see the screen. I can also read in bed at night 🌙 really well with a screen that automatically adjusts the color of the light so it doesn’t keep me from falling asleep. And it’ll be great for traveling, whenever that happens again, because I can put thousands of books on it and the charge lasts for weeks! 👍😃

  • When it comes to our periods, we tend to put up with a tonnn of BS symptoms simply because we think it's the norm, and because we assume there isn't anything we can do about it. But in reality, your period is like your monthly report card for your body that could be trying to tell you that something's up!

I'm going to get into various period and cycle problems this week and talk about what hormonal imbalances may be going on, and what you can do to correct them.

First, I do want to lay some groundwork about the difference between a cycle and a period, because these do tend to get used interchangeably.

Your menstrual cycle starts the first day of your period and goes up until the first day of your next period. Your period only involves the days you bleed.

Let's outline what a normal cycle should look like:

1. Cycle lasting 21-35 days
2. Period lasting 3-7 days
3. Ovulate every cycle
4. Light to moderate cramping during period is normal
5. Some fatigue during period is normal
6. Average loss of 30-60 mL of blood loss each period
7. Some spotting a couple days prior to period is normal

Stay tuned this week while I touch on each of these common things that could be going on with your cycle!

  • Let’s talk about the hormones that are out of balance when you have trouble losing weight!⁣
⁣
I so often hear “I exercise daily, eat healthy food or limit my food intake yet I cannot lose weight!”⁣
⁣
Ok, so a very brief run through of these hormones that are key in weight management...⁣
⁣
𝙊𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙣: Having too much oestrogen, or poorly detoxified oestrogen, causes a number of symptoms.⁣
One of these being weight gain, especially in the hips, butt and thighs. Fat cells can also produce estrone (a form of oestrogen). So maintaining a healthy body weight reduces the production of estrone.⁣
⁣
𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙞𝙣: Eating too much sugar (or having insulin resistance) means your cells cannot absorb the extra blood glucose your body generates from the food you eat anymore. So the liver changes the glucose into fat which causes weight gain and sugar addiction.⁣
⁣
𝘈𝘭𝘰𝘵 of the time 𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘰𝘭 is the main hormone out of balance. When this is the case, your stress response never shuts off. So you are making too much cortisol at the expense of other hormones.⁣
⁣
𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙡: Is our stress hormone that is meant to regulate our HPA axis. However, with repeated exposure to daily life stressors cortisol isn’t regulated and remains high. And high cortisol = weight gain in a lot of women.⁣
This dis-regulation leads to feeling like you’re racing from task to task, quickness to anger and irritability, a wired but tired feeling, anxiety and a host of other symptoms.⁣
⁣
Do you feel connected to your body? Are any of the above issues for you? If so, reach out through DM or leave a comment. Save this post for future reference 💛⁣

  • Vitamin D. We know it is important and how good does sunshine feel!?
.
At a time when most of the world is stuck inside, making sure we get adequate sunshine is so important. And of course, it supports our hormonal health.
.
Vitamin D is synthesised in the liver, when we are exposed to adequate levels of sunshine.
.
Did you know, the tone of your skin influences how much sunlight you need to enable adequate vitamin D conversion. Generally, people with lighter skin need less sunshine to get enough vitamin D.
.
We need enough CHOLESTEROL in our skin for conversion of vitamin D. Cholesterol is also the building block of our sex hormones!
.
And vitamin D is critical for our female hormones in the following ways:
.
💜 Supports ovary health and production of healthy egg follicles which is tied to ovulation.
.
🧡 Low levels of vitamin D are linked with a higher chance of ovarian cysts and endometrial inflammation.
.
💙 Key nutrient for our immune system which means our body can better manage inflammation and stress.

💛 Supports regulation of cycles where PCOS is observed.
.
So make sure that exposure to sunlight is on your agenda this week. Oily fish is also a great source of vitamin D.

  • The entire universe of the egg is fluid. 🧜‍♀️

What is in the water internal to the egg?

Hormones, nutrients, energy.

Water is a transport system. It transports hormones and nutrients in, and waste out.

No water =no signals no food no fertility. ☠️

Water in the body is considered the blood and yin substances that support the nourishment and suppleness of the skin, hair, nails, and fertility. If blood and yin are deficient or lacking, we need to nourish the body to counteract the dryness, heat, irritability, and other symptoms that manifest. We'll talk about some herbs that can help you tonify and nourish your yin and blood in a future post.

You can find more support over at FertilityResetOnline.com. Find the egg nourishing acupressure protocol and a few other goodies when you subscribe to my newsletter.

  • Personalised or general nutrition advice - which one do you choose?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There is so much confusing nutrition information circulating on social media. More often than not, based on personal dietary choices rather than coming from a professional who gained their expertise through years of studying and practice.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I get that, before I became a Nutritional Therapist I used to follow influencer accounts of people who have been struggling with hormonal cystic acne and PMS in the hope that whatever they were using, would help me.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It hadn’t.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I spent a lot of time trying to figure things out, follow what others were doing, whether it felt right to me and my body or not (being a raw, grain-free vegan wasn’t the answer!). I was also spending a lot of money on expensive supplements and skincare products hoping that the next thing would be the magic solution to my issues!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Or that I would finally get rid of the mood swings, cravings and bloating in the lead up to my period.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But it wasn’t until I decided to seek professional help that I managed to see the long term results I was so desperate for after all the work I’ve been putting into getting better.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I could finally stop worrying about my acne coming back every few months.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was no longer moody, tired and bloated in the lead up to my period.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My periods started to ‘surprise’ me each month - they came on the day with no pain or any other symptoms. Woohoo!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If I did it - so can you! You deserve to put your health and wellbeing in the best hands possible.

Happy August my strong fellow lions!! ⁣
⁣
Some quick lions breath work to become grounded as we start the month. A breath work that seems to cure it all. Wherever you are, take this time, it’s truly magical. Close your eyes and release all of the air from your body- 6 counts in, filling your belly and feeling the air hug your stomach- hold for 4 seconds- here comes my favorite part, deeply let out your biggest lions roar for 6 seconds. Repeat as many times as you need. ⁣
⁣
Now for some foodie lunch dets⁣
•Corn tortillas (are a must with every meal)
•Kale- high in b vitamins and help flush out estrogen more effectively ⁣
•Shroomies- just welcomed these suckers back into my life ⁣
•All the peppers- red, green& yellow⁣
•Sweet white onions ⁣
•Ghee- clarified butta ⁣
•Apple chicken sausage from ⁣@traderjoes
•Salt+pepper⁣
⁣
Wishing you all a beautiful start to your month xox

  • Hormonal imbalances are difficult to treat, as only externally injected hormones can also have other side effects..
There are variety of imbalances..
🧠 Hypothyroidism
🧠 PCOS
🧠 Pituitary diseases
And many more..
And main cause comes as stress!!
💯Treat by Homeopathy so as to treat from the root!!

  • sharing my revision notes 📝 before starting nutrition school I knew vitamins were important but I didn’t know why. i’ve since learnt that they play a crucial role in our hormones, gut health, reproductive system, nervous system and so much more. so today I wanted to share some facts about vitamins, starting with vitamin A.
vitamin A is a potent antioxidant I like to think of as the acne fighter 🚫. it helps preserve good eyesight and is involved in the development of a healthy immune system which is vital for restoring gut balance. the simplest and easiest way to get vitamin A is from wholefoods like sweet potatoes, carrots, mangoes, squash (think orange foods 🥕🍠🥭). and if you eat animal products, good sources are organic eggs, grass-fed liver and grass-fed butter eaten 1-2 a week.
lastly, vitamin A is fat-soluble meaning if we have too much it’s stored in the body and can become toxic. vitamin A from real food and a balanced diet won’t cause this problem, but if you are taking vitamin A supplements or using conventional medications such as acne treatments speak to your doctor about getting your levels tested.
wishing you the happiest of weeks!

  • it's not just what we eat that supports our health, it's what we drink too 🍵. the antioxidants in matcha act as a natural flush for my system, eliminating excess hormones to help with PMS. i drink a cup of this green goodness daily, and because it contains the compound L-theanine it gives me energy without jitters or anxiety. L-theanine is also shown to increase alpha waves in the brain 🧠, which can help decrease stress levels. best of all, matcha lattes are simple to prepare, and a delicious way to add extra nutrients and flavour to my day. if you want to know more i've written a guide to matcha, link is in my bio! the recipe for this coconut matcha latte is on there too 💚
happy tuesday loves!

  • Why do we “get fat?” .
Let me first clarify that if I see excess ‘weight,’ what I am seeing is your body signaling an imbalance. YOU ARE NOT FAT. Your body is holding excess in its adipose tissue, and you are having the experience of extra mass. There is a reason for this and it is NOT a judgement (we don’t like labels over here,) it is a metabolic calibration issue (we like science.) Excess weight, obesity and metabolic disorders are seen very simply in Ayurveda and in functional medicine too, since it comes down to finding the WHY and supporting the body in regulating itself.
.
Food gets utilized in 3 ways in our body:

1. Energy (food -> glucose -> ATP -> energy)

2. Tissue nutrition.

3. Whatever is left over from energy & nourishment is deposited in our adipose storage reserves for a potential crisis.

Why may you become overweight or even obese?

1. Metabolism is normal but you overeat.

2. Metabolism is normal but you are sedentary.

3. You eat properly & move properly, but your metabolism is off.

In Ayurveda we first look at your Agni, or digestive fire, and analyze how much Ama (toxins, stagnation, lack of flow) you’re holding- and WHY. Ama is nothing more than improper Agni, or low, inefficient fire, since your digestive system is the mechanism that processes everything that goes into or onto your body. In functional medicine, we look at your digestive system as well, and your Agni is nothing more than your hormones. You gain weight/fat if these are off.

To “lose weight” therefore, we need to look at how well you’re digesting, what your hormones are doing, if you’re clearing them & if you’re storing toxins. Maybe you need a little more exercise & an adjustment in nutrients, but both of these won’t make much of a difference if the foundation of your digestion/hormones/toxic load is off, so I look here first. Your stress & sleep matter too.

Once we regulate these, your body will adjust naturally to where it wants to be & THAT is when the diet/lifestyle changes will have the greatest impact.

Being healthy is all about your body running efficiently so it doesn’t adjust to store excess, of anything.
Shift from a fat focus to metabolically efficient.

  • Roasted Fall Flavoured Delicata Squash w/ Almond Butter Drizzle 🍂🍁
.
Get out your cinnamon, nutmeg, turmeric & your fall apron cause this fall inspired side is one you are going to want to make 👅
.
Why do I like delicata squash?💭
.
1️⃣It is high in fibre! Fibre is needed to keep things regular, maintain healthy cholesterol levels & prevents blood sugar spikes/dips!
.
2️⃣You can eat the skin! & it actually tastes good! The skin actually holds a lot of the fibre & when roasted its delicious!
.
3️⃣It is easier to cut than most squash! I use a good quality knife & chop off both ends with the squash on a cutting board. Carefully slice it lengthwise. I then take an ice cream scoop & just brush the seeds out— the ice cream scoop is my secret trick & makes it so easy! Then I slice both halves to make the slices you see above!
.
4️⃣Great Vitamin A source: hello great eyesight 👋 👀
.
For my favourite way to prepare it 👇
.
Cut like I explained above then coat with avocado oil (I like @primalkitchenfoods & @chosenfoods ). I use a generous amount of cinnamon, & turmeric to coat the squash well. Then add a bit of nutmeg, pink salt & black pepper (activates the turmeric). Shake to get all the spices & oil evenly coated. Bake at 450F for about 15-20 mins until soft & fragrant! I serve warm with almond butter drizzled over them & it’s the perfect fall addition to any meal! Enjoy ☺️

  • Early morning sunrises and meditations 🧘‍♀️
This sleepy-eyed photo was taken a few weeks ago on our little break in Magnetic Island. My favourite part was waking up pre-sunrise every morning and heading straight down to the rocks on the water and watching the sun peak over the horizon while everyone else around us was still sleeping. There’s nothing more magical than seeing the beginning of the day 🙌🙌 I wish we could start every morning like this! 🧘‍♀️
Are you a morning person ☀️ or a night owl 🦉? I’ve always been in to super early mornings which means I get lots done during the day but I struggle to stay awake at night! My family calls me Granmika 👵🏼😂
