  • This page in the classics made me tear up when I first read it. I turned to a random page today and opened up to this again 🙏🏼✨ #reminders
Does anyone else turn to a random page on the classics and see what they open up to? I focus the rest of my day/week on what it tells. 💗💗💗
Forever grateful for the gift and ongoing knowledge of Ayurveda. 🌱

  • Two of my favorite fresh herbs for summer 🌿 MINT & CILANTRO⁣
⁣
🌿Mint has a refreshing, cooling effect and is helpful for clearing stagnation in the body and mind. Mint is helpful for digestion and cooling to Pitta. ⁣
⁣
🌿Cilantro is often added to spicy dishes because of its cooling nature. Cilantro aids digestion and reduces toxins in the body. This is the best herb for summer or if you are having a Pitta imbalance.

  • Normally you’ll never see ice in my drink; Ayurvedic texts say that cold foods and beverages slow down and hinder the digestive process.
But on a day as hot as this, I can’t resist. Plus, I ate buffalo cauliflower yesterday and my insides are on fire!
So today I went out to the garden, picked myself a cucumber and some tomato; cut up an avocado, added some lemon and olive oil... and there’s my meals for the day!
I really need cooling, nurturing foods today in this weather (and especially after what I ate yesterday).
✨✨✨✨✨
When do you sometimes bend the rules?
Does your body sometimes scream for iced tea or maybe a dark chocolate candy bar?
✨✨
I’m a firm believer in going by the way my body feels to create balance rather than just look to my doshic makeup to decide my diet.
✨✨✨
Love & Light,
Krysten

  • Everyone loves learning what dosha they are! But do you know the difference between your Prakriti and your Vikruti? ✨⠀⁣
⠀⁣
Prakriti is our dosha/doshas that we were born being. It is your constitution and it never changes. ✨⠀⁣
⠀⁣
Vikruti is our current state/current imbalance. It is important to know our current imbalance so we can balance through diet, exercise and daily routines. ✨⠀⁣
⠀⁣
It is important to balance out any imbalances we have so that we can then follow a routine in Ayurvedic harmony with our constitution. Have more questions about your prakriti or vikruti? Schedule a FREE discovery call today! Click the link in bio. ✨

  • I am so proud (elated, grateful) for the choices I have made that has brought me to where I am today as a wife, homeschooling mother, and a woman growing a business to help those in need of mentoring like my mother needed. Nothing happens if nothing happens. You have to take the steps. I have proved to myself that when you do & keep on going, amazing things happen. I will be graduating from the 600-hour Ayurvedic Health Counselor program soon w/ my final exam via zoom with my teacher and practitioner Myra Lewin. A little over a year of dedicated work will have earned me the ability to connect with individuals & offer them tools of self-healing. How amazing is that!? While I can begin practicing, there are still 25 client interactions I need to complete & another final exam to be done if I want to be certified with NAMA, the governing body of Ayurveda here in the USA. Nothing worthwhile comes easy. Returning to finish my MS in Clinical Dietetics along with a 1,200 hour supervised internship will be happening in the next few years along with ongoing studies toward Ayurvedic practitioner level thereafter. Don’t tell me you can’t. Tell me how you can! Your purpose must be strong & must come from a very deep place within you. Then you just watch the things a human being can endure for the higher good. My loving God and Savior Jesus Christ gave me a vision and I took that vision and slowly started making the choices necessary to see the vision come to pass, with the help and support of my loving husband. There I was after losing my mother and having other disheartening occurrences happen, thinking I was going to lose my life or suffer in life in the same manner I saw growing up. When God wants to break the chains, follow Him! I had to lay aside the obstacles and charge forward into the unknowns that I knew God was there ready to guide me through. I love my life. I have been given some amazing opportunities and that’s a spirit that will not allow to be crushed. I want to guide you to do the same in your life...continued in comments ...

  • A facial steam is one of my favorite skin rituals. It cleanses, detoxifies and stimulates circulation. Great to do 1x/week before a mask!⁣
⠀⁣
🌸DIY Floral Facial Steam⠀⁣
-Dried hibiscus flowers ⠀⁣
-Dried lavender⠀⁣
-Dried calendula flowers⠀⁣
⠀⁣
Pour boiling water over the dried flowers. Place face 5-10 in. from the steam and breathe deeply for up to 10 min. After, apply a mask to opened pores or splash face with cold water and apply your moisturizer. 🌸

  • A Student This Year🙏🏽
•
••
•
Learning how to teach a new form of movement is both empowering and humbling.
•
••
Climbing mountains, swimming in waterfalls, solo yoga flows, DANCE✨
Our bodies thrive when we can reward them with the freedom to move, to express, to release.
•
Can we re-frame ‘time to exercise’ to...
‘time to play’
or
‘time to care’?
••
I’ve been realizing I feel best in my skin when I’m moving with variety and moving in ways similarly to how I used to move when I was a child✨💃🏼
*****The mindset you take towards moving your body is just as important as the movement you are giving it.
(I wish I could scream that at my younger self)
•
Be the student.
Find re-inspiration & freedom.
Appreciate all our teachers🌎.
Get excited about change.
••
Movement is Soul Connection.
...And sometimes very challenging, when you’re not even in “the challenge zone” yet!😂🙌🏽

  • One of my favorite parts of life lately...
•
••
•
Has been trying to see how fully present I can be.
••
You know how when you see/hear about a past memory and it’s so strong it feels as if just by a single taste you’re brought back?
Like actually hear the river, smell the mountains again...
How quiet can I be...how small...what do I hear when I actually listen?
Those moments.✨
•
The reason why they are so strong, so impactful...
I consciously directed my energy to FEEL the experience in its entirety...
in pure amazement & gratitude.
•
••
•
Always reminding myself the only way to remain open to Give & Receive is through presence.
🙏🏽

  • Ayurveda is a science that incorporates personalized diet and lifestyle for each individual. Below are the four pillars of Ayurvedic nutrition:⠀⁣
⠀⁣
✨Aahara (Diet): Ayurveda believes there is no standard diet for everyone. Diet is individualized based on your dosha. ⁣
⠀⁣
✨Asana (Yoga and Meditation): Yoga is the ideal Ayurvedic exercise because it rejuvenates the body, improves digestion and relieves stress. ⠀⁣

✨Aahara (Diet): Ayurveda believes there is no standard diet for everyone. Diet is individualized based on your dosha. ⁣

  • Finishing my final exam consultation assessment before baby Moriyah Rain gets here! Final exam with my teacher #myralewin @halepule in a little over a week. Having some “ripe and ready” tea brewing next to me with a little raw honey. I used to have herbal teas without adding anything to it, but now I always add a bit of raw honey. Honey is an anupan or carrier, helping to deliver the herbs and their protective benefits to the dhatus or tissues and cells of the body. Honey should be cared for by adding to warm not hot items, as it is believed to be toxic when cooked (becomes like glue in the body). Enjoy your next cup of warm tea with raw honey, while you wind down to do your work.

  • What do you get in an Ayurvedic consultation? A lot of things you don't from a visit to your traditional Western doctor—including respect for these guys, not just as organs but the whole flourishing ecosystem of your mind, body, and spirit.
.
An Ayurvedic consultation is about more than treating your symptoms. Through discussion, self-reflection, and sometimes awkward questions (yep, we're talking about poop!), together we can reveal the root cause of an imbalance as it's effecting that MBS trifecta. It's often surprising to clients how the pieces of the puzzle fit together when you take time to acknowledge the small, daily habits that might have built up over time to make you feel icky.
.
Then comes the fun part. By playing in the kitchen, making time for nourishing self-care rituals, and possibly throwing a few herbs in the mix, we create a custom blend of potent medicine that you won't have to choke down in a chalky pill. Maintaining good habits, stripping away what's not working, and being curious to what can fill those spaces, we craft a daily routine that offers healing every moment of every day until you're back to feeling like your beautiful, vibrant self.
.
Are you ready to embrace a new definition of health? My one-on-one virtual Ayurvedic consultations are on a sliding scale, and as part of my new 5-week Intro to Ayurveda series (starting 7/25) you can get a free 30-minute consultation to get you started on the journey to wellness. Sign up with the #linkinbio, or email me with questions! Plus, check out my new blog post that goes into more detail about how an Ayurvedic consultation can support your self-healing.

  • As many of you know, I found Ayurveda through the pathway of yoga. Ayurveda is the sister science of yoga; it was also the first medical science to acknowledge the importance of mental wellness in relation to optimal health. 🌿⠀⁣
⠀⁣
Ayurveda provides individualized guidelines for diet, lifestyle and exercise based on your specific dosha needs. Ayurveda is not a fad diet or a quick fix; it is a series of lifestyle changes to achieve wellness and health. 🌿⠀⁣

  • Made it home from India and had this bugger waiting for me in the mail 🇮🇳✉️❤️
Officially a graduate of the California College of Ayurveda as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor! Yes I am celebrating!
2 years of studying (including a 6 month Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist program at the @himalayan_institute and a 6 month internship) over 1300 hours of credit hours, 1 year off for fulfilling a hearts desire to travel the world, a lot of ghee and adaptogenic herbs later, and here I am.
.
.
This is the end of a chapter for me that represented transformation and manifestation. Now begins the endless journey of continuing as a student, and offering my services to the community to educate, inspire and guide people through holistic health practices that ultimately cultivate an internal landscape where thought processes/choices in day to day life are influenced from higher consciousness rather than habit. Ultimately this leads to a more united community and planet. Hence the name of my company, UniDhi Ayurveda and Yoga. Uni being one, and Dhi meaning intuition or intelligence of intuition. Healing globally starts individually, and in the gut! Here's to lots of CCF Tea moving forward 🍵

  • As spring moves to summer on this auspicious day, I see the eternal truth in ether, air, fire, water and earth. 🪐🌊🔥💧🌍
.
Today, I’m a graduated Ayurvedic Health Counselor from @kripalucenter! It’s been an 850+ hour journey in 9 months amid a global pandemic, socioeconomic crisis, full time business, part time job, family and all the other obstacles that could have stepped in my way. Thanks Ganesha for clearing that path for me. 🙏🐘✨
.
Ayurveda is a magical truth that resides in each of us. It’s my mission to share this innate wisdom to help and heal others and myself.
.
So much gratitude for my teachers @erincasperson @lauren_gernady @drclaudiawelch and all the other amazing faculty. Thank you to @cherwatanabe @evilhidi @martini_jill for allowing me to test my learnings on you and for @jasonlbaptiste’s unrelenting encouragement. .
.
.
I’m nothing without the sangha that uplifts me. Congrats to the “SMART”class of KSA 15!! May we share these gifts with the world, far and wide in our own divine ways! 🧡🎉🥳

  • I did two things this week that I had been nervous/scared about doing.

1. Teaching the first module of my Ayurvedic intensive course as part of the teacher training at @avenuesyoga

2.....did a thing that I'm not ready to announce totally, but the meaning behind the act is worth sharing.

It was a big choice for many reasons. Mainly for me it's judgement. I worry about the judgement from my friends and family (they are not wrong to worry sometimes ;)). I worry that they will wonder-what exactly I am doing with my life? ... Doing this weird Ayurvedic thing, traveling the world for a year alone, and now this? (you'll find out what 'this' is soon enough)

But here's the thing-- should I not do the things that pull on my heart strings because I worry about the approval, understanding, or acceptance from those around me? You know the answer.
I am a logical and disciplined person, most of the time. I understand the concept of delayed gratification very well, as well as the beauty of indulgence.

If I learned anything from my year of travelling through 19 different countries, its that I should listen to myself. To trust and act on what I feel (however its a catch 22 because technically every choice you make is the right one because it will lead you to whatever learning you need, but if you listen to your souls voice and act on it from the get go, it leads to less suffering and is a more direct way to get where you need to be). The point is, staying small or within the confines of what society tells us is acceptable can put out your flame of desire, passion and purpose. Take time to connect and listen to that soft little nudge within you. And then act.

The opposite of fear is faith. Trust. Easier said than done, I know. But we start by turning an ear inwards.

  • This selfie is from a year ago.
.
I was beaming with love while vending at the @thehalfmoonmarket I mean, that glow, right!?
.
My heart was wide open. I think this was the first time I felt able to communicate the energy work and the ‘woo-woo’ that goes into the products I make. And people were totally receptive! 🙏🏼✨
.
Tonight, my heart also feels wide open. But in a different way. I feel emotional, nervous, vulnerable, and confused- much like the rest of the world. .
Truthfully, I’m a little stressed over here at Birchstone HQ. All of my events for spring have been cancelled and this is where most of my sales come from.
.
And I’m not alone here. Many small businesses are reworking their structure- offering virtual classes and marketplaces, discounted goods, or curbside pickup.
.
But I remind myself that health + healing have always been my passion. This is my life’s work. .
I’ve wanted to deepen my Birchstone Apothecary offerings for quite some time. And now that we’re in the midst of a pandemic, I realize the time is now. No more procrastination. We need healing. .
I have many ideas brewing, but I want to ask you- want do you need? How can I help? As a yoga teacher, reiki master, ayurvedic health counselor, and skincare formulator- what can I give you? I want to help heal the world in so many ways but I want to hear your immediate needs, no matter how wild. Comment below and tell me!

  • I’m writing this reminder as much for you as for me.

The world is upside down right now.
Things are as they have never been before in our lifetime.
It’s okay if your days look different, if your routines are different.

It’s okay to sleep until 8am.
It’s okay to go to bed at 8pm.
It’s okay to skip breakfast.
It’s okay to cook more than you ever have.
It’s okay to be still.
It’s okay to move a lot.
It’s okay to take up running.
It’s okay to stop running.
It’s okay to fall in love with restorative yoga.
It’s okay to fall in love with a vigorous practice.
It’s okay to cry in your car.
It’s okay to laugh with your friend.
It’s okay to love homeschooling your kids.
It’s okay to hide from your kids.
It’s okay to be quiet.
It’s okay to be loud.
It’s okay to mow the lawn.
It’s okay to leave the dishes undone.

It’s okay to be sad, mad, and glad all in a span of 20 seconds.

It’s okay to figure it out as you go.

It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay.

  • The origin of the earth element is the tanmatra of smell called gandha. The state of the earth element in the body and the capacity to smell are deeply connected. Gandha tanmatra is the casual body, which sprouts into the heart earth element. The earth element then builds the potential for the experience of smell in the subtle body and the structures through which smell can be experienced in the physical body. Thus, the gandha tanmatra is no the smell itself but smell is dependent upon it. Disorders of the ability to smell reflect an imbalance of the earth element. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
