Mars Colour #Camera (MCC) onboard Mars Orbiter Mission has imaged #Phobos, the closest and biggest moon of Mars, on 1st July when #MOM was about 7200 km from Mars and at 4200 km from Phobos. Spatial resolution of the image is 210 m. This is a composite image generated from 6 MCC frames and has been color corrected.
Phobos is largely believed to be made up of carbonaceous chondrites. The violent phase that Phobos has encountered is seen in the large section gouged out from a past collision (Stickney crater) and bouncing ejecta. Stickney, the largest crater on Phobos along with the other craters (Shklovsky, Roche & Grildrig) are also seen in this image.

  • A space suit is a garment worn to keep a human alive in the harsh environment of outer space, vacuum and temperature extremes. Space suits are often worn inside spacecraft as a safety precaution in case of loss of cabin pressure, and are necessary for extravehicular activity (EVA), work done outside spacecraft.

Three types of space suits exist for different purposes -

IVA (intravehicular activity), EVA (extravehicular activity), and IEVA (intra/extravehicular activity).

IVA suits are meant to be worn inside a pressurized spacecraft, and are therefore lighter and more comfortable.

IEVA suits are meant for use inside and outside the spacecraft, such as the Gemini G4C suit. They include more protection from the harsh conditions of space, such as protection from micrometeorites and extreme temperature change.

EVA suits, such as the EMU, are used outside spacecraft, for either planetary exploration or spacewalks. They must protect the wearer against all conditions of space, as well as provide mobility and functionality.

  • All right friends, I did the sample workout for Muscle Burns Fat yesterday and as the Pointer Sisters say I'M SO EXCITED!

Feedback is starting to come in from my friends who have also tried it.  Here's what they have to say:

*LOVED the trainer
*Liked the faster pace of the workout
*Great combinations of moves
*We were all sweating!
*I liked it even though I didn't have the jump rope things yet!
*It's so good!  Do we have to wait to December to have access to this? (NO you don't!)
.
Here's what I thought:
.
*Defininely have a crossfit feel to it with AMPAPs and EMOM style workouts.
*I don't have the indoor jump ropes yet either, but I loved that element of a cardio spike after each set. 
*I loved that Covid didn't stop them from releasing this on schedule.  The cast was all working out in their houses, rather than on set, which was so relatable to everyone these days.
*As always, love the modifier option.  They showed her alot and even Megan, the trainer, took the modifier in the core section.
*Megan is huge on form and making sure to explain the correct way to do something.

I can't wait to dive into this starting July 8th with my team to see what results we get FIRST and then start all over on August 3rd with our coach and client group!

  • SpaceX successfully launched its 11th mission of the year, lofting a next-generation global positioning satellite into space for the U.S. Space Force. 
A shiny, white Falcon 9 rocket took to the skies today (June 30) at 4:10 p.m. EDT (2010 GMT), taking off from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. 
Today’s launch is part of an ongoing effort by the Department of Defense to upgrade GPS satellites currently in space. The constellation of aging GPS satellites was launched roughly 20 years ago and technology has changed significantly in that time. The particular satellite launched today will replace one of the oldest ones in orbit. 
Built by Lockheed Martin, this is the third GPS satellite of its kind to launch and will join two others just like it that are already in orbit. SpaceX launched one of those two satellites on a different Falcon 9 rocket in December 2018 and the other satellite launched atop the very last Delta IV Medium rocket in August 2019.

It’s been almost 4 months since we “paused” the flight training and I always tried to keep positive about the outcomes. 
Happy fact is that we should have exams at the end of July and I am more than happy to come back to CAE soon.

I guess we, in aviation, understand each other and stay strong together. We are family 🛩
.

In preparation for tomorrow’s Demo-2 launch we dropped some mission essential personnel off in Long Beach today with our GIII. Tomorrow is a big deal because it’s the first time in nearly a decade that we will launch astronauts from American soil.   • A lot of you were curious about why SpaceX had to launch at exactly 4:33pm yesterday. Well… the answer is physics! Or more specifically, spaceflight dynamics! 🚀🛰Don’t fret, it’s pretty simple! .

A launch window is the period of time in which the rocket needs to launch to meet up with its desired target, in this case the International Space Station. @iss .

To get there, we want to be as efficient as possible. Efficient means cheaper (less fuel used). It also means more comfortable (less time spent in the capsule). 💰🧑🏻‍🚀 .

The ISS orbits the Earth once every 90 minutes. 🌍

The Earth also rotates. This means when the ISS comes back to the “same point” in its orbit, it’s actually passing over a different part of the Earth than it was 90 minutes prior. .

We want the ISS’s orbit to be directly over Kennedy Space Center when we launch so that we are in the same plane as the target orbit. Imagine a piece of paper (our “plane”) slicing through Earth at Kennedy with the ISS orbiting on the edge. If the paper moves to the left or right (because the Earth rotates too), Dragon will have to travel farther to meet up with the ISS, which costs more (rocket fuel is expensive) and extends the length of the trip. .

Imagine wanting to merge onto a highway. Your trip would be much faster and cheaper if you’re already on the road that merges with the highway rather than being 5 roads away and having to find the highway and then merge. .

As to why you have to launch at precisely the the right moment, imagine you’re a quarterback throwing a ball to your receiver as he runs into the end zone. You need to time your throw precisely with where he’s going to be when the ball reaches him, or else he won’t catch it in time. The same thought applies here!

I have tried to draw out a plan for the week but working from home 🏠has its ups and downs. It gives the leisure of working on your own time but also has it added distractions.

To stay away from these, I am now trying to start work latest by 9 am and stop at 6 pm. I feel it gives a form of structure and coherence to a day of work. 
____

Apart from that, dedicating some 🕰 time to side activities can also make you productive and not leaving you feel bored of just one activity!

  • A virtual 𝓱𝓮𝓵𝓵𝓸 to the new faces around here! 🙋🏽‍♀️ I thought it was about time for another introduction so we can learn more about each other.

I’m a mechanical (@rit.alumni) & aerospace (@gtalumni) engineer working at NASA’s Johnson Space Center. I mostly work and fly on our Gulfstream aircraft like the one behind me. 
My group maintains and performs upgrades to a fleet of over 20 aircraft whose missions include training astronauts, flying airborne science campaigns all over the world, and returning the astronauts to Houston after a wild ride back from the International Space Station.

Although I’d pretty much call this my dream job, I recently applied to @nasa’s call to #BeAnAstronaut which would be icing on the cake if you ask me!
