  • Festiwal T-Mobile Nowe Horyzonty to był kulturalny majstersztyk, z którego mieliśmy przyjemność realizować podsumowującą event relację filmową. |
Nowym, magentowym!

  • Bre always told me about working at Sea World and the passion the people have for their animals and their teams. I just never expected that passion would show up in the living room with a kangaroo??
The old school Sea world crew made their presence felt in a big way. They reached out to Bryan and Tiffany who brought a kangaroo, a serval, and a screech owl to Bre’s bedside!
To see her smile like that while she’s going through this was the greatest gift anyone could ever give us.
From the bottom of my heart. Thank you!

  • There was still some confusion as to the reality of the situation. Bre never really advertised how serious this was. So I posted the following to Facebook.

Bre is now in hospice care. That means we have ceased all treatments to slow the cancer or prolong her life. Bre was in treatment for exactly one year and despite 3 surgeries, 14 radiation treatments, 30 chemo infusions countless admissions, and thousands of hours at the hospital, the cancer hasn’t stopped growing.
The cancer spread to the lymph nodes, sternum, spine, marrow, and into leptomeningeal disease, A form of brain cancer with limited options.
Bre and I always thought we’d make it out the other end, or get some time in remission. Now I realize we won’t get either of those things and I wanted to share this last step in the fight.
Yes, Bre understands what is going on. We knew going into this we might be on the clock so we stole what time we could to live our lives as she wanted this year.
Yes, She is in a lot of pain, our hospice team is doing everything they can to keep her comfortable. She is heavily medicated but constantly surrounded by people that love her and 5 dogs.
Yes, We have done everything we can. We have explored every potential trial in every international database. We have spoken to naturopaths, cbd/thc oil people, tnbc specialists and every oncologist doctor, nurse, patient, or caregiver of tnbc and/or leptomeningeal disease patients just to be certain we exhausted every potential treatment. I’ve cold called a lot of people just to ask them if they had tried or been prescribed anything different than what was recommended to us.
Stage 4 cancer is just unpredictable, it can go into remission and disappear for years, or sometimes it cant be stopped. For us there was simply no winning this fight.
There is no telling how long we have, but if you’re reading this I’m sure you know how strong she is. Bre is a fighter and nobody writes her story but her.

You know you’ve found someone truly special when you can laugh your way through the worst of times.
I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world right now, I belong at your side. I’m very proud of you and I’m so happy you’re my wife!
The amount of fight in Breanna King Schipul is beyond measure! (My Fb post)
Bre and I shared sooo many laughs, at the hospital, during infusions, before and after surgeries, and during *ahem, "awkward" moments? @ktg991 The most important part of our relationship was the mental part, and we were so connected in our humor that we could laugh through anything that hurt us. We made all kinds of cancer jokes and cancer hashtags like
#itsnotcalledenjoyingcancer
The very first thing we did after she was diagnosed was watch the Archer breast cancer episodes, @ambercnash it was perfect for us. We made shirts that said team live badass on them, she braided my hair in the chemo ward, we watched parks and Rec while we waited countless hours for whatever, we made inappropriate jokes about absolutely everything and we laughed constantly for an entire year of cancer treatment.

  • Immediately after the stormtroopers left, Bre had another seizure. We had to call 911 several times for lift assistance to get her into bed, but we needed constant help now so it was hospice time.
We interviewed 3 companies and the third was a perfect fit.The hospice team really made us feel cared for.
Bre was sleeping a lot so they brought a hospital style bed to make her more comfortable.
We went quickly from 2 visits a week to visits everyday. Her vitals were always strong but the disease was progressing rapidly.
We moved my bed next to hers in the living room so she was never alone and we watched an absolute ton of movies. Every single Disney movie, Brave, Moana,Captain Marvel, guardians of the galaxy, anything that looked good. Dr. Who episodes, I made her watch the chase scene from the original Gone in 60 seconds.
I played her love songs on the Ukulele much to her surprise. The first time I sang to her she just stared at me in shock.
I held her hand constantly and just talked to her as much as I could.

  • Bre loved her cosplay, she learned to sew just so she could make a rocket raccoon outfit,a Merida dress, nebula arms and dog collars. (She never gave herself enough credit for being so creative!!) On her to do list was to go to a major comic con in full outfits. Which we never got to do. So what I did was call the 501st to see if they could come over to the house.
Not only did the empire show up, but Luke, Rey, and another Jedi came too!
I knew Rey was her favorite just because she's the galaxys only hope and she's a girl, but she loved them all, even the evil empire's storm troopers #badguysdoinggood
When you're in front of these people it's really special, I felt like a kid again. We asked them a million questions and I'm pretty sure at some point I'll join the local chapter lol.
It was no small feat for them to come over. Three cars filled with boxes of their equipment, they got dressed in the garage, and they had already made an appearance earlier that day.
I can't say thank you enough, these people went out of their way to come see her and they made us all smile during one of the worst points of my life. #tnbc #ftnbc #triplenegativebreastcancer #leptomets #tmnh #fuckcancer #fcancer #tnbc #lepto #metastasis #triplenegativebreastcancer #triplenegativebullshit #itsnotcalledenjoyingcancer

  • I used to get so scared when Bre couldn't remember my name, but now it was a fight to even communicate. Memory loss and confusion were side effects of the whole brain radiation and cancer, but on top of that now we also had mobility issues. Moving her was dangerous because it could trigger seizures, and every seizure could potentially do massive damage.
We had stopped treatment but she was still taking almost 20 doses a day of her normal medications. We didn't have to go places anymore but the days were blending together into taking pills and nap time.
We knew This time was a gift and we were determined to enjoy it, so out came the stuff to do in Missouri list and I tried to find anything we could bring to the house to keep her mind working! First up. Falcons!!!
I started following the Missouri falconers association awhile back and messaged them about potentially bringing a raptor to see Bre, and an amazing family responded! They drove 2 and a half hours on a cold wet icy day to come see her and bring two of their falcons to fly them in the front yard of the house!!
To see my wife smile was the most amazing gift, and it was given by strangers who went so far out of their way to help us out. I can never repay kindness like that, but I will damn well try.

Hello family and friends!

We’re going to talk about the cutest addition to our family! The fluffiest little puppy has joined our family, and he is absolutely adorable! His name is Rikku, @rikkuthefreckledfloof and that cutest little floof is having the time of his life playing with all of us. He is getting a ton of new toys, and we’re working on the potty training to make sure that he doesn’t go too crazy. We also have to be careful because the little puppy can disappear under the chair. The best part of having this puppy? He is the cutest little hyena. -Ship
Remember #nocancernofloof ? Well, Bre's Mom came through huge with a puppy floof! There's an amazing video of her opening the box on his page. Best distraction ever, puppies make everything better.

  • Now, since the metastasis to her brain, the quiet subtext in every appointment was "when are we stopping treatment". We knew this, Bre knew this, it was just never officially decided until after radiation.
Bre was sometimes 100% keep fighting and sometimes 100% stop fighting. There were still treatment options available, a systemic chemotherapy combined with a new immunotherapy had just been approved for tnbc patients.
We owed it to her to go in one more time and ask hard questions. Neatly summarized, further treatments would only hurt her, and Immunotherapy trials were off the table because she was too weak.
So after all that, there was nothing more.

116 metastatic breast cancer patients have died since I posted yesterday.
Bre decided to have the radiation treatments in Springfield and not travel to KU. Our doctor also ruled out a trip to MD Anderson with one phone call. (Love our oncologist Dr.S)
The radiation team was great, they let me help position her in the room, they let us play Disney music during treatments and her parents came with us every single day just to keep us safe. Bre was still laughing and smiling through all of this! And she was eating mexican food now? #braincancer
It was getting difficult to move her because any changes in her blood pressure would trigger seizures. The seizures started happening about a week apart but increased in frequency with movement.
If I lifted her it caused terrible pain in her back. If anyone else lifted her it hurt less but there was a risk of falling. We tried gait belts, wheelchairs, walkers as wheelchairs, her dad built a frame that raised her favorite chair up, we got tall seats, and anything to lessen her movements. We even had one of the dogs christened an emotional support animal so he could come and chill at the hospital to keep her blood pressure low. We made it through the first four treatments just fine, but number five was too much. Bre had her longest seizure here on the treatment table on feb 1st.
There’s just not much to be done during a seizure, even at the hospital. We always just held her hand and talked to her. That seemed to help her relax? You just feel so helpless..
She was able to recover and finish the last radiation treatment, we even went to the infusion center for some fluids and saw all our favorite nurses one more time!

  • Bre had a smaller seizure months ago, but this was a real life big scary type seizure. EMT’s got her loaded up and tried leaving without me, then they tried sticking her arm without lymph nodes which is another big no no.
On the way to the hospital she had another seizure. We went straight into a trauma room, had scans and labs which revealed epileptic activity and progression of the cancer in the brain.
The good news was we could increase her anti seizure meds, Bad news was One of the scans also showed cancer “peppered” all up and down her spine, and in her bone marrow as well.
This metastasis explained her increasing weakness and inability to stand or walk on her own as well as her increasing confusion.
Her pain level must have been excruciating...
They upped all her medications and planned 5 palliative radiation treatments to her spine to try and ease her pain.
She was admitted overnight again for all these scans and meds to take effect, One of the worse overnights we’ve had. Scans in the middle of the night, a syringe exploded in my face. I had to ask for the charge nurse twice because people kept messing up.
This was her last hospital stay, and it wasn’t over soon enough. Leaving the hospital this time felt like dodging a bullet, not like we won anything, more like we escaped.

  • The doctors told me we were taking a big risk by waiting to get married after the leptomeningeal metastasis, But Breanna pushed for the Christmas wedding to see her whole family and enjoy her favorite holiday to the fullest!
Bre got continually weaker leading up to the wedding. Almost four months on the steroids had stripped all her leg muscle and she had fallen several times now and needed the walker to get around.
We were doing our own physical therapy in the pool and One day lifting her out I grabbed the handrail and broke my wedding ring!! Less than a month after we got married! Bre wouldn’t let me fix it because it was across the inscription so it is still broken and I still love it.
Bre was so weak that some nights she slept upstairs in the spare bedroom instead of downstairs where we normally stayed. Going up the stairs in the morning had become difficult as we had to lift her up every stair one at a time.
One night while Bre was upstairs alone her mom was letting the dog out and went to go check on her. She wasn’t feeling well so her mom stayed in there and a few minutes later Bre had her first seizure.

  • Bre planned the perfect Christmas wedding! With a lot of help from her mom, sister, Lisa at @venueonbrick and @jessicalana0601 our coordinator.
Her aunt did our flowers, we found an amazing photographer @whitepinepics and my sister made our glittery awesome cake! Our care team gave Bre fluids every week to keep her energized.
We ended up in the emergency room one last time before the ceremony, 10 days out we were dropping the steroid dosage and it was a little too much. This was the ER trip in full makeup, where she was glamming the place up!
They gave her a bag of steroids and we got to go home the next day!
Our wedding was amazing, the Christmas theme was perfect for us, the music was perfect, I don’t think we could have ever asked for anything more! Everyone really put their backs into it for her and I am eternally grateful to them.
Bre is a writer, so her vows were perfect and exacting, mine were ok too lol. We had our own papa John’s pizza at the reception. (Weird tradition) and we danced our first song to one direction haha.
She made me promise to be nice about the cake cutting which I totally was
I can’t think about it without smiling, we had such a great wedding day in Ozark, Missouri. This was never part of the plan but it all worked out the way it was supposed to I believe.

  • -Bre Hello friends! Hopefully your preparations for the holidays are going well!
Today I wanted to write and express my extreme gratitude to each and every one of you for being such amazing and supportive friends and family. I love that you all have constantly been thinking of me, and I have gotten so many packages, letters, and gifts that I can barely keep track of it all! And I do know I have been terrible about writing thank you notes, and for that I am sorry. It’s been a rough few months. Just know that my heart is full, and I am so grateful, even if I didn’t express it openly. I definitely don’t want to seem ungrateful, but when you end up in the hospital twice because you can’t remember your own name, it can be difficult to keep track of things.
It has been a rough few months. After ending up in the hospital twice, we’re trying to avoid any more trips to the ER, which means attempting to safely reduce the chemotherapy, or methotrexate, and the steroids so my brain doesn’t swell up again. The cytology for my spinal fluid did come back negative again, so my oncologist feels comfortable doing chemotherapy every other week, which should help immensely! And we are attempting to reduce the steroid dose by half a pill every week, so hopefully the swelling and extreme weakness will go down a tiny bit.
Between the chemotherapy and the steroids, I’ve had a very hard time walking and standing up. My legs are so weak that there are times I’ve gotten stuck on the toilet because I couldn’t push myself up. And I shake so hard some days, I can’t write anything down, and can only stay in bed, which, unfortunately, has given me bed sores. This, to me, is definitely frustrating, because I want to be able to walk and dance at my wedding with my husband, family, and friends. But I’m not giving up! Hopefully I can continue strengthening myself as we slowly wean down the steroids. I did fall at the oncologist at one point, so now I have to have a handicap sticker and a walker, which is a little weird, but if it keeps me mobile, I am fine with it.

But in even happier news, the wedding is really coming along! (Continued in comments)

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
Today is a day to celebrate family, friends, and everything good that happened over the year. Now, this has been a tough year, not just for me, but also for my wonderful fiancé. But you know what? I don’t really care how tough this year has been. I am so thankful that I was able to fight through everything that has changed, from the mastectomy to the leptomeningeal brain cancer and the radiation, the swelling from the steroids, and the exhaustion from the treatments. And I couldn’t have done it without the love and support of my incredible soon-to-be-husband and my family.

Yes, we are getting married in a small Christmas wedding, and everything has been going so fantastically well for the planning! We have the most amazing ring, our venue is helping us out with amazing decorations and discounts, my family is all able to come, and even a bit of a fiasco with my dress size was able to be remedied, with the seamstress working with me to see if any of the swelling in my body will go down before the wedding. I have never had people work so hard to make our special day so absolutely incredible, and that is something that I am thankful for. Having something to focus on and plan gives me a goal to work towards, and that motivates me to keep moving forward.
So, even though 2018 has been one of the hardest years of my life, and of my fiancé’s life as well, we have so many many things to be thankful for. Friends, family, and clear cytology reports! (That means no cancer cells in my spinal fluid, which means the chemotherapy is working!) I cannot even begin to express how happy I am today to be watching the Thanksgiving Day parade, preparing to eat delicious food, and celebrating with family, because I wasn’t sure if I would be in the hospital again. Thanksgiving is all about focusing on what we’re thankful for. And I have so much to appreciate this year

  • Bre decided to continue treatments in Springfield, so no more road trips or ambulance transfers for us.
She hadn’t had systemic chemo or been to the infusion center since August, and walking back in those doors was a relief. We knew what to do and how to do it, we fell into a rhythm of clinicals and fluids and monthly brain chemotherapy.
It really felt like going back to high school. This is where it all started and it was as comfortable as cancer care can be.
Our infusion center nurses always went out of their way to make sure Bre was comfortable. She always got 3 blankets, 2 bags of baked barbecue chips, and a chocolate ensure drink. We were always in the same room with a bed so she could just rest. Even days with just fluids take a while. These nurses really made a difference and we love them all.

I’m going to finish this

Some People with lepto Mets lose the ability to walk or talk, some go blind or lose their memories! Our thing was confusion and emergency rooms.
After we got back from KU she went straight back to the emergency room. She had just met with the makeup artist for our wedding, so Bre was in full makeup at the ER classing the place up.
They started steroids and processed an ambulance transfer because we still had one more week of radiation at KU and we had to get back.
It’s worth noting at this point that Bre ate A taco at 2am in the emergency room! So you know she was confused. Bre doesn’t like Mexican food.
Got to KU late night and went across the street through the ER and a hundred miles of tunnels and elevators, finally Got to the cancer floor and got her all tucked in with some dry Rice Krispies and absolutely no healthy food. Everyone complimented her lip stick which was still looking good.
Met the same docs, had the same conversations, stayed admitted from Sunday til Wednesday this time around, they let us skip a day of radiation because of a broken machine so she only had 9 treatments total. They said that would be enough.
My sister and her mom met up with us to help us finish the week. my sister ran around in a snowstorm getting us pills and food and Her mom brought us everything we needed to finish radiation week strong. If we didn’t have this support system we never would have gotten through all this.
First snow of the year as we were leaving town.
I tried to get her to just marry me already so no matter what happened we would have that! She said no, she wanted to press on for the Christmas wedding with her whole family surrounding her.
I later read in her journal she wanted to celebrate our wedding, Christmas, New Years, and Valentine’s Day. That was her goal so that is what we did.

The next step for me is radiation treatment. There will be ten days of dosing over two weeks, and it is a full brain dose with hypothalamus protection. The hope is to basically kill off as many layers of that cancer as possible so the chemotherapy can prevent the cancer from spreading, while still protecting my memory center. I am worried about long-term effects: will I be able to remember things? Will I still be able to write? Will it actually work? My oncologist said there is about a 50-60% chance that this treatment will actually remove the cancer. The chemotherapy has made no difference to the tumors so far, so now we’re waiting for the radiation to see if we can kill the cancer. The exciting part? If it works, I can stop the steroids and start feeling better! I have to take the little victories with all this, haha.
-Ship. Bre had a consultation with the radiation oncologist at KU who took Bre off chemo and scheduled 10 treatments. We moved into a hotel in KC, my sister made us lasagna and Everyday she had 15 minutes of treatments. Bre popped a few Advils and slept it off easily!! They form fitted a plastic mask to her face and they bolt the mask to the table so the radiation is aimed consistently. The mask left red grooves all over her face, she took it like a champ. Overall a terrible experience, but not as bad as chemotherapy.
Before all that though I found a petting zoo who said they would come over and just let a bunch of farm animals loose in the backyard lol. So we had a baby cow, mini horse, goat, pig, all just wandering around trying to eat her parents trees lol.
Bre loved the mini horse Sea World rescued! She always talked about mini horses so it had to happen, the cow was for me.
She was inside all tired and angry so I had her sister drag her outside and she finally smiled and hugged all these animals. Definitely the hygienic atmosphere you want for a cancer patient.

My hair started falling out two days ago. And by falling out I mean I could pull handfuls out by running my hands trough my hair. So rather than freaking out everytime that happened I cut it all off. Actually Ship cut it all off and I love him for it.
It felt good, finally something in my cancer journey I could dictate. I could choose how it went, and it went on my own terms.

Systemic chemotherapy Is the junk you see in the movies, the vomiting, the hair loss, fingernails falling off, and brain fog. Toxic chemicals that attack any rapidly growing cells, not specifically cancer cells, are pumped into your body, putting you in a constant state of repair. Thankfully, they have a ton of medications and our care team was on top of things with keeping her comfortable. #mercynurses She actually only threw up one time ever in 30+ chemo infusions! Like a boss.

Bre kept her hair for exactly 14 days after starting chemo. Then we had a shaving party where I gave her ponytails, cut them off with scissors, and then completely shaved off my girlfriends beautiful red hair.
We did glamour shots before and after and strangely enough she was more confidant afterwards. It was something she did, not something that happened to her and that made all the difference.
