[teacher tip: it might help to let the kiddos move one foot forward from table-top and have them reach straight up without the backward fold if balance is a struggle] 🦋

Also, if your child is non verbal, it may help to do this pose next to them and let them explore trying it out, and remember if they aren’t interested, that’s just fine too! #gentle #kindness

  • “Blessed are the flexible for they shall never be bent out of shape” 

A common misconception is that you need to be flexible to practice yoga. Truth is you need yoga to become flexible. Natural flexibility doesn’t guarantee the practice will be any easier. Its all about your desire to do the poses, ability to breath and move simultaneously all the while quieting the mindğŸŒž. 

Here’s a beginner pose, crescent lunge or Anjaneyasana in Sanskrit. It’s one of my favorites as it awakens the sacral chakra which can inspire creativity and confidence🧘🏽‍♀️ and the heart chakra which inspires kindness and compassion. Start with your hands on your front knee to gain balance.

  • Day 7 of the July 2020 Yoga Challenge is the Low Lunge Pose (Anjaneyasana).

Step-by-Step
1. Start in downward facing dog and, as you exhale, step your right foot forward between your hands.
2. Lower your left knee to the floor and place the top of the left foot on the floor.
3. Inhale, lift your torso up and sweep your arms out to the sides and overhead.
4. Stay in low lunge pose for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
5. Exhale, place your hands on the floor, lift your left knee up, step back and return to downward facing dog pose.
6. Repeat with the opposite leg.

Benefits
1. The low lunge pose stretches the hamstrings, quads, groin and glutes, and strengthens the knees.
2. This pose also helps to improve balance and concentration, and builds mental focus.

Contraindications
1. Neck, knee, hip or back injury.

Sometimes known as ‘young goddess warrior’ the pose takes its name from the Hindu war god Skanda.

Hip opening, heart warming and generally a nice deep stretch for the hamstrings! ❤️ I often use skandasana in my class sequencing, transitioning from the front to the back of the mat.

拜日式嘅練習需要配合吸氣一個體式,呼氣一個體式,配合一呼一吸令動作更流暢。

我以前工作太忙,轉上private,因住太遠,選擇一次上兩個鐘,老師專注力一定係我身上,當我筋太硬,太緊,老師會嚟拉我。
我本身好忍得痛,但拉筋嘅痛,真係頂唔住,有時會痛到閉氣,老師一定提醒我要呼吸。

當我見到依家我嘅學生,佢地都會大叫,又會尖叫,不停叫痛。當我提醒佢地專注係呼吸嘅時候,大部分都會用鼻吸,但用口呼,又或者呼吸好急速,換氣過度,所以我想同大家分享呼吸法嘅重要性。
尤其當我地需要停留嘅體位法,half split, split,lizard pose,pigeon pose, double pigeon pose,forward bend,我基本上都會教以上嘅體式。
吸氣幫助我地擴張胸腔,拉長脊椎,呼氣將氣排出,放鬆緊張嘅肌肉,先可以幫助慢慢拉鬆。

我地做體位法會避免使用腹式呼吸法,因為脊椎會欠缺保護。

1)Ujjayi Pranayama 
擴張肺部呼吸法
*注意⚠️吸氣、呼氣避免腹部脹氣,保持腹部嘅控制*
先以舒適坐姿,挺直背脊,膊頭放鬆,手伸直,手背放大脾上面。
用鼻孔緩慢深長吸氣,氣會充盈肺部,吸氣之後會有1-2秒停息。
緩慢深長地呼氣,直到肺部空氣完全排出,保持1秒停息,之後再吸氣、呼氣
重複5-10分鐘,任何時候都可以練習。

Ujjayi Pranayama 好處可以令氣充盈肺部、清痰、產生持久力、舒緩神經,並強化整個系統。
高血壓、冠心病可以練習無停息嘅Ujjayi Pranayama ,瞓低練習嘅效果會更好。

2)Nadi Sodhana pranayama 
經絡呼吸法(交替鼻孔呼吸法)

右手姆指按壓住右邊鼻孔,無名指按壓住左邊鼻孔,食指同中指可輕微屈曲或放眉心。

  • 我想分享一下呼吸法對我地瑜珈練習嘅好處😊

    拜日式嘅練習需要配合吸氣一個體式,呼氣一個體式,配合一呼一吸令動作更流暢。

    我以前工作太忙,轉上private,因住太遠,選擇一次上兩個鐘,老師專注力一定係我身上,當我筋太硬,太緊,老師會嚟拉我。
    我本身好忍得痛,但拉筋嘅痛,真係頂唔住,有時會痛到閉氣,老師一定提醒我要呼吸。

    當我見到依家我嘅學生,佢地都會大叫,又會尖叫,不停叫痛。當我提醒佢地專注係呼吸嘅時候,大部分都會用鼻吸,但用口呼,又或者呼吸好急速,換氣過度,所以我想同大家分享呼吸法嘅重要性。
    尤其當我地需要停留嘅體位法,half split, split,lizard pose,pigeon pose, double pigeon pose,forward bend,我基本上都會教以上嘅體式。
    吸氣幫助我地擴張胸腔,拉長脊椎,呼氣將氣排出,放鬆緊張嘅肌肉,先可以幫助慢慢拉鬆。

    我地做體位法會避免使用腹式呼吸法,因為脊椎會欠缺保護。

    1)Ujjayi Pranayama
    擴張肺部呼吸法
    *注意⚠️吸氣、呼氣避免腹部脹氣,保持腹部嘅控制*
    先以舒適坐姿,挺直背脊,膊頭放鬆,手伸直,手背放大脾上面。
    用鼻孔緩慢深長吸氣,氣會充盈肺部,吸氣之後會有1-2秒停息。
    緩慢深長地呼氣,直到肺部空氣完全排出,保持1秒停息,之後再吸氣、呼氣
    重複5-10分鐘,任何時候都可以練習。

    Ujjayi Pranayama 好處可以令氣充盈肺部、清痰、產生持久力、舒緩神經,並強化整個系統。
    高血壓、冠心病可以練習無停息嘅Ujjayi Pranayama ,瞓低練習嘅效果會更好。

    2)Nadi Sodhana pranayama
    經絡呼吸法(交替鼻孔呼吸法)

    右手姆指按壓住右邊鼻孔,無名指按壓住左邊鼻孔,食指同中指可輕微屈曲或放眉心。

Yoga is a mind-body practice which apart of physical movement, incorporates all of previous posted stress-reducing techniques:
-controlled breathing,
-meditation,
-body awareness (like in body scan). 

💚Physical Yoga poses are not designed only to build the strength and flexibility, but as well to release any tensions and bad emotions, which are accumulating in the body. Connections between body and emotions is such a wide topic that may be material for the whole series of posts 😉

💚Breathing control while practicing yoga is important part. In Ashtanga and modern Vinyasa - inhales and exhales are connected with each movement, what makes the breathing deeper and activate rest & digest mode (shallow inhalation is connected with stress). Breath and movement control however may come with time, as for yoga newbies may be overwhelming to concentrate on breath and movement at the same time. Like for fresh drivers is difficult to control the car 😉

💚Physical yoga poses often requires such a concentration that all the other thoughts and worries are put to the aside, giving the mind a break and setting it in the meditation state. Especially while practicing mindfully, concentrating on the sensation in the body. 

To sum it up - yoga release stress and brings us to the present moment.
What means we are in our body and feel its aliveness, rather to worry about the future or dwell on the past experiences.

When life is a little hectic, it’s easy to get frustrated. Your routines aren’t the same, you’re probably busier than usual and finding little time to be present. .

During these periods of time practice compassion for yourself. Life comes in waves sometimes you’ll be on top of everything, other times you’ll be struggling to keep up. Show compassion for yourself in times of struggle and know that everything is temporary. .
.
Don’t criticize yourself for what you’re not doing. Praise yourself for all that you are doing, know that you’ll be back into a normal flow soon. When you’re getting antsy take a moment to stop and breathe, and/or meditate .
.
This for me always keeps me feeling grounded even if it’s only for 10 minutes. I have such an appreciation for what movement does for my vitality when I am unable to do much of it. 
Be compassionate to yourself through changing circumstances, you are in this life together physical body and soul appreciate both equally. .

I enjoy this pose because I feel more grounded than when in crescent lunge, yet I am still able to work on balance. It’s always a good chest opener and often comes at a time in my flow when I’m about to “quit” and go into child’s pose. This is another empowering pose for me.
