  • The Scent Keeper by Erica Bauermeister 4.5/5 — Synopsis: “Emmeline lives an enchanted childhood on a remote island with her father, who teaches her about the natural world through her senses. What he won’t explain are the mysterious scents stored in the drawers that line the walls of their cabin, or the origin of the machine that creates them. As Emmeline grows, however, so too does her curiosity, until one day the unforeseen happens, and Emmeline is vaulted out into the real world—a place of love, betrayal ambition and revenge. To understand her past, Emmeline must unlock the clues to her identity, a quest that challenges the limits of her heart and imagination. — I loved that the setting in this book was based off of Broughton Archipelago in British Columbia (when the characters went to the “city” I pictured it as Vancouver which made reading this book a very happy experience since I LOVE Vancouver). I felt that Emmeline’s guilt and shame around events in her childhood and the betrayal she felt later on were properly explored. If I hadn’t JUST read Where the Crawdads Sing this probs would have been a 5/5 but since Emmeline and Kya’s circumstances are fairly similar making me feel like I had recently read this book. The writing is so lyrical and the sense of place so strong this was an easy love for me! Also Reese Witherspoon liked my comment on this book which is pretty kewl. — • #bookstagram #books #books📚 #booklover #bookaddict #bookaholic #bookblog #bookphotography #bookish #bookishlove #bookworm #booknerd #bibliophile #booksofinstagtam #read #reader #reading #readingofinstagram #bookishcanadians #bookislife #reesewitherspoonbookclub #readwithreese #thescentkeeper #ericabauermeister
