Rosé the Brooklyn way! 🧨
On this day 13 years ago I left everyone and everything I knew behind to fulfill my dream of living in the Big Apple. I was 18 and had no idea how I would make it but I was determined. My life here has anything but ordinary - full of ups and downs, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Through the struggles and heartache I learned resilience and through the magical moments I’ve learned how incredible life can be. Always dream big and stick to your guns. Happy Anniversary Nueva York . I love you! 💃🏻🗽 #lucky13 #iloveny

A little about me...
I started making art work as a way to fill my apartment with original paintings. I used Matisse and Picasso as my first inspiration and made a lot of copies of their work.
I took a short break from painting and pursued pottery. (I wasn’t that good at pottery)
During quarantine I came back to artwork and started to experiment with abstract color and form. At first things came out as awkward blobs and blocks. After many failed attempts something clicked and I started producing work that I really liked. I’m constantly exploring colors, creating movement and different textures.
I do art as a piece of my time, clearing my head. It’s not my full time occupation (but maybe one day) and I’m not formally trained, but my spirit is calling towards making beautiful peaceful things so here it is. ❤️
I’m so in love with this shooting with @rita_photography_nyc 🖤
what are you up to this weekend? 🌙🌇✨
sorry 4 your loss 🖤

Hats off to @katiesturino and @stitchfix for making my new favorite grandpa shirt. It's 🍌 🍌 🍌 s!!!!
Also if you were curious about the crazy 🌿🌱 sunglasses, I bought them three years ago after Katie and I met for the first time! They’re dolce & gabbana; bought on eBay. We were seated next to each other at a luncheon and bonded over our mutual love of plant motifs. I proceeded to take her sunglasses and try to steal her dog. 😬These were the first thing I copied her on, and they certainly weren’t the last!

Covid-19 is still here and doing very well y’all. I’ve been quarantining ALONE for a good while and the only way I can join others in the fight for justice through protests and demonstrations is by wearing a MASK. It’s a selfless act and sure way to be thoughtful and mindful of others. Show some consideration so we can save lives.
I challenge, @katcunning @chalialatour @laurenebanks @rosannyzayas @marchantdavis @sydney_lemmon @julianelijahmartinez @anniehagg @robynhoodmusic to join me and spread the word by posting yourself, masked.
After five weeks of cutting, piecing, planning, quilting.... not to mention the week in February where I dyed most of the solid colors.... she’s finished! This quilted coat was a labor of love & I look forward to making another one. 🏁.
The base pattern is a lengthened @grainlinestudio #tamarackjacket and I grafted on a collar from my favorite Japanese sewing book. (Details in my story highlights.) The printed fabrics are mostly scraps from clothes I’ve sewn myself over the last 3 years, plus solid colored linens I dyed. For batting I used Quilter’s Dream “select” cotton batting left over from my quilted Wiksten Haori. Everything is from stash, which is deeply satisfying! 🐾.
I will be posting more about this jacket because there are details I want to share: interior pockets, Hong Kong finished seams, nested seams in the patchwork to help everything lay flat, and I’m really pleased with the collar. I’ll write a blog post, too. It’s too hot to wear now, so I’ll hang her on the outside of my closet to admire until fall. 🤍.

What ideology do you have? How about the overarching ideology of your school or network? Take the time to reflect on how these ideologies could influence the way you teach. We have all summer to reflect and reframe our minds, let’s start the work now!
#DovePartner @Dove has been working to tackle racial inequities as a co-founder of the #CROWNCoalition to end hair discrimination. Today we’re celebrating #CROWNDay, the one-year anniversary of the signing of the CROWN Act.
It’s so imperative that we #PassTheCrown by sharing stories that shatter beauty stereotypes and showcase the beauty of natural hair. I can’t help but feel annoyed that we still need legislation in order for Black people to be their most unapologetic selves without being discriminated against.
Do it for the culture! Normalize natural hair in all of its glory and stages. From locs and protective styles to curls, coils, & fros at every length. Understand that curl typing charts can be divisive and promote a hierarchy and a standard of beauty amongst the natural hair community that’s harmful and erases the very textures that put natural hair on the map. The future generation is looking at you, at us. That’s who I do it for, that’s why I #PassTheCrown. So my 2 year old niece can grow up loving and being proud of her hair. In a society where she is not discriminated against for the way God made her. Together we can create a more just and beautiful world for the next generation. Who do you Pass the Crown for?

So, @zipcar ruined our weekend.
We rented a car for the weekend to head to the country and found out that the car wasn't at the designated area. We called and called and after almost an hour of being on hold, someone picked up and said that they were sorry that the confirmed car isn't available now.
They assigned us a new car, parked at the other side of Brooklyn (Clinton Hill) and said that it's ready to go if we can get there. So, we got on a cab and two minutes before we arrived, we got an email saying that our reservation was cancelled. The car wasn't there.
We had Miso with us. It's difficult to get an Uber that allow dogs. And it's difficult for me to get a non working weekend. I worked four weekends straight and really looking forward for this time off. What the f*ck, @zipcar?.

Don't underestimate kindness for weakness. In a world full of madness, it's a compliment to be an angel.

The most disrespected person in America is the black woman. The most unprotected person in America is the black woman. The most neglected person in America is the black woman.
Today is National #CrownDay, a celebration of Black Hair Independence. The CROWN Act (Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair) was signed into law a year ago today in California. The law makes it illegal to discriminate against a person in the workplace and schools because of their natural hair and protective styles, which has been a constant source of discrimination for black women, along with black men and children.
The law has since been passed in 6 additional states- New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Washington, Colorado & Maryland. This is not enough. Hair Discrimination should be illegal at the federal level. You can #PassTheCROWN by not only repping your hairstyle of choice, but by signing the petition to urge legislators to vote YES on The CROWN Act.
While you’re at it, sign the petition to urge legislators to arrest the cops that murdered Breonna Taylor. It’s been almost three months and they’re still walking around free. Justice must be served! #JusticeforBreonnaTaylor
Both petitions are linked in my stories!
I’ve felt the government should have cancelled rent and mortgages as many of our livelihoods are affected by Covid but they don’t want to do right by us. @bedstuytenants are organizing this SUNDAY at Maria Hernandez giving out PPE but most importantly rallying in support of tenants who can’t pay their rent right now. Come out, wear a mask and spread love, invite your neighbors and tell your electeds to #CancelRent swipe to see my song!
